    Love the direction this gate is going! I think itll be very successful when you can get it to work seamlessly with tracking multiple racers times seamlessly. Also, may I suggest putting mounting holes in your base? Such as we see in chargers for power tool chargers? Then we could mount it on walls or ceilings! 😊

    well done! keep posting those cool projects!
    I'll make sure to take a shot at building it.

    Great project!!
    I also tried building a gate with ultrasonic sensors but they were not reliable or fast enough. I was using a raspberry pi.
    Switched to a laser sensor and it was much more reliable, but mounting it it's harder as laser and sensor need to be perfectly aligned. I have it on my todo list..
    As a solution for multiple pilots, I know of a couple products that use the VTX frequency to differentiate the pilots.

      Thank you! I think the laser would be a great alternative but could definitely see mounting as an issue. I’m looking into alternative methods right now

    You could now connect an FC between your 5.8 GHz RX module and goggle video in, and have the OSD chip overlay lap times on top of your video feed. I did some BetaFlight hacking at some point, let me know if this is interesting to you

    the screen should be covered fully that you can't see anything other than pixels ,it will look better and it is the right method that i think you can easly find in screen datasheet

    since its a gate why not use nfc tags (or any other type of tag) to fergo the ultra sonic detectors ? i think you can create some sort of a scanner in the tube and have each racer its own tag ;)

    • @NicolaiVdS
      @NicolaiVdS ปีที่แล้ว

      surplus: i saw each lap is the total amount of second, would be nicer to know how long each lap took

      Thank you so much for the feedback! I’ll definitely look into the nfc tags, sounds promising!

      Interesting, but I have my doubts that the reader is fast enough or that you can pass at a distance from the reader?

    • @joegroom3195
      @joegroom3195 ปีที่แล้ว

      NFC is typically short range and gets expensive to go long range. Same with RFID. I was thinking a barcode scanner. It'd be a simple barcode sticker on the whoop, so light weight. Nothing fancy, doesn't need to be a 2D barcode. The ESP32 supports a camera and there's code to read barcodes. The question is, would the camera and recognition be fast enough to capture the barcode as it's flying through.
