Cannot believe I am here since January. One of the countries I have stayed in the longest during whole my travels. So grateful for all the “first time” things I have done in this country. From learning to surf, trying so many new fruits right from the tree, seeing wild animals in the casual walks, and trying so many delicious foods that this island has to offer. I even had a first-time minor surgery because of a toe infection (yes, traveling is not always fun & shining).
Before anything else, the hospitality of people comes as a major reason to stay here this long. Kindness, hospitality, smiles - that is what you get from the locals. People that even do not have much for themselves, are willing to offer so much to you as a guest. People that always happy to help with no expectations. People take time from their day to send you suggestions on where to go and what to do.
Time is running and there is so much to see and explore. The World has so much to offer and we do not have enough time.
Definitely, this is not going to be goodbye, even tho normally I do not go to countries that I have been to already. I will be back for more exploration!

Factor the economic situation into your finances before you go. My mom has been there since January and it’s been a down spiral since. 2 years of Covid lockdowns + Agriculture changes + corruption + missed debt payments has created a dollar shortage. Artificial Inflation was done to increase currency conversion rates to attract foreign investment, however this occurred when the Ukraine/Russia conflict started and its only further crippled a struggling economy. 30% of all tourism in Sri Lanka is supported by Ukrainians and Russians, and the #1 Tea customer is Russia but SWIFT removal locks out trade. Everything put together has caused the price of everything to skyrocket- gas is harder to come by now as supply has dwindled and the gov is out of money. Going in the summer may not be the best idea as that is when the Bonds mature and Sri Lanka as a government goes bankrupt if they don’t get the dollar situation straight. This is not a unique situation as many other country’s are facing the same, but Sri Lanka will be the first domino to fall- snow flake to avalanche that brings about the global ‘Great Reset’
My father was talking about this foreigner he met at camera hub and how he was sharing his experiences with him. As soon as he mentioned that the foreigner was from Azerbaijan and that he said its next to turkey, i knew it was you 😂 Then he was regretting for not knowing you in advance...😂 Anyways, thanks for EVERYTHING Davud and wish you all the best in wherever you go and whatever you do!!! Because your personality is something other tourists don't have. You are the only one I saw who respected those innocent poor people in rural villages. Let’s be honest. Sri Lanka would not rise up unless we eradicate these politicians from the root. Which is not practical at all. Corruption is at the top level in the parliament. Can’t help with tourism or any other revenue stream if the government is full of corrupted politicians.
