  • Working with WS2815 or any other digital pixel LED strip that has Backup data? In this short video, we will show you how we are connecting this type of strip. For those that are working with our LED Ethernet Controller 3 or SPI Matrix, the D/B pin on the Output is not the Backup data.

I have a recently acquired a strip that is labelled "FI FO" instead of BI. It seems to be the backup line as it runs the LED light program for either line. The distributor recommended that I tie the data DI and FI together. FYI, the product is a 10m length of 24v "flex" strip light.

Best practice, for us, is to connect the Backup data on Ground. Which IC is this? Curious about the labeling. Never encountered such strip, yet it happend a few times that the producer simply decided to use their own marks :)

Thank you very much for the good video. But what is the point of the backup pin? is this there for the fact that if an LED breaks, that the signal is then looped through?

Hi, yes, the purpose of the backup is when one LED diode dies, the second one after the broken one will work.

Why couldn't you connect the backup data to the original data line?

Because that would shift the image data. The backup line should remove first LED from the data you send, but we don't do that in the controllers. You would need to generate whole new signal, which doesn't contain first LED to be correct. Anyway, our experience - the backup never works well.

Czyli takie podłączenie spowoduje ze kopia zapasowa będzie działać bez problemu tak ?

Tak :) though it is worth noting that this is for the strip type that we are using.
