    Very interesting. I was unaware the Vanilla Infinity Engine had a UE5 port.
    Infinity+ will not be ported to UE5 though. We’ve been working on it for so long and kinda just want to get it to a finished spot by this point. Although there is someone in our community who has begun working on an unofficial UE5 port so maybe that will go somewhere.

    This project of yours looks and graphics better than many official Sonic games. Cool. Really cool. P.S. Just one question: Exactly where did you get the 3D models of Sonic and the others? Did you make them yourself or did you get them from somewhere?

      Hey, this is actually not my project.
      But it's publicly available, so I decided to make a tutorial about it.
      I believe they probably ripped most of them from sonic generations.

    hey, mugenengine won't download, when i click download zip it does, but in my download icon on my browser it does not show the percentage but shows how many mb have been downloaded and the bar won't progress

    Hi there, I just got one question for you. What are the code to let sonic dash up and run up slopes and hills? Sorry if that doesn't make any sense I'm still new to unreal engine and I don't know the actual code names. Thank you.

      Hey, since the movement relies on the character movement component you probably don't have to change any code or blueprints for adjustments like that.
      In the sonic or shadow blueprint under the components on the left top you should find the character movement component.
      Click it and then on the right details panel you see a bunch of parameters or settings.
      There should be things such as 'max step height' but also the max angle you can run.
      Sorry but I don't know the exact name, but there should be something when you search for 'slope' or 'angle'.

    I don’t rlly know anything about making maps and stuff but is it possible to take the East London map from Watch Dogs and then use that part of the map with Infinity Engine and have Sonic running around there?

    How did you make the boost work on slopes again? When I played in the map the boost would stop once you went up or down a slope.

    Can it be used commercially if I replace the copyrighted models with my own?

      Not quite sure about that.
      You'd have to double check the license of the original Infinity Engine (Not the github reupload for UE5).
      But even if they claim it's under a MIT license, I believe they probably don't have the right to do so since assets they don't have the copyright for are included.
      I'd personally stay away from that and remake everything from scratch.
      However you should be ok to use this as a learning resource and reference on how to implement something (even though the blueprints in this project are horrendous and not a good example of how to do things)

      You'd have to manually update the project version, but that should work out in most cases.

    How difficult is it to import player models and objects that are not native to the engine?

      Not very hard, but if you create the model yourself in blender you'll need to pay attention to a few export settings to make them work properly with unreal engine.
      For fbx animations though there is currently an engine bug which will prevent you from importing them most of the time.

    Hi, it's cool that it's all free and you can see how the logic is done there and use it to your advantage for your projects, but I don't understand why it's being passed off as another engine if it's basically UE5(UE4) and they created a bunch of blueprints in it, can you do that? (Also, I looked at the logic behind these blueprints, and I was sickened by how bad it was there) Anyway, thanks again to you and the people who put this together.

      I think it's just that 'Infinity Engine' sounds cool and this is mostly targeted at amateur game devs who wouldn't know the difference.
      Yeah technically it isn't more than a big template or sample project with a bunch of animations and blueprints set up.
      And yes I was also shocked by how unorganized and unoptimized the blueprints were, but I think that makes it even more amazing that they were so passionate about this project, they were able to create something this amazing even with limited knowledge about blueprints.

      It's been a couple of years since I did the multiplayer for the school project, so I'm not too sure about the specifics anymore, but it wasn't really that complicated.
      It was mostly just spawning multiple pawns on begin play, assigning a player controller to them and setting up the split screen.

      You could if you find the model and animations 'somewhere', but it would take A LOT of time and effort to set up the new animation graph and hook everything up.

      Hey, sorry but I'm not quite sure why that is happening.
      In the best case scenario it just couldn't recognize the default map settings in the game mode.
      In that case you should be able to just open up the map yourself, you can either turn on a filter for maps in the content browser or search for 'Blitz', which I think is the maps name.

      It will probably run, but not very well.
      You might have to set the screen percentage setting to something around 50% to get a smooth experience.

      There are many sonic fan games and even an expo called SAGE dedicated to them, so it seems like sega is a lot more lenient about this than other publishers, but you never know how long that will last.
      As mentioned in the disclaimer in the video description you should do your own research if you plan to release anything publicly you make with this.
      I would only use this as an educational reference to learn about level design and look at the blueprints to get a better understanding of how to create a platformer character in UE that feels good to control.

      Hey, that is just the regular HUD of Unreal Engine 5.
      Not sure if you've tried it out yet, but it looks very different from Unreal Engine 4.

      You have to set the gameMode for that map which let's you specify which character to spawn.
      You might also have to add a 'player start'

    So I opened it and it crashed, and it wanted me to convert it into 5.1 and it still crashed after that...
    I'm on mac so I don't know if that's a problem

      Don't know much about macs, but since this project was made for 5.0 you'd probably have less issues opening it in that version rather than 5.1

      You'll have to look into retargeting animations.
      It's gotten a lot easier since UE 5.0 though, but it might still take you a few days or so to get the hang of it.

      Somebody saying 'please respond fast' and being demanding makes me not wanna respond at all, but you're lucky I'm a really nice dude.
      I still think first of all you need to work on your attitude and expectations though.
      Making money with games is probably one of the hardest things in the world you could ever do... that doesn't mean that I want you to give up on that, but I want you to realize that you will fail over and over and over again attempting to do that and it will take years of determination to actually succeed in that field even a little bit.
      There's many different ways you could possibly make money and I think what you're talking about are mobile game ads.
      I don't think showing an ad on boot up is the right way to go about it though. You'd more likely show an ad whenever the player dies or have them watch a video to get an item.
      Now I've never done mobile games or mobile ads because my focus is somewhere else, so when it comes to implementation you'll have to look around for somebody else. Also for mobile games unreal engine is probably not your best bet.

      AFAIK unreal engine doesn't detect 'direct input', but only 'x-input' controllers by default.
      So it should work if you use an xbox controller. If you use something else you could add a link to your unreal engine project in steam and start it through steam to get access to the steam input system.

I tend to leave my audio on my PC the same and just lower the volume in each game invidually because some games tend to be louder and lower than others. Sorry for all of these questions...     When clicking on this I wasn't really looking at the video duration, and was expecting to see how you build the game from ground up, not just map editing.
    And after finish watching I still don't know why Infinity Engine and what does it do that make you choose it on top of UE5. (Other than the Sonic project of course, but then why not just call it Sonic Game Template?).
    I think it's fair to say that's a misleading title for a Sonic game template showcase video.
    Edit: Removed the part where the video is quiet, just my headphone dying. Thank you.

      Hey, thank you for your feedback and giving me your opinion!
      I'm sorry that the video didn't deliver on the promise the title gave you.
      If more viewers feel that way I'll consider changing the title, since I didn't mean to be misleading.
      I personally believe though that "How to ... - Infinity Engine Tutorial' should have made it clear enough that this is not me making the game from the ground up and just a walkthrough of how to use Infinity Engine.
      I believe this is much more than just map editing though since I also walk through the process of setting it up, show the part of my school project where we added additional functionality and try to give a base explanation of how you could go about adding your own functionality as well.
      Infinity Engine comes with everything exposed as blueprints so you can learn about how every part of the game works simply by looking at the blueprints and then making changes to them.
      You can then apply those lessons to your other platformer games you are making.
      I hope this cleared up a few misconceptions!

      I don't have any experience with Mac, but Unreal Engine should work on mac in general.
      There isn't anything specifically different about Infinity Engine, so yeah it should also work.

      In that case going the git route would solve the issue since that downloads the files as they are without packaging them.
      It's a bit advanced though and you'd need to install git and learn how to clone a repository to your machine in the command line, but that would definitely work on mac

      We're currently on 5.3.2 and the linked infinity engine was for 5.0.
      However in most cases it's easy enough to update a project to new versions and there should probably not be any issues.

      I don't think there is any, but you could look at how the rails are built in this engine as a reference.
      I haven't really looked too much into it either, but they're all splines, so that's a place to start.

      Not quite sure what you're looking for.
      You could change the voice by using completely different audio clips.
      Or you could edit the pitch and other things of the audio cue to just edit the voice.

      But currently I'm mostly focusing on 2D stuff since that's what most of my viewers want right now.
      I might revisit sonic things and 3D Platforming again later this year or next year!

    If I was going to make a sonic game, I would take the default infinity engine and do what I could to convert all of the blueprints into c++, there is other issues with the project like he never used inheritance so both shadow and sonic use the same nodes rather then getting them from a parent class.
    All in all its a sold start and I personally prefer it over infinity as its quite simple where infinity doesn't really know where it wants to be

      Yeah definitely agree with you.
      They built an amazing base here, but if you want to use it on a serious long term project a total refactor is absolutely necessary.
      Like you mentioned having a cast for sonic and another cast for shadow for each action was really shocking to see.

      Not quite sure why that is happening.
      Then maybe you should give the 'git clone' method a try. You might need to do a bit of research on how to use git and clone repositories, but that way it will download the files in a non archived way, so it should fix your issue.

    I'm not gonna sugarcoat it : The port to UE5 has some of the worst examples on how to script the game and some bad blueprint practices. It looks good on the inside, but the inside of it, as you can sneak peek in the blueprint part of the video, is a total mess.
    Let me explain the technicalities here, for the more savvy. This is comment will be very long. I'll give tl;dr impact later :
    1. Most things are hardcoded. What I mean is that there are fixed variables like what effect and sound to use, what actions to take for which object. The Sonic/Shadow blueprint class tries to cast each object one by one to determine half of which action to take when interacting with them, including the damage dealing. Most of their actions are also barely capable to be overridden if you want to make other Sonic characters. Heck, did you know that the invincibility frames are basically a fixed string of copypasted delay > visibility change instead of a more versatile time-based function?
    2. Get this : There's little to no parent-class relationship despite the similarity in actions that each object has, including Sonic and Shadow. This means that the springs and enemies has to cast the pawn to either Sonic or Shadow... and uses their exclusive variables to do basically the same behavior. Each springs and dash rings are also their own class with their own exclusive variables and their own functions. This is hella inefficient and could've easily been avoided by just giving parent classes for each categories like springs, dash rings. Heck, Sonic and Shadow could've been parented to same class since most of the things they do are basically copy-pasted from each other, variables included.
    3. A lot of things could easily be compacted into functions. Granted, some had delays that made compacting them to functions impossible, but a lot of them can be made into timer-based function. Like the slowdown timing. The abilities and movesets are also mostly opened up in the event graph instead of being used as an overridable functions
    Tl;dr : The blueprints basically looked like it was created with only Sonic and Shadow in mind, with you being expected to just use the assets in level editor instead of being able to actually add/change things outside of variables.
    That doesn't mean you shouldn't use Infinity Engine though, because it does have some good end-functionality. It's just that the organization of these functionalities are a mess, and hardly workable if you want to do more than just make levels. Also, no disrespect to the devs of Infinity Engine, because even if it was a mess, it actually works well enough
    PS : I'm actually trying to tweak the blueprints so that they are much more versatile and modular to use. As expected, there's nearly no loss in functionality. For people who wishes to work with blueprints : do not do it like this. Blueprints can be used as parent class of your other blueprints, and trust me : it makes organizing things a lot better. I dunno if this is just ancient old stuff, but trust me when I say it's not a good practice to just parent everything to Actor or Character. Heck, if you can do C++, you can go ahead and make the base class in C++ instead.

      I remember it being a mess back then as well.
      I totally agree with you, but didn't want to dwell on that too hard since I'm really thankful to what the original creator did here and it's amazing what they accomplished even though they probably don't have that much experience with Unreal Engine judging by how the blueprints look.
      If I was to seriously work with infinity engine I also feel like I'd need to do a complete refactor first.

      @@CobraCode Honestly I don't know because I got into the craze late due to specs issue. That's kinda why I said UE5 because that's the only one that I know.
      I do have to give it to them that they made something that actually worked function-wise. It's just... yeah, a lot of things inside had to be redone.
      Also, iirc I remember once upon a time, corkscrew behavior was not possible in blueprint-only project before in Unreal Engine 4 because there were things that prevented upside down characters from working properly

      I think the entire legal situation around fan games and this repository is very gray, so I'd stay away from it as much as possible for serious projects.
      But I think you can use it as a reference for how to implement certain things and also as a playground for practicing certain mechanics... and it's also just a lot of fun to mess around with.

      The map itself is free on the marketplace though, so you could easily rebuild it yourself
