    Hi Sally beautiful dresses I’m always surprised how much nicer they look in real life rather than on the pattern envelopes I love them all .x

    I loved all of your dresses.The fabric you choose to go with your patterns are always gorgeous.I also like the fact you show pictures of yourself in the dresses your talking about. When I first started sewing,in the 70's,I had a simple pattern that I hacked into lots of different designs.It is a really good idea to look at the pattern your deciding to make to see how it can be hacked.A lot of today's patterns are very similar and as indie patterns are expensive it is a good idea to look at the big fours ,especially the basic design drawings rather than the model.

    I loved seeing all your versions of your favourite patterns Sally! I agree that it's good to take patterns that you love and fiddle with them to create new designs that you suit and like wearing, also adjusting them to the season! My favourite pattern probably of all time is the Endless Summer Tunic. For some crazy reason this pattern always comes up looking amazing. As you are a keen fan of Megan Nielsen patterns, I am a fan of the Sewing Workshop patterns. I adore all Linda Lee's work. I am considering buying myself a treat of her Sew Confident program for 2024. I like many other designers as well such as Liesl and Co, Cashmerette, Sew Liberated and Sew House 7.

    All your garments are so pretty! You are so smart to make several versions of one pattern - it gives you a closet of dresses while saving money on patterns. Thank you!

    Lovely video as always Sally. Thank-you for sharing your expertise. I have my saltwater slip on holiday with me just now. As you’ve described, it is such a versatile garment to wear as is or layer with tanks and t-shirts. Also getting a lot of wear from my Sauvie sundress from Sewhouse Seven. I love the Nicks dress and want to make it up in a more casual looking fabric. My already made version is a bit dressy for everyday wear. Love being able to do this kind of thing as a sewist. 😀

      @SecretLifeOfASeamstress  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s amazing how you can dress a pattern up or down depending on the fabric you use isn’t it! The saltwater must be great as a holiday dress I’m excited to make more this year. Thank you so much for watching 😊 xx

    Thanks for sharing! Love your suggestions of hacking and doing different combinations av patterns, that is the way to go I think and it’s much more frugal to try to use what you’ve got already. My favourite dress and tunic pattern is Esme from the book ”Every Day Style” by Lotta Jansdotter. It’s a shift style similar to the ”Ultimate shiftdress” from SOI, but without any fastenings, you just pull it over your head. I have made many versions of it, both dress and tunic length and also as a blouse with buttons down the front. And I’ve added a frill down the bottom on one version. It’s a perfect pattern for a patchwork style or to show off a beautiful fabric. My daughter is getting married this summer and guess what 😂 I will use that pattern again for my dress! I have bought a gorgeous viscose for it and maybe I will add a frill att the bottom AND to the sleeves.

    Hi Sally! Great wrap of your latest favorite dresses. I'm in the process of making a Deer & Doe Magnolia, which is the first dress I've made. I've made it out of an Art Gallery viscose that feels so lovely on. I have wondered if it would be easier to sew live eels together. The bust needs to be tweaked, because, despite making a toile, it's too big. The Tilda is next in an Artelie June fabric. I'm following your lead in making my garments in the most beautiful fabrics I can afford. It makes such a difference. I'm heading to your Instagram page, because I'm planning on copying your Rita/Safia (I think) jumpsuit combo for a smart, casual Summer outfit. I'm really impressed with how you modify patterns. You didn't ask, but black is a bit too harsh a color for your beautiful coloring IMHO. Have you considered a navy or warm dark brown dress? Or bottle green?

    • @SecretLifeOfASeamstress
      @SecretLifeOfASeamstress  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ooh I've not tried the Magnolia yet but it looks so lovely I hope you manage to get it right for you it's a pain when dresses fit differently in different fabrics isn't it... My hack was a Lyra/Safiya but I think it would work well with the Rita too if you already have that pattern. I hear you with the black and actually I rarely wear back, I am enjoying bottle green at the moment so perhaps that would be a better choice. Thank you for the suggestion xx

    I hope this question doesn’t put you on the spot. Which pattern would you suggest for a beginner, the Sudley or Tilly’s Indigo?

    • @SecretLifeOfASeamstress
      @SecretLifeOfASeamstress  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ooooh!! They really are so similar actually but I think because the Indigo has a faced finished rather than the bias binding or lining it might be a little easier to construct :) x
