  • My 2,104th kite video. This was filmed on Sunday April 28. Peter's big spinning kite was the star, but we had some more good kites as well. After that day, we've had six no-fly days because of the weather, but we're hoping for better tomorrow (Sunday May 5).
Anyone wanting to check out all my "How to..." videos on various aspects of kite-flying can now find them all easily on my Playlist at / jimskitesnz .

“On another low-wind day”….. might have started that way… but with everything you 3 had up - looked like a great day! Thanks!

Yes, the breeze did pick up as the day went on. We often start with no wind in the morning, and then a little breeze by midday, sometimes more later, but it's all very unsettled at this time of year.

Thanks, Craig. All of Peter's kites are good, but the big spinner is extra special.

Those roks are quite small, but flown together they always look great. Peter has a lot of talent!

Nice video Jim. Beautiful day. Peter made the hubs also. Anything he can't do! Beautiful kite as well. Thanks Jim!

Peter's certainly a very talented guy, Dewey, and I'm glad you enjoyed the video.

Looks like a nice day. Peter and Colin are skilled kite makers. I could live without the 6' spider kite 😨

I don't like spiders, Sheryl, and wasn't sure about buying that kite, but I've had it a long time now and don't find it scary at all!

Thanks, Ron. Yes spinning kites are very interesting, and the one that Peter made is superb.

That's a wonderful video. The kites from Peter and Colin's are great selfmade work. Nice sharing with Rokkaku. 😊

Yes, Peter and Colin are excellent kite-builders, although I think Colin has retired from it now. I'm happy that you enjoyed the video.

Another great video Jim. There was a spin box at this years Seward Kite Festival and it caught the eye of the entire crew of Alaskiters since it is such a rare kite.

Thanks, Tim. Peter's big spinner is the best I've seen. I have a similar-sized commercially-made one that is not as good but cost a lot more!

Great video. I really like that lizard rokkaku. It appears to be an aboriginal design which would make it a bona fide Down Under kite. Best wishes for good weather.

Thank you. The Lizard Rok is actually a cheap kite from China, so I don't know where they got the idea from, and it's probably just a random lizard rather than being an Aboriginal design. It's a nice little kite, though.

As always, an excellent choice of kites and I love the combination with jazz. I received that same spider rokkaku last week and I have to return it, with a dispute, because I ordered it in 1.75m and I received it in 1m. I hope I don't have problems. Thanks, Jim.

That's poor service from the kite-seller, Fernando, and I hope you get it sorted out satisfactorily. I didn't know that there was a smaller version. I bought mine 9 or 10 years ago.

The triple roks are fantastic. Super stable.
I have a Marconi and as soon as I saw yours misbehavin' I just knew you'd fit a 'fuzzy tail'. 😊
Colin's Bat is excellent; needs a black bridle line to create the best effect ( in my humble opinion).
I have a couple of rotating kites ( a Clarkes Revolver and a revolver design I drew but Tim Benson made for me with a long windsock tail that revolves the opposite way to the kite). That slow spin of Peter's homebrew is brilliant.
His Tandem Delta Conye has been a firm favourite with me for a while so I am having Paul Morgan make me one in all black ripstop, 2m span with two rear vertical fins to a) stabilise it, b) look more aircraft like, and c) be fairly unique, and d) not copy Peter ( ok, a bit) !!!!!
    Super video Jim !!!

I'm sure Peter wouldn't mind if your kite was a copy of his, but it sounds as if you've put your own stamp on it anyway. I hope you'll be uploading some videos of the new acquisitions (and existing kites) during the coming months. The LL Roks are excellent and were not too expensive despite being hand made. Sadly, the person responsible for sewing them died, and no more have been made in recent years. They are amazingly light and just right for flying on some of our very-light-wind days.
