I’m glad that this was a constructive conversation with differing opinions, it really puts into perspective that Korea holds many people with different opinions, same as America. I really hope that people stop hating on the people in the video because this is one of the first videos I’ve seen that is more honest about the reality of Korea, and I worry that the hate people get in this video might be taken into consideration the next time someone makes a video on Korea and others will be wary of being entirely truthful because they’ll be worried about getting hated on. The people who clicked on this video clearly wanted truthful and honest opinions so it’s time to be respectful when disagreeing with them in the comments, please have a little empathy that some people in the video were not raised the same as you and therefore do not have the same knowledge as you about the world and it’s important to treat them with care as well and hope that they will try to make an effort to learn more.

People will always judge others based on their own biases. It doesn’t matter where you are from. Folks should be themselves, always, no matter how others will see them. Stand for what you believe. You will learn things are not always how you see life through different experiences. Only you can change perspective through those. But, never be afraid to be you. Not everyone has to like you, nor do you have to like everyone. It’s ok.

Seeing a group of friends be honest with each other without arguing or being rude when they disagree is actually really refreshing. I’m sure a lot of us disagree with the guy in the middle with many things and his friends seemed to as well…HOWEVER, notice how they didn’t start arguing? I’m not saying his mindset is right, but, he answered honestly (as he was asked to do) and didn’t try to force his opinion on his friends. I have respect for anyone who is willing to be the odd one out instead of just lying and faking it. When it comes to people like him, I’d much rather them just quietly avoid the lgbtq+ community than to harass them and think about them with hatred nonstop. I’m not at all saying he is RIGHT, I can’t stress this enough. I just really love seeing a group of adults with different views speak to each other LIKE adults, in a respectful manner. If everyone in the world spoke to each other like THIS….the world would be a different place. We’re never going to agree on everything, but we can try to hear others out and try to grow as much as we can. Sadly, especially when it comes from a religious viewpoint; some people simply cannot “accept” gayness. When it comes down to it, I’d rather him carry on as he is, minding his own business instead of protesting or being directly harmful. I hope this makes sense and I really hope my message comes across properly. I’m trying to be as open-minded as possible while explaining because that’s how we should ALL be with each other. We disagree, but we’re still human and we can still communicate with respect. ❤ Thank you for sharing this interview, girl!!! It was really interesting to watch and hear the varying opinions. ❤

That's cause a lot of koreans have no morals. They live in the 1900s still in a lot of ways. When 80% of your society is close minded so you're used to it, you're not gonna cut them off. So of course there are little arguments and everything can be fine. We're more open minded in the USA though so if you're a pos human who refuses the respect of other ppl bc YOU don't agree with it, we will call you out. That won't fly here and we refuse to play nice with people like that.

Aw im so glad u did this. I dated a girl from corea when i was in my late teens. Dating me she was only around black americans n first gen west african Americans. They loved her and she loved them. I asked her what her first impressions were bc in america, a lot of ppl r shy around black folks out of fear. But she said she was shy… but not for the same reasons. She said black ppls perception in corea is that they are cool, ladies men, etc. So it was more starstruck type ish. And that was the first time I heard of a perception of black ppl being widely positive. Ur friends echoing that is so on point.
I get the clear skin thing being the main thing. But i do think pale is a positive factor as well. BUT pale has only been popping in corea for like a decade. In the 90s and 00s they were all tan. Like Brazilian type skin. But they still liked it clear. So the pale thing is i think just the beauty standards evolving like anywhere else in the world. When i visit corea i see plenty of tan ppl and ppl married to african immigrants, etc. I think the bottom line is the clear skin/healthy/taking care of yourself. I DO think pale got way popular at the same time. But tan skin is still a preference too.
    Peace.

Yeah, i believe in God, been raised in a christian household, so i never understood how others can just freely use that excuse for ‘not agreeing’ with things. Why? Just because some other humans decided that’s how they’re gonna interpret some part of the bible doesn’t automatically make it right. Doesn’t christianity also tell you you have no right to judge others? To be kind to your fellow humans, regardless? Why not focus on that part of religion? Why is it always used to hate on others? When i see stuff like this, even the first reply to the og comment, it’s pretty clear to me that these people are just repeating shit they’ve been told, never took the time to do any kind of research for themselves. You can not like gay people, sure, i don’t understand it but if that’s your opinion go for it, i guess. But don’t use your religion as an excuse, that’s just a way to avoid accountability.

I love getting their honest perspectives, even if I disagreed with them. I'd rather have honesty. On the question of Gays, I would like to share with your friends from Korea that, as a Christian someone get mixed up on this:discussion. We are called loved everyone as a Christian and not to set ourselves up as anyone's judge and jury..So, it's a Christian's goal to love others as we love ourselves. All people should be welcomed, kept safe and loved etc... I have lived as a Christian my entire life and I have known many Gay people, which include children during my childhood, they were just another friend or neighbor. They were not not picked on and I grew up in Chicago. My mom also thought it was important to be with around people that did not look like you, so I went to a n integrated nursery school, what people call Preschool all the way through to grade school.
Even our sports, and hobbies were integrated. So, I have been friends my whole life with friends who were from different nationalities and I love it. As Asian friends goes I've had, Chinese, Japanese, Filipino and I was the manager of a couple of Korean, but I did not know them on a personal level. I actually had more in common with my Asian friends than I did with my Black or White friends because my mom was very education focus and walking the straight and narrow, (a tiger mom) so we shared similar experiences and bond over them. I guess it worked since She and her 4 children all graduated from college. My son is a high achiever too, but I parent very different!
I started watching Kdramas about 2 yrs ago and I love them for so many reasons and thus I became interested in the Korean culture and I follow several Korean influencers on TH-cam. I also love seeing people of color or African- Americans living there and sharing their lives and friendships. I can't wait to visit and soak up the different cultures and sites. People are people as long as you lead with respect and love. Thank you for doing this video. I learned so much and your friends seem lovely and open.감사합니다

If S. Koreans discriminate South East Asians for being darker, then we know the real reason. It’s colorism. They connote “being pale” as being “better or more beautiful”. In reality it makes little difference but their society still has discriminatory values. Also I hear they like black people from western countries not really other black people from anywhere else. But that like still doesn’t exclude hidden racism.

This is the same as that - no worse than wearing makeup, and but nobody sees wearing makeup as problematic because everyone does it, it's normalised. Even these days you see so many examples of people showing off their wealth & status on tiktok & other social media. Kids these days may not make the same connection consciously but they've just grown up with paler skin often being seen associated with beauty.
This is the same with any kind of beauty standard in any country or time period. Why are hour glass figures considered sexy? Beards? Remember when metal corsets were a thing? I prefer an athletic, fit man with some muscle tone, over a skinny man or husky man or an overweight man.
I prefer broader shoulders over narrow shoulders.
I like guys with strong legs with defined calves, over guys that skip leg day.
I prefer NO tattoos over tattoos (in fact I hate tattoos and think they’re very ugly-major turn off).
I prefer no hair/minimal chest hair over a hairy chest.
I prefer a non smoker over a smoker, and a non drug user over a drug user (would never date a guy that smokes, uses drugs).
These are ALL physical preferences and I haven’t even touched on personality preferences or living life preferences (prefer employed over unemployed, prefer never married over having an ex wife with kids from a previous partner, prefer no criminal record over being a criminal etc).
Why do I prefer these things over others? I don’t know. I am just more attracted to them. I just like them better.
It does not mean that a shorter man, with brown eyes and chest hair can’t be a good man, or can’t be a good looking man, or won’t make a good partner or a good father, or be funny…….I just don’t find it as physically/sexually appealing/attractive as the things I prefer.
So when people say “Why can’t dark skin be good enough? Why can’t Asians like darker skin just as much as paler/lighter skin?”
They’re not saying that people with darker skin can’t look good, or be attractive to people, or do the job that skin is supposed to do on a human body. They simply prefer the LOOK of other shades of skin more than other shades of skin. Just like someone may prefer redheads over blondes…..they just prefer it. It doesn’t mean they thinks blondes have less value as a human being, they just think the coppery red hair is prettier than golden hair (to them).
It’s not a reflection of the quality of the person, or the value of a person, or the worth of a person…..it’s just what they find more attractive.
There are people that prefer skinny men, that prefer darker skin (I have a white Portuguese friend that has only ever dated, and eventually married, a black guy-it’s just her preference), that like dark chocolate brown eyes, that like beards etc.
Why do people get SO “offended” or upset by what other people find attractive?!?
Just because you’re not someone’s “ideal type” doesn’t mean you’re not someone else’s ideal type.
Be happy in your own body, and stop caring what other people think, or what other people like or dislike.
We’re all allowed to have our own preferences and we don’t always have reasons for them.
You can like whatever you like……and other people can like whatever they like.
    Get over it.

As a Christian as well we are taught to be accepting and loving of everyone regardless. No sin is greater then the other so if he doesn’t go around gay people because he sees it as a sin not only should he not judge because judging is a sin within it self but he should also self reflect because I’m sure he’s not perfect he probably cusses it’s clear he also judges gay people. You are just as bad. Cutting someone off or fully avoiding them because they are sinning is judging them based off that. we all have our own journey we’re on to be better Christians even he himself is. You can’t play the role of god and judge others when that directly goes against gods word. What you do in the situation instead is pray for them and show them kindness and fair treatment because you are not above anyone. We should be loving and accepting of everyone regardless. If you were to cut off and not talk to any sinner you’d be left with no one on earth. So cutting a person off because they are gay is not only hypocritical but contradicting as well. I hope he learns from this and reads up on what being a Christian truly is because he’s directly thinking and acting against it but uses it as a justification to act that way.

Thank God for civil movements and revolutions, because thanks to those acts today Human Rights exist. Which they also enjoy and protect equally.

About the Christian guy opinion, I know a lot of people will immediately blame Christianity and say that Christians are homophobic and stuff. Because we are living in this era where everyone is kinda forced to show "love" to everything, people tend to be quickly offended if you radically don't agree or "love, appreciate" certain things. One thing I would like to remind as a Christian myself who does not support the lgbtq+ community (Careful, I didn't say I hate you guys) is to not love something doesn't mean literally hate it, just as the lgbtq+ has values in their community, we also have values in ours which is unfortunately opposite to theirs. And I know this subject is very sensitive to discuss but let's just face it because of our different values, we will never agree and that's totally okay, let's just live our lives respecting each other (I know there is hate in both camps). When it comes to the hiding part, having sufficient knowledges about the bible (which we follow the principles to live as righteous as possible), I understand his opinion (I don't necessarily agree with the word chosen "hide") and I can assure it was not from a hateful perspective but from a biblical one. Since we all should tolerate each other, I suggest to not be quick to judgement and hate because of what he said. You are free to disagree respectfully 🤍 May God bless you all❤

Real reason a lot of Koreans prefer light skin:
It’s a symbol of wealth. Back in the day, only rich people had pale skin. They could afford skin-whitening creams/makeup and could afford to stay indoors all day. They didn’t have to go outside and had umbrellas to cover themselves and protect themselves from sunlight. The poor people had dark skin because they had to be outside all day, working in the rice fields. They were subjected to the harsh sun without any protection, thus they tanned.

It was a pretty good mood until the homophobia. I loved how everyone else reacted about it, though, lol.
EDIT: I didn't mean to start an argument in the comments, damn. Not supporting people for being gay makes you homophobic. It's not your business to tell someone that they should hide it because it "offends" you. You can believe that, but just know that it means that you're homophobic. You don't have to be out doing hate crimes to be homophobic.

How is it homophobia if I don't support it? They can continue their lives like they want to but I just don't support it. So why is it so wrong to not support?

@@misumatchuaIt’s just odd. Do you have a reason for not supporting? (Not religion. That’s a crazy excuse to use to not support the people around you.) Why is loving someone viewed as bad in your eyes? What if it were the only way around? You’re straight-what if people hated you the way they hate queers? How would that make you feel? That your love is criticized world wide just because it isn’t seen as normal.

It is stated in The Bible that God is against homosexuality. Leviticus 18:22
"Do not practice homosexuality, having sex with another man as with a woman. It is a detestable sin."
      (NLT)
      Leviticus 20:13
"If a man practices homosexuality, having sex with another man as with a woman, both men have
committed a detestable act. They must both be put to death, for they are guilty of a capital offense."
So that is his faith and there’s no point in him being a Christian if he doesn’t believe in The Word of God. We are taught to abide by The Word and not to pick and choose what suits us.

I don't think you have any awareness about history or the realities of the world, take some time to educate yourself, because if your opinion or belief is to degrade or murder others because of their identity or personal differences that is a matter between you and your God. There is a reason why states worldwide separate from the church. I thank my God for the strength he gave to people who at some point decided that they had enough abuse and mistreatment. Thank God for civil movements and revolutions, because thanks to those acts today there is what we know as Human Rights. Which you also enjoy and protect you equally.
      John 8:7
But when they persisted in asking Him, He straightened up, and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.”.
Yet Jesus also said, “I give you a new commandment: love one another. Just as I have loved you, you must also love one another” (John 13:34).

Because I don't see people based on what they identify as, I see them as huma beings just like me and respect them as human beings.

I like how honest Donggeun was when asked about the LGBT thing. Many people say they are fine when they are not. If they say they don't agree, there's always the risk that everyone will look down on you. In my opinion, if people don't want to hear an answer they don't want, then don't ask, because this will only create a conflict, because you will not answer according to what others want, but you will answer honestly. Anyway, thanks for the video, it was very nice.😃😉😄
