I love watching your videos. They are so informative and detailed. I notice you work with leather and sometimes vinyl and wondered which was easier to work with.
Definitely, to work with vinyl is much easier. As the material is soft the sewing machine needles pass through with no much effort. To assemble all the pieces I have used a 110=18 needle size for this project. To get longer stitches (8 mm) for the pleats I used my Durkopp&Adler 767 with a 180=24 needle size. The polyester thread for the lines was 138 size.

@@carolprice5590 You are right, there are thin (no more than 1 mm thick) upholstery leathers that look like fabric, very soft an pliable, and easy to sew. Others are stiff and too thick (more than 1 mm up to 1.4 mm)

It’s a fast machine for a beginner like myself. I want to post some pictures of what I have learned. How do I do that? Thanks again
Servo motors are the best to keep control of speed. I will purchase one at any moment. If you want to reduce the speed of your machine the most important is the elongation of the motor lever. Hi, thanks for the information, great video as always i started in the auto upholstery industry 3 yrs ago now and always find your vides interestingand informative... what grade and type of foam do you use pls in this video. In the UK the auto foam is very hit and miss and can never source a constant supply of dense foam. I've started to use 39h blue foam and back it myself for center sections but your white foam looks more denser and when sewing patterns looks more prouder. Thanks for any advice
I used a 1/2" of an inch foam. Medium density. My advice is to find a place where different grades of foam density are sold. For instance for this project I had to use a high resilience foam. It means it behaves as a spring recuperating its shape instantly. This foam is used for tennis shoes and some boxing gloves. th-cam.com/video/HItudJQjCCU/w-d-xo.html
There is no manuel on how to do upholstery. You just have to do it and learn the tricks of the trade. Ive had my shop for 25 years and make a great living for me and my family. Too bad no young kids want to learn the trade. Its a dying art,hate to say. Good job here brother.
Have to agree with you there , I’ve been doing this trade for about the same amount of time , it definitely is a dying art form here in New Zealand as well .

Those are flexible steel wires that help giving shape and hold of cover to the foam base.
