  • My 2,108th kite video. I don't often buy new items these days, but when I saw this spinner at only about US$30, including postage, I couldn't resist it. And it's a dual-purpose item, too, so even better value.
    Anyone wanting to check out all my "How to..." videos on various aspects of kite-flying can now find them all easily on my Playlist at / jimskitesnz .

    Your video demonstrates that multiples of an item really elevate ( no pun ingended) the visual display from an assortment to a theme. The challenge always is to be able to fund it. Too, the spinsock should be quite servicable given enough wind. I am surprised it works as well as it does without having much taper. Thanks, Jim.

      I've always liked threes of things, Glenn. As you know, I fly all my flowtails, and some other kites, three on a line, and I find the line laundry items look best (to my eyes at least) when flown in threes.

    That large spinner looked as if it should 'sink' the double delta conye, yet they were a perfect combination. Superb.
    I have had that non-inflating tail syndrome on a Hoffman large Canard.
    You are not alone Peter !!!!!

    • @JimNicholls

      The large diameter of the spinner compared to its length seems to mean a lot less drag, and I was pleasantly surprised at how easily the DDC lifted it. I don't usually use the tail on my Canard delta, but that's mostly because the fabric it's made from is a total sand trap. I find it almost impossible to launch without taking a few kilograms of the beach into the air with it, which does not produce a satisfactory result.
      Incidentally, I watched a TH-cam video yesterday about the New Forest, which reminded me of when a young lady and I rode my Lambretta from Worthing to the forest in 1962 and spent a few days touring around the area. How many people would do that 62 years later, I wonder? Do you do long trips on your scooters? Not the easiest way to get around, but fun.

    Great show Jim. The spinner looked awesome on the Conyne. Ron

      I think, Ron, that the spinner might get used as a tail again. I have at least one more kite that I'm sure it will suit very well.

      Glad you enjoyed it, Dewey. Our weather has turned grey and wet, but I do have another video or two to upload, and I hope I'll get a chance to fly again before too long.

    I have a few kites I like to fly at the beach also, and I have tried to hang spinners, etc from the line, but kite-flying is filled with subtlety. In other words, getting those big kites up and down in a strong breeze can be a finger-cutting challenge. And when I try to fly more than one, they inevitably get tangled. I love your videos. Thanks for posting.

      I'm glad you enjoy the videos. I made one about how to attach items to the line: th-cam.com/video/KV9ud-MfsX0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=9PalQIhhpvIEyPOI and others with advice on various aspects of flying, all of which are in my playlist: th-cam.com/users/JimsKitesNZplaylists . I hope you have lots of fun with your kites.

    I do like your the new spiky spinner. Was surprised how well the Mayan Conyne flew with the spinner. I wondered if it would drag it down. It's a strong flier.
    Nice to still see the blue sky but it must be getting a bit colder.

    • @JimNicholls
      @JimNicholls  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nothing but grey skies for the last few days, Carl, and more to come I think. That new spinner has very little drag because of its shape, so no problem for the DDC to lift it.

    Would a leader between the kite and the tail help?... I have a tube tail that only half inflates it's 75' length...it was folded for a very long time in storage apparerntly...

    • @JimNicholls
      @JimNicholls  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's possible that it might help, but I'm sure Peter will figure out some way of improving it. He's good at that!

      @@JimNicholls thanks Jim...it'll be interesting how Peter solves this...I'd be interested in seeing his solution...my idea is to sew a bigger 'scoop' on to the beginning of the tail..using the bag the tail came in since it's the same type of fabric(acetate)..

    • @JimNicholls
      @JimNicholls  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Good luck with that, Cynti. I hope the "scoop" stays open and allows all the air in. I'm not a great user of tube tails, although I have quite a few and should get them all in action again.

    how many kites do you have? This is what I wanted to ask for a long time😁😁😁

    • @JimNicholls
      @JimNicholls  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have no idea. I've never counted them, and my usual answer to that question is "Far too many!" But really you can never have too many kites.

      @@JimNicholls😁😁😁😁...All my kites are made by myself, I also never keep them. Every time I get bored with the old kite I always throw it away or burn it, then I make a new one

      @@JimNicholls you seem to get that question quite often, and I like your answer. I thought my 'little collection' of around 60 kites was a lot. NO! I recently met a guy in Grand Haven, MI who invited me to his RV which was filled with around 21,000$ worth of kites, etc. WOW. Yes, you can never have too many!
