For me they removed too many memorable lines. Pumba getting stuck and screaming "she's gonna eat me!", Death of the King line is not in there. Scar yelling Sarabe! That's gone and they changed the Hyenas complaining to Scar that they won't hunt. They also change the line where Rafiki says "you're Mufasa's boy!". Like come on, these were so memorable for me. Also there seems to be a lack of passion to some of the scenes. James Earl Jones yelling Simba, or Scar telling Mufasa that Simba is down there! Just did not feel as impactful.
Yeah and it made the pacing feel really of now and then. You can feel it's either skipping something or rushing something

There were some fun things that they added into the movie, some of which were new from the original. But yeah, they definitely lost a lot of the good things from the original as well.

The lack of emotion on the characters' faces was, for me, the number one problem with this movie. But certainly not the only one. We did not give it a good review.
The final straw for me was the fact that "Can you feel the love tonight" was sung in the daytime.

Scar from the original Lion King was so badas he could manipulate the world around him with the power of his voice. The remake Scar...looks like a generic lion with a scar. Stupid.

Fun Fact. Beyonce was originally chosen to play Tiana in The Princess and the Frog (the first black Disney Princess) but she lost the role because she didn't want to audition. She felt she didn't need to. Lol.

I completely agree, I don’t want to go to any of these live action versions of there movies, because they keep making them and its just reusing the exact same plots to make more money. I prefer reboots where they at least change up the story a bit.

Rafiki scene where he laughs and says “ haha you won’t find him there, The king has returned” . It hurt my soul that wasn’t in there
They also left out the scene where Rafiki whacks Simba on the head.
Rafiki is just watered down for no reason. Meanwhile we get more scenes of animals who are not timon and pumba interacting with simba
I hate them removing the line from Rafiki: "Run from it, or learn from it." Thats was literally the lesson of the movie.

Yeah, it's not a remake of the cartoon. It's a live-action of the Ballad of Mulan, the original story. It's good they are doing that, because Disney is infamous for stealing other culture's legends and folklore and adapting them to western audiences. It'll be nice to see them creating a movie with the original tale.

I was sorely dissapointed, it felt like a soulless, unemotional, inferior movie. I wanted to love this but even my daughter didn't care for it. On the other hand it did make us both want to come home and watch the original which is still the King!
It's a remake of a masterpiece. You may as well try to attract an audience to see a print of the Mona Lisa enhanced with Photoshop.
At least it might be decent sized at that point.
They rushed with the dialogues many times, that's what bothered me the most.
It feels like they went through the script and cut out every moment where there was a "[beat]", meaning that there is never any time for the dialogue to resonate or for the characters' actions to linger.
And even with the dialogue feeling rushed, the film is literally almost a full 40 minutes longer than the original. I don't know how Disney did it, but they did.
I totally agree with the whole critic, beatiful, but this movie was unnecessary :/

The movie falls flat on its face immediately for failing to get Jeremy Irons back for scar - The lack of his ability to produce a menacing character, even without facial gestures, is what sinks the film. Jeremy has a gift at bringing good villains to life - Hell, Lance Riddick would have been an amazing choice if they didn't want Jeremy, he could easily have pulled off a better villain than the actor they chose. The movie lives or dies based on Scar, not based on Simba and the other lions.
They can only have black people cast because duh the movie is for black people praise black ppl
Jeremy irons was not casted because of his skin colour. His voice is a thing of the gods:amazing!He ranks no 1 has having the best voice in the world. Yet he was cast aside.

But hey its like the original Star Wars movies. “Re-release” them on the big screen.
Nostalgia sells obviously. And people would love to relive that moment. Or have it for the first time.

I just got back from seeing Lion King with my kids and grandkids. Overall it was good, however, Scar was underwhelming and the song 'Be Prepared' was dull. Ed the Hyena wasn't in the movie, at least not how he was.

This might be the worst of the remakes in my opinion. Beauty and the beast might have left me angry, but I left this film depressed. The flat voice delivery, emotionless CGI due to it being photo realistic, the removal of rafiki's it's in the past scene, and 2 hour runtime for a shot for shot remake that was only about 85 minutes. I just left the film sad, and my audience clapped at the end

-They did Rafiki dirty he was fun and cool, they made him boring
-Beyonce ruined a classic song
-New song sucked.
-The Hair scene
-The only good voice actor was James for Mufasa.
-Scar looks weird without the black mane
-They interrupted the Simba Scar fight at the end. With a Lioness vs hyena fight which was bad and drew away from simba vs scar -_-
So really you just wanted a 1:1 remake
it was a 2/10 movie while the original was a solid 9
@@ChrisS-nj3ye i didnt want the remake at all, the original was about as good as it could have been. the animation is basically timeless in most areas and the voice performances were perfect. the only thing i could have accepted was a remaster of sorts, keep the voice performances, music and story the same and keep all of the best animation, and just redo some of the stuff that didnt look as good as it could have been, they might have had to outsource for the animation since i dont know how many 2d animators they have at disney anymore that are talented enough to improve upon the original

Kovu is not scar's son in lion king 2. They pointed it out with dialogs in the movie as it would be incest because kovu ended up with Simba's daughter in the end.

I don't think you can look at these films WITHOUT taking the original in account. Because if Disney took the time an effort to even make a sequel or God forbid an original idea...
A good point to mention is that all the songs were just the animals walking around, missing a lot of the spirit of the original for the same reason of realism. No animals stacking into a tower for Can't Wait to be King, no swinging from vines in Hakuna Matata. The theatrics that made the music special is all gone

Soon as I heard this, I instantly decided this wasn’t worth watching. I’ve seen the best and the only best Lion King and seeing it again but in CGI feels like a waste of money.
I want to see the Atlantis: The Lost Empire. Live action remake. I would totally see that in theaters.
This is definitely the worst of the “live-action” Disney remakes. And I mean ‘worst’ in it’s true form, not some variation of the term. I really didn’t like this film.
I’ll admit, the visuals and humor, plus Timon and Pumbaa, are great. Even hearing James Earl Jones voice again was nice.
But overall, I was bored.

Sounds a bit disappointing, they went by the sound of it too realistic but no one actually wants that because its a fantasy movie so true realism will hurt it more then anything. They should of done as joe said done remakes of sequels that were bad so its still a live action lion king movie but its expanding the story and doing it better something that had tons of room for improvement to its writing, something like the OG lion king didn't need any script improvements and it seems like their attempts to improve it made it fail in the hearts of fans of the original.
Except it's not even a shot-for-shot remake, they left out the scene with rafiki and simba.
A shorter version of "be prepared" is also a sin in my book

They really removed the scene with Rafiki hitting simba on the head with his staff? Why!? The only reason for them to do that is to intentionally make the movie worse than the original. Why the fuck would they do that!? It genuinely confuses and angers me. I also heard the “Can you feel the love tonight” scene takes place during the daytime. Wtf?? The Lion King is my favorite animated movie and my favorite childhood movie, I was so excited for this remake as long as it was faithful to the original. I don’t understand why they would make these pointless changes when they do nothing but hurt the movie.

Except they did that already. I think it was the 15th anniversary they made an HD remake and released it for a week or two in theaters.

I like this movie but it feels like a cash grab just to show “hey look what we can do with our cgi”. I knew going in that they were going to this, but I hoping was wrong. The casting could of been better.
