I love that you tried this unconventional hack! As someone who was debating on whether to get a straight stitch machine or not this definitely gave me something to consider.
I have an older Juki DDL 5550-6, and I use an industrial Singer walking foot. To shield the exposed longer screw, I place a short length of thin brass tubing over it. (I found mine pre-cut to ~ 1/3" long, among some misc. parts in a bin in the garage. Don't know where it came from, but it works well for this purpose.)
You can get small packs of SAE and Metric threaded screws at ACE hardware or sometimes a big box store like Home Depot or Lowes will have your size and head. Heat shrink tubing is in the electrical section of HD or Lowes also, or even Walmart in small packs.
I brought my original screw to Home Depot, but there was nothing even close to the size I needed. Obviously YMMV, but the best fit I've found yet are these products: 18-8 Stainless Steel Socket Head Screw 5-44 Thread Size, 1/2" Long www.mcmaster.com/92196A234/ Ball-End Hex Screwdriver 3/32" Size (you'll need this too) www.mcmaster.com/5497A25/
Thanks for the great video! I would try putting a piece of heat shrink on the 2 prongs that ride on the screw so the metal doesnt wear through as quickly. Ive noticed some walking foot models have nylon here for that but those ones were low shank. If I see a high shank with nylon I will pass along a link!
I bought the same machine except mine is the H model, its too fast for me even at the slowest speed so I bought a speed reducer and after I mounted it I did not like the way it changed things so I made a new table, its now 32 inches deep an not the 21 inches of the original, I can still tilt the machine back on the rest with out having to remove the belt, I also put a piano hinge on the back between the table top and the stand an added a couple of gas shocks to allow it to lift up so I can get it through the door openings, you have to lift out the machine an pull out the oil pan first but the bigger table an the mounting of the speed reducer is worth the hassle as I only pull it out of my spare bedroom when I am doing bigger projects
Hi! Thanks for the update, I got the walking foot and was wondering for the screw. Will you send some, 2-3 to me all ready covered with the tubing. Thanks tell me how much.
Heat shrink can repair the wires going into earbuds. The trick is to cut the tubing down the middle. Then wrap it around the wire. Apply a little super glue to secure the heat shrink (aka so heat shrink doesn't unravel). Then apply heat gun.

Can I buy a few screws and heat tubing from you?

That’s an excellent idea! Thanks!

Where do you order the walking foot attachment at
Hi just wanted to know the size of the bobbin for Juki ddl 8700 thanks 🙏
Hi! Thanks for the update, I got the walking foot and was wondering for the screw. Will you send some, 2-3 to me all ready covered with the tubing. Thanks tell me how much.
Thanks for the update.
you could heat shrink a bunch of screws and sell them
thank you for shearing, have a great day 👍❤
You want to sell some of those McMaster acquired screws?
Fantastic!
Maybe sell some of the extra!

Once you figure out the best fit....I would heat wrap all the screws and sell in batches of 3.
Not necessarily a bad idea, but that could open her up to liability issues from Juki as well as the people she sold to.
That's exactly why I am not selling these...
Omg. You are awesome! I loved this hack💯💯💯
