many thanks Stephen for a practical hands on explanation of what to do if my Ford Kuga runs out of diesel, I keep telling my boys to NOT run down the fuel haha, my way of dealing with would be to call my Auto rescue....... Kia Ora from Aotearoa
I’ve been stubbing out anderson plugs front and rear on my trucks forever. Makes jumping quick and easy, and that’s how I run heavy 12 volt to my dump trailer, and trailers with a winch. Makes all the difference. I’ve also stubbed anderson plugs on to several pieces of heavy gear we own that sits idle, and have batteries in inconvenient places, so I can take either the andersonanderson jumper, or half a set of anderson split jumpers to another vehicle.
Back in the early 00's at the parts store I worked at, we used to make custom jumper cables out of 00 gauge welding cable and extreme duty clamps. The mills we supplied used those to boost the industrial 24v equipment. This was kind of a throw back video for me, it was a video starting a diesel that lost it's prime that I first remember seeing you in action.
Used to have a nice set of cables my dad made out of welding cable, they were 35' long. I jumped a lot of cars trucks didn't matter how they were parked. Long as I could get close. Someone stole them out of my truck, need to make a new set.
I’ve had a 972 cat loader primer go bad once. I removed the return line to the tank and pressurized the tank with air to prime it that way to get it to start.
I had a military 5 ton that I had a hard time to get it to fire after fuel filter change a friend came up from one of the other shops and helped me get it started he just happened to stop by it still took awhile we rechecked everything that I had done sometimes they can be stubborn
Fuel sender on my truck has gotten unreliable when the fuel gets low, I try not to get below 1/4 tank. Pushed it a few months back and was on the way to the station when it just ran out of fuel. Managed to coast it to a good stopping point and did the 2 mile walk of shame to the station to get a few gallons of diesel. Was expecting a fight to get it started from all the various diesel out of fuel stories and videos I've seen. But I just treated it like I'd just changed the fuel filter, did a few key on / off cycles to let the pump circulate the fuel, heard air the first two cycles and then almost none after the fourth, so gave it a crank...fired right up, sputtered just briefly and drove straight to the station to get a full tank. Aside from the walking it was a rather uneventful experience....thankfully. Absolutely no plans to repeat that experience anytime soon.
I have a GM service manual for my old 6.2. In the FAQs They state that gasoline will not harm a diesel because it will not burn in a diesel engine. A small amount will simply make the engine harder to start, larger amounts will prevent it from running completely. So it seems if GM is correct your gas on a rag trick is making the engine harder to start. I also had a GM tech tell me once to use WD 40 as it will start a diesel as easily as starting fluid while also keeping the upper cylinder walls lubricated.
I guess it all depends on what Diesel your working on . On my old VW I just undone the banjo fuel line on the pump and fill the pump with diesel fuel keep feeding the lump till she clears the air out . Saves the battery from to much cranking .
I made a set of cables out of old welder ground cables. I bought clamps from a supplier in my area. I used them to jump everything from cars to heavy equipment, semi's and several firetrucks, even a train once
for those of you that shop at Walmart get the set that shows it starts a semi not any of the cheaper pairs that is the best to buy for the car not the pair that says it starts cars get the most expensive set trust me you want the biggest set
I’ve got a 75hp MorCoick diesel tractor that is giving me hell trying to crank it by myself. That plus where is a place to get some rebuilt hydraulic cylinders my 2 lift cylinders have gotten nicks or burrs on them
Do you still use the hulking jump pack. I purchased one after seeing in on your first channel, I have a 6.0l powerstroke and so far has helped during cold weather starts
My son was an 86 Ford with 6.9/7.3 IDI (not sure which one we where told it got switched out from 6.9 to 7.3) that has been sitting awhile. but we cant get it to start. i for one would love to see him get it started I can you my email if you want to talk that way.
Here's a question..... how to get a 2003 7.3 started after it died going down the highway and won't restart. Replaced IPR, CPS, ICP 60psi fuel pressure with Guage at fuel bowl, No CEL or codes.....getting nowhere ugh.
@@StephenCox. it does. I hooked up a gauge to a plug on the oil rail on the passenger side. Showed 500psi on the first long crank and then I couldn't get to go any higher than 350psi on any attempt after that. It climbs up to 65% on IPR while cranking so it's demanding oil pressure but wouldn't it at least make an attempt to fire @ 500psi ? New batteries, all new sensors that cause no start, lots of fuel pressure, "minimum" starting oil psi at one point. I'm down to bad HPOP, Leaking injector O-ring, bad IDM or PCM????? It's been 15 years since I've owned a 7.3 and my diagnostic game is rusty! Hahahaha. Leaking injector O-ring
Pull the fuel filter and check the heating element in the bottom had one break and then short out took a fuse out also was running fine one minute no start the next
I am having same issue with my 02 7.3. I was driving down the road and truck randomly shut off. At that point I pulled the ICP and it started. So far I have replaced ICP, IPR, Cam Sensor, fuel filter, and checked all fuses/relays, checked batteries. It will crank but not start. Did you figure out what was causing the problem?
current dynamics look them up for really really good jumper cables world has shut down basasiclly he really short on stuff but try to get ahold of him he fix you up now or later when can get parts
I'm hearing 'never let a diesel run out of fuel'. ;)
I like to pull a vacuum on the return for priming. Hasn’t failed me yet.

Damn, you've been watching my content for awhile. Thank you!!!
Can't wait for more vids, glad to see ya back cranking em out. All the best from the cold north!

I used to jump my 40 foot Eagle bus with a Detroit with my 86 Honda Prelude. I'd just let it run and charge the batteries for about an hour.
I bought a 1 gauge, 20 ft set of jumper cables for starting heavy equipment. ☺️
Hopefully not recently, so you didn't need to take out a mortgage to afford them.
I had a military 5 ton that I had a hard time to get it to fire after fuel filter change a friend came up from one of the other shops and helped me get it started he just happened to stop by it still took awhile we rechecked everything that I had done sometimes they can be stubborn
Ok i thought you bought a bigger service truck good Video keep up the good work sir 👍👍👍
A little sniff of propane works well in the farm tractors especially when cold.
with perkins it seems that you need to loosen the injector lines. or need to pull it... the pump will not bleed even with the bleed screws loose

They got you too man I just found Chucky then I found you
Thanks for the links in the description, I’ve been needing to build an Anderson plug setup for a while. Take care buddy

Thank you Steven, welcome aboard 👋, I love watching your videos ❤😎
Man, you are on that grind! Consistently pumping out that A++ content. The future bright. 😎
I appreciate that!
Oh my Gog he spilled $20.00 worth of diesel !

I like these vids when you teach, give tips and wrench...Good stuff Steve...Cheers 🥃🥃❤️🇺🇸❤️ Russ
Nice to see you back at the videos again. Comment for the algorithm more than anything.
Chuckie probably has your good cables.
Lol 😆
I made a set of cables out of old welder ground cables. I bought clamps from a supplier in my area. I used them to jump everything from cars to heavy equipment, semi's and several firetrucks, even a train once
One way I have used is to fill a paint sprayer with diesel and spray atomized diesel into the intake
where did you acquire the brushgaurd for that kodiak?
I'd like to see the Anderson cable set up that you like. Sounds handy to just have around.
I'm going to buy a set and modify them with an Anderson plug like I prefer. Itll be a little while though. I'm broke as a joke at the moment 🤣
for those of you that shop at Walmart get the set that shows it starts a semi not any of the cheaper pairs that is the best to buy for the car not the pair that says it starts cars get the most expensive set trust me you want the biggest set
Very helpful. I have a Detroit 53 v 6.
I’ve got a 75hp MorCoick diesel tractor that is giving me hell trying to crank it by myself. That plus where is a place to get some rebuilt hydraulic cylinders my 2 lift cylinders have gotten nicks or burrs on them
I use Twisted Wire Hydraulics in Weatherford Texas. They can rebuild cylinder, make new rods, new pistons, and new barrels if it needs it.
@@StephenCox. thank you for the information

No I dont, the ex-wife took it
Sorry
Cool 😎 thanks 🙏

19k now and more views of video than subscribers. That's a good ratio.
Yeh frying starter motors is not uncommon, I have seen a few!
Pressure opening a diesel ⛽ tank? I'd be concerned it had gasoline in it. Also thought they had evap system on most tanks for vapors.
It's stupid that they don't have a pump in the tank to keep the system primed

Hiya Stephen
I use a modified weed sprayer full of diesel to pressurize the fuel system
Does the smell of fuel remind urself of success
If you need to change your saying instead of saying something say "it"

Does the glow plug light on the instrument cluster come on whenever you turn the key on?
@@StephenCox. it does.

A dollar store spray bottle with diesel. Crank spray start.
i want a 3 cylinder diesel Prius, capitalism step up now.....

...it's run...
Just toilet spray or deodorant in the air intake, doing it for years, just did it again with toilet spray in a ford transit custom
👍👍
