The last knitted vest pattern you showed can probably be altered to have thicker straps by either stopping the decreases early (the same angle continuing straight up with a wider strap) or switching some decrease rows for non-decreasing rows (the angle would be steeper and the straps wider). Usually pattern designers can give advice on those types of alterations. I really love the picot edge detail at the bottom; it’s very cute!
Hello. I really liked your perspective on using up your existing fabrics, then “rewarding” yourself with new purchases… wise. I am not sure I will describe well what I am thinking for the semi-sheer pink fabric, but I will try. I imagine a shrug-like, wrap style cover-up top that has wide long sleeves and ties at the waist that you could layer over a cami top or wear over a dress. I see it being floaty and feminine. Hope that sparks an idea. Best wishes.
Looking forward to seeing these projects come to life! As for the knitted top: maybe you like the petal drop camisole by Florence Miller checks all the boxes you have in mind? The lace is quite beginner friendly - it was her intention (she even has a full video on her channel) 🙂
Oh Sally, so many lovely plans for these beautiful fabrics you have!! I honestly think it’s better to have a small and well curated stash of fabric than overwhelmingly much (no matter if you have the storage for it or not). And it’s good to use it up before buying new fabric because otherwise you can easily fall out of love or forget about it and it’s just not working. I definitely want to sew my way through my stash (which is too big!!!) now, deciding which fabrics are worth it and which ones might have to go. I want to declutter! It’s just too much and it overwhelmes me (and attracts moths 😭). I wish I had more time at the moment to actually do it, I miss sewing so much!!! Sorry for the ramble!! Please keep your fingers crossed for me for I can start sewing again 💕💕💕
Looking forward to seeing your warm weather makes. For a short, cropped jacket, I really like the Closet Core Siena Maker’s Jacket. It has more of a slight swing silhouette rather than the boxier silhouette of then style Arc pattern you’re considering. Plus it has lots of lovely, unusual details such as the back button placket. It is a more involved make worthy of pulling out all your Houdini mad seam finishing skills. Enjoy your Spring sewing.
Hi Sally. I have been watching your channel for close to a year now and always love hearing you chat about things and seeing what you've made. I have accumulated quite a stash of fabric and am always resisting the urge to buy more, especially when I see fabric I absolutely love and it happens to be on sale. But as you suggest, I am going to try and get through what I've already got first. I have been very inspired by seeing your makes and have made several Jarrah sweater/jumpers after being impressed by yours. Interestingly, you've mentioned a number of Style Arc patterns in today's session and I am currently working on their Italia shirt dress in a nice drapey denim. I'm glad I didn't attempt this one a year ago, as their instructions are very sparse, though I love the style. I'm looking forward to seeing your new makes for this spring/summer! Take care :)))
Thank you so much for watching I’m glad to have inspired you in some way 😊 Yes, SA instructions can be a bit hit or miss can’t they I hope the ones I’ve chosen will be good ones haha x
If you need a lined tank pattern the Victory by Chalk and Notch is great. I pattern tested this one and it has lovely finishing and details. Love your videos - thank you 💕🇨🇦
Yes I totally agree! I get so overwhelmed by too much fabric. I’m also spending the summer sewing stash fabrics and sewing patterns. Lovely video! Can’t wait to see the makes ❤
I like your patterns picks for summer, lots of inspiration, I'm trying to work with the patterns I have but there are so many new 'shiny' patterns. For the knitted vest, West yorkshire Spinners have some nice summer patterns for their Elements DK, which is viscose yarn. I bought a pattern book called 'Timeless Summer' for the Elements yarn last year (in John Lewis), I made a sleeveless vest and a short sleeved knitted T with lace yoke, both were successful, it has 3 vest tops in it including a stripped one. The yarn was lovely to work with and is a reasonable price.
Oh thank you for that I’ve never heard of that yarn so I’ll have a look. I love looking in John Lewis for pattern books you can get some bargains can’t you x
Good morning, I immediately thought the Helen's Closet Ashton Top could work for your linen top and trousers set. Sewing Club Podcast are reviewing it next so they have a 30% off code which also works on the sleeve expansion pattern.
Thank you for that suggestion it does look like a great fit! I was looking at the True Bias Aster but I’m not sure I’ll feel comfortable with such a low back 😊 x
The Sewing Revival has the exact pattern for your ruffle blouse (in fact I just bought it myself!). It has no buttons and has all the options for sleeveless, sleeved and a dress.
I'm getting into Style Arc too. Making the Bob pants today but had to unpick the waistband as they are too big, have to reduce the length of the body by 11/2 inches. Love the fit though. I too have stash to use up. Good luck with your sewing, look forward to seeing what you make
I have been enjoying your channel for quite a while now, thank you. Your pick of the Style Arc ruffled blouse pattern caught my eye and I am sure I have something (a lot of things) in my stash that I can use LOL. A suggestion for the knitted top - when you showed your high street inspiration photo, I immediately thought of Joni by Natasja Hornby. Her version is a bit see through but that would depend on the yarn you used.
Seems or I has a ruffled top called Fifer. I made it and love it. I am short from shoulder to underarm so I added 3/8 to the armscye and it fits perfectly.
Hi Sally, do you know the name of the StyleArc wrap dress? I can't seem to find it on their website. Love the advice to sew through what you have before buying more fabrics. I find this really helps me too! I would love to see a video sometime about favourite kid's patterns if you have any recommendations. Id love to try sewing a romper for my 9 year old daughter. The navy floral fabric for your daughter looks sweet! Thanks!
I have just made the Style Arc Smith Jacket and I would really recommend it. I’ve made mine in moleskin and I’ve worn it loads. I am intending to make another and I think it would be great in a heavier linen.
@@SecretLifeOfASeamstress as usual with Style Arc I went a bit off piste but it’s a deceptively straightforward make. My tip would be, as it is unlined, I did bias bound seams that worked really well.
I would love to see a sew along for the jacket. I have seen mixed reviews of the style arc patterns, especially the instructions, and would love to hear your opinions.
Yes I know I have found the same. I’ve had some that have been great like the Logan and some that I’ve found difficult to follow. I’ll keep you posted x
Inspirational video Sally. I love all your thoughts and plans for summer. I agree with you entirely regarding a stash. I find it overwhelming with a complete room of material. And it’s so nice to go and look for something new. The linen fabric would look super with a shirt and shorts. Love the top you are wearing today. Which pattern is it please?
I can’t wait to have a go with that linen now it’s funny how you suddenly get inspired isn’t it! My top is the Nicks blouse by Closet Core, the pattern should be linked in the description 😊
Great vlog as always - very Inspiring 😊 I too have seen many linen co-ord sets and have just purchased some chocolate linen viscose for the make. I too was thinking Esti vibes but reluctant to purchase as have the safya pattern. I have ascertained that the main difference is the Esti trouser is wider leg and a has a waistband. I’d be keen to learn what top you decide to make 😊.
I love the idea of summer knits but it's so humid in the summer where I live, even cotton knits are unbearable. Silk or linen yarn might be a better option but my frugal little heart won't allow me to make that investment lol.

That sounds complicated 😆 Thank you for the advice it’s good to know pattern designers can help xx
@@SecretLifeOfASeamstress There is definitely a reason I’m watching your videos about sewing and that I’m not making videos about knitting 😅

Thank you I will have a look at the pattern 😊 I’m excited to get going with these plans now xx

Look at the my favorite things patterns, camisole #9 might work, also Sari Nordlund has good summer patterns.
Thank you for the suggestion! Xx
Great ideas Sally. I look forward to seeing the finished items
Thank you for watching I’m excited to get working on them xx
I’m interested in several of the patterns and variations mentioned. Thank you for the inspiration!
Thank you for watching xx
I love the knitting ideas, I have sometimes found knitted fabric and cheated my making myself a top that’s looks knitted x
What a great idea!!
Lovely video Sally, thank you. Some great ideas. I was so lucky to be abe to visit the Along Avec Anna shop a couple of weeks ago.
Oh I bet that was lovely 🥰

Ooh chocolate linen will be lovely! I wonder if it would be easy to widen the Safiyas a little? Interesting we had the same idea - good taste haha.
Hi Sally- Have you made the Montana dress before? If so can you link? I am curious to see! Thanks
I haven’t but I have the pattern and want to make it soon x
Angela of Devon thread tales made the bianca flight suit in black it looked really nice check her out I think one in cream would really suit you
Oh I do follow Angela but I don’t think I’ve seen that, I’ll have a look x

I know, I have found that before too. However in England we definitely have more than a few cooler summer days 😂
What is the top pattern you are wearing-just what I am looking for.
It says in the caption
It’s the Nicks Blouse by Closet Core. It should be linked xx
❤
Wash the scratchy linen in hair conditioner, let it soak overnight.
Ah thanks for the tip I’ve never heard of that before! X
That's the most intrusive ad I've ever come across
Er… ok??
