    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    This video demonstrates what it was done on 'stationery cardboard' can also be done on vinyl material. Summarizing I would say that a premade mold/template plays an important role to perform an upholstery design. A mold give us the 'real measures' and what we have to do is just transfer it to the right material not forgetting to add the required 'selvage' or 'seam allowance'. In case of seats it could be 1 cm or 1/2" of an inch as standard measures.
    As you can see in the video I show three well known junctions for lateral panels that surround the main flat arch panel. The most common way of attaching the main panel to the other parts is by using a 'piping' all around the arch because it adds more consistency to our pieces.
    Notice I have used thin foams (3 to 4 mm thick) for the lateral panels. If we would decide to use a thicker foam (1 cm, 1/2", 3 cm, etc.) then things turn out different because of the thickness of foam material. The material on top( vinyl, fabric, leather, etc.) would 'contract' (figurative) a few milimeters back, more in central part than ends of the pieces.
    I will explain it in a next video.
    I hope you find this information useful!

    Relieving the corners makes it come out great. I use the staple method too and it’s great for alignment. I can tell you have invested a lot of time into your craft. Great Job!!

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I have realized the use of staples helps to make the sewing process easier. These should be put in the 'points of reference/V notches'. This is the method tailors use before doing the final sewing. Of course, not with staples but with handsewing with very thin thread. As in upholstery the materials are thicker, it is very difficult to baste with thread.

    Otro vídeo súper interesante y con muy buenos consejos! Los asientos de mi carro tienen el respaldo exactamente igual que uno de los ejemplos que usted ha hecho, y la siguiente vez que me toque hacer unos similares, seguro que será más fácil gracias al trabajo que usted ha desarrollado en el vídeo. Muchas gracias de nuevo por el tiempo que dedica para mostrarnos todas estas técnicas de tapicería! :-)

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Efectivamente, estos arcos se utilizaron mucho en ciertos modelos antigüos de los sesentas y setentas. Casi siempre vamos a encontrar un 'panel arco en el centro', el cual va 'acolchonado' con 'gajos' horizontales of verticales y las piezas laterales lisas que pueden ir unidas en las esquinas, a los costados o en el centro superior. Estas figuras arco/s pueden ir en 2D completamente planas en un solo nivel.
      El maestro Mario en uno de sus videos ejecuta magistralmente uno de estos arcos, simplemente guiándose por las 'marcas V' que los tapiceros usamos para coser. La experiencia y la práctica hacen lograr esta técnica.
      La pieza de arco central puede ir también en bajo relieve y las piezas laterales con cierto realce o alto relieve. En este caso encontraremos que estos asientos y espaldares tienen solamente las uniones en las esquinas. En el siguiente video entenderemos estos modelos de 3D que estuvieron de moda en los Mustang y otros carros de aquellos años.
      Le agradezco una vez más por apreciar estos videos!
      No se olvide de publicar su video. No se preocupe si no quedó tan perfecto. Los que sabemos de tapicería sabremos apreciar el reto que se trazó y haberlo logrado en su conjunto en un primer trabajo.

    Been working on just my personal car seats. Had to come back for a refresher course. I totally forgot about stapling things together. I was using a 100 fabric clamps lol. I just wish I had a walking foot machine to do them better

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello, Thanks so much for watching the videos!
      In some of my videos I use a 'fabric clamp' to momentarily hold the piece edges while I staple down. But, I never thought these clamps would be useful to also 'baste' the edges to ease sewing process.
      Great idea! I think 'small powerful clamps' would be useful to attach the 'reference marks or V notches'. And everytime we would reach these points they would be easily removed.

    Very good job, sir, I changed the fabrics of my old seats of my BMW 302i E46 (10/2001, but without leather) with a lether of really authentic quality ... The steering wheel then the bellows of hand brake and speed will be done this WE. I think I also make a "tablecloth" picnic with a waterproof bottom in the middle of the crib foam and a velvet coating and probably a plaid for the back seat with the rest of the velvet ...;)
    There is nothing better than making leather self-made items for 3 to 4 times less than if you buy them (well, again you do not have to "count" the hours of work because that would hurt your hands. artwork... ;)
    I'm not at all a PRO in terms of sewing and even less on leather but I took my time (a lot of time but no matter we have 2 cars) and the result is more than super, a PRO n could not have done better ... Well, he would have done it more quickly but time was not a capital emergency ...;)
    In short thank you for your videos it has served me so much, so much so that my wife asks me to do that of his colleague, why not but the bill that I will make him sting his eyes ...)
    So as Hankook would say "Very Good Job Sir, Very Good Job Sir"
    Best Regards,

    I love your videos . I wanted to know. How do you sharpen your scissors? I have several dull pairs.

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It would be better if you remove the 'small bolt' in the center to have the two parts free. I use a 'portable grinder' with a thin cutting disk' to sharpen the scissors. First, with my left hand holding it from the ear part I put the one scissor in an angled position until having the surface to grind flat. Then from the back to the front I slide the disk also in a paralell way. The disk goes angled and it seems I am grinding with its side. I do this two or three times always from the back to the front . To erase some rough from its side I use a thin sandpaper.
      Let's not forget the scissors should be sharpened different than a knife.

    Excelente trabajo y muy didáctico como siempre, felicidades. Una consulta? Hago bolsos y accesorios para ciclista. Con lonas, lonetas y viniles. Reocomiendas adquirir una máquina industrial china. "Futura" nueva, o elegirlas una singer 281 usada? Los materiales que llego a coser son medianos generalmente. Gracias!

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No le podría recomendar una en especial. Las dos marcas son buenas. Si la Singer usada está en buen estado, le conviene porque estamos hablando de una máquina eterna de puro fierro.
      En cuanto a la máquina china Futura. si es de puro fierro, está bien, además estamos hablando de un producto nuevo. Tuve la oportunidad de hablar con un amigo que es mecánico de máquinas y le pregunté con respecto a las máquinas chinas. Me comentó que son de buena calidad.

      Cechaflo Pues una vez hable a casa diaz en la ciudad de México. Y pregunte por la marca futura en específico, que son ellos quienes las distribuyen en México. Y me comentó un asunto, según la fabrica que le armaba a brother dejo de trabajar para ellos y comenzaron a hacer la marca futura. No se si sea verdad. Pero suena algo lógico. Si es así. Debe ser buena marca. Y si. Efectivamente tiene razón. Una nueva creo que es lo mas correcto por cuestion de garantías. Gracias!

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Estimado Tonny, creo que acertó con su decisión. Es mejor comprar algo bueno y nuevo con su garantía. Los de casa Diaz tienen razón. Tengo conocimiento que en la actualidad muchas de las marcas conocidas de máquinas de coser se fabrican en China (Pfaff, Durkopp&Adler, Juki, Consew, etc.. Muchos de nosotros tenemos la idea que todo lo que se hace en China es de poca duración y no sirve. Esto es verdad con ciertos artículos que ellos los fabrican de baja calidad adrede y a un precio barato por intereses comerciales. Pero también es cierto que ellos han desarrollado tecnología para hacer cosas de alta calidad. Esto que comento lo platicaba hace unos meses con unos mecánicos y un distribuidor que opinaron que las máquinas de coser están hechas de buena calidad.

      Most of the times, to learn upholstery is not necessary to talk, just watch and repeat the actions. For instance, if I were watching a person eating with a fork it would not be necessary to say 'at this moment the person is using his hand and eating with a fork'..the actions I am watching are obvious.
      Furthermore, to understand the present video which is not really for beginners, it would be necesary to have some basic ideas about car upholstery.

    • @mrdennisday

      @@Cechaflo My apologies. I thought this video was to show how something is done. Apparently it is not. I understand exactly what is going on because I know how to upholster. If I were to make a video just like this, I would of course explain why you mark the edges of your leather and how, after the seam allowance is taken into account, the pieces come together.
      Instead this is a look-what-I-can-do video and not a how-to video.

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dear Dennis, I understand your point of view, but I could not say it is a look-what-I-can-do video. It contains a little more than that despite of not really being a complete how-to tutorial.
      There is a first basic video that shows something more about these flat archs. Perhaps, a missing explanation is here.

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 'white material' on the back is called 'muslin'. It comes in different densities. It is used as a 'reinforcement and backing' for channel figures on top. There are 'fabric backed foams' especially for that purpose. They come ready to be used as backing material much faster.

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lo primero sería checar la barra que sujeta la aguja(la que baja y sube) no debe tener 'juego'...trate de moverlo a los lados para darse cuenta que está precisa sin movimientos laterales...si se mueve mucho, significa que el 'buje de bronce' por la que se desliza está gastado. Fíjese bien que de todas las puntadas desde la mas chica a la mas grande(con el regulador de palanca de puntada). Fijarse que tenga la palanca de reversa en su lugar...haga una prueba que cosa tanto para adelante como para atrás.
      El motor debe escucharse 'silencioso y parejo'. Ver si la pintura es original.
      Supongo que la máquina es como la de este video: th-cam.com/video/cWPho0qMRwI/w-d-xo.html
      Lo que si puedo afirmar que la marca Singer es muy reconocida en muchas partes y las máquinas son eternas.

    Regarding the version with cording... I dont see where you attach the cording. I'm doing a piece that is nearly identical to this and I get quite a bit of bulge at the top of the arch where the parts are joined with cord. The bulge occurs in the outside part not the channeling. May I ask which part you attached the cording to prior to assembly?
