As a HUGE fan of the werewolf subgenre, I can't say enough about Dog Soldiers. One of the best werewolf films ever. This review was great! Keep up the excellent work, Gary and Iain!
whenever I'm in our families remote cottage, I dust off our VHS copy of this and Evil Dead. Makes for a great horror night every time, seeing them in that setting really amps up the spooks
Surprisingly GREAT werewolf film. As a former soldier, I loved the banter between the squad members and especially love the U.K. slang, as many Americans do. I can't seem to get enough of this gem.
Megan was initially a visitor of the Celtic werewolf family, but they very quickly spread the lycanthropy curse to her (perhaps she'd discovered their Cosby Cave full of corpses) and had her essentially enslaved, imprisoned and forbidden to leave, or something horrible would happen to her; likely they'd kill her, or literally imprison her, i.e. chain her up in the cellar or something until she starved or something. This is backed up by Megan's verbiage of "best chance of getting out" and other variations of that phrase, and the reason why Megan turned on them was the soldiers indicated that anybody who was a werewolf had to be killed, even if they were "good people, kind people", as Megan remarked (almost certainly a lie, but one told just to gauge their reactions), so her mindset was probably to embrace the violent nature of her captors in a desperate bid to keep herself alive.
So loved this review. My late cousin Tom Lockyer played Campbell, the radio operating soldier. I’m in awe of how INCREDIBLE this film is❤️ Edit: had to thank you naming the actors as so few reviewers do.
Dog Soldiers is my all time favorite werewolf movie then The Howling, Bad Moon, and last but not least An American Werewolf in London. Loved the review guys.
That’s not the only Jurassic Park reference- when one of the soldiers intended to take the jeep in the barn as their way out, and a werewolf is waiting in there behind the seat, that’s a callback to the scene where Dennis Nedry is killed by the juvenile Dilophosaurus.
Someone recommend this movie to me some years ago & I absolutely loved it. I still do I love werewolf movies as long as it's got a good story line & it's done right. I might actually but this movie
Ah! I am so happy you guys reviewed this! Awesome review! ^.^ One of my favorite films. :) Comments on the film were spot on! Gary werewolves are my favorite as well. ^.^ They have so much potential but most of the time get ruined, thus Dog Soldiers is a rare gem aha. I wonder if you have seen the TV series called Being Human (UK Version), the first 2 seasons are very clever. :) Also Howl (2015), has similar comedy beats to it. Replacing a farm house with a train though. :P
You guys are awesome i've been addicted to your presentations for a good few days now. I imagine that it would be a great time to have a pint with you both!!
1:08 - yes! I definitely saw this for the first time on the sci-fi channel way back when. I also believe it was the first werewolf/dogman type of film I ever saw at that point and to this day, it's one of my favorite horror films of all time. Love the review / your channel, I've been watching you guys for some quite time, please keep up the good work!
Gonna watch Neil Marshall's The Lair for the first time today, thought I'd watch Dog Soldier's first, haven't seen it in age's, also planning on watching The Colony "2013", an underrated gem IMO, it would make a great review.
I heard that Neil Marshall just didn’t want to try to match or be compared to the transformations in American Werewolf and The Wolfen so they went with transformation from Carnival of Souls, one of the director’s favorite films. Although Ian has a great theory of when Megan became a werewolf. It is what she says before she transforms that leads you to think she was already infected. She thought the soldiers could have beaten the family and when she realized they couldn’t she decided to let the werewolves in. She says as much so she could control the change and I have a theory it has something to do with her not eating flesh yet. I could be wrong but not about when she got infected. Yes she was working with the Ryan but that was because she was a reporter who was turned by them and thought if the soldiers would capture one she would be free because they would learn how to stop the infection or at least kill the others off so she could leave. Great Job as usual on one of my favorite movies.
Megan didn't die from the headshot, you can see a one-eyed werewolf during the climax, that's her. Those werewolves are really tough, even mid-transformation.
Great review! This is one of my all-time favorite werewolf movies! Oh, and ways to kill a werewolf: 1) silver (maybe), and 2) fire (stops the regeneration process). I missed out because one of the werewolf costumes was up for auction--I would have bought it!
Came across this vid because I was bored and thought I'd check out what some people have to say about Dog Soldiers, as it's one of my favourite movies. I don't normally do that sort of thing because people talking shit about films I love naffs me off (surprise) but it was really cool listening to people who appear to find it genuinely enjoyable in the same way that I do. Subbed to the channel and I look forward to checking out some of your other content.
Dog soldiers is so good as a werewolf movie. I don't think there's a need for a second one or a sequal. It'll forever be a film that I pick out to watch now and then. 'silver bullets and eyebrows that join in the middle!?'
My buddy and I watched this movie randomly one night and we found it pretty great. The scene where the one guy hotwires the car and flips on the lights to reveal his other buddy being eating was particularly gruesome. Simply cause the victim there had been snatched out from the house quite some time earlier . I think my friend said "that dude has been that thing's plaything for like an hour".
Wow the same guy that did the decent directed this, I love the first one, the second one was ok btw a recent werewolf movie that I quite enjoyed was Howl that came out in 2015 I think, basically it's a bunch of people trapped on a train with werewolves outside you guys should check it out for the werewolf design alone (it's really different) and overall a pretty decent movie IMO
I could never get over the fact that they build a campfire and sit around it like Boy Scouts, hard to believe real soldiers would ever do that. You also wonder that the SF team weren't equipped with silver bullets if they knew they were werewolf hunting? My theory was always that Megan was working on a way to keep her lyncanthropy in check whilst the family had embraced their animal side, that's why she didn't change until she let herself go. And you have to think that little red riding hood with a bazooka would have been a useful ally at that point? Still what I really love is that the first thing they do when they get to the house is put the kettle on, that's good skills.
For dog soldiers 2 they have to start with Cooper and what happened to him after that and maybe special unit hire him for Hunting werewolves in England or other countries!!!
saw dog soldiers 10 years ago then showed it to a friend 5 years back Fun movie...and Spoony of the Spoony experiment even talk a bit about spoony in the movie on his channel .
hay guys, I would love to see you guys review the original death race 2000 and phantom of the Paradise. that would be great. keep it up love your videos.
Apparently the plot for the sequel was that cooper was gonna be sent to a mental institution cause people didn’t believe the werewolf evidence and the werewolf was gonna be the guy from the very beginning of the first movie who would have survived and became a werewolf, so basically soldier vs werewolf in an insane asylum
It's sad that this movie never got a bigger release in America as it should. Guarantee you if it did it would be much more popular in the U.S. it had everything we love in horror. So I show it to my friends and they love it.
To me the reason they had the bones in the house was that its an in-joke along the line of a dog hiding or burying a bone to chew on it later. So those are the remaining remains that didnt crack and break under the weight and pressure of their jaws. Lol Anyway, *turn up* my boys.
THANKS GUYS ive always loved this movie your review has made my understanding of it so much better going to watch it again tonight and i am sure what you guys have said with your insight well make my enjoyment so much better cheers
I watched 10 minutes of the review, which you guys did a good job. But all the while wondering that you're revealing to many details for some people that haven't seen the movie.
Caught this on the syfy channel a while ago. I expected a shitty syfy tv movie but no, it was a blast. You root for such great characters and it's such a fun movie.
I really love the part when they're out in the woods, but when it turns into a siege film - it gets kinda boring, and loses all the steam, for me. Marshall really nailed it with The Descent though, that movie's amazing.
this is a fine fine film. only one complaint, no tails. and i am very picky about my werewolf films, i only like 3. amercian werewolf in london, dog soldiers, oh my..... and .. Howling III: The Marsupials, because its so out of the box schlock. ... long live the schlock.
Great review guys. Could you make a review of the following films What Lies Beneath 2000 When A Stranger Calls 2006 Whiteout 2009 In The Tall Grass 2019 Company Of Wolves 1984
Dog soldiers can not really have a sequel as what sells this movie is the characters and relationships 27:53 No she is one of the werewolves hunting them...its the one with one eye
As a HUGE fan of the werewolf subgenre, I can't say enough about Dog Soldiers. One of the best werewolf films ever. This review was great! Keep up the excellent work, Gary and Iain!
I remember this was on Syfy (then SciFi) a lot, and I watched it every time. It's an awesome movie, and the soundtrack is gorgeous.
whenever I'm in our families remote cottage, I dust off our VHS copy of this and Evil Dead. Makes for a great horror night every time, seeing them in that setting really amps up the spooks
Dog soldiers and the howling are claws down the best werewolf movies ever. Spoonie was the mvp of that movie and my favorite character!
One of the best werewolf movies ever! As always, great job with the review guys.

My question is, can the werewolves decide when they turn?
Yep. That is in women's nature. That is the scary part of the movie. See comment if u get time.
Oh hell yeah! Classic B movie.
Saw this one on TV as a teen during a family vacation in a woodsy mountain area. I was a bit spooked :P
I always love your videos, but that earthworm Jim cow launch edit into the cow landing... Brilliant
Finally a Dog Soldiers review thank you!
Christian Cole top film
You guys are awesome! Ian made me laugh out loud with his introduction! You always review my favorite movies. Keep up the great work!
holy shit davos was in dog soilders?
mind=blown
So loved this review. My late cousin Tom Lockyer played Campbell, the radio operating soldier. I’m in awe of how INCREDIBLE this film is❤️ Edit: had to thank you naming the actors as so few reviewers do.
The synopsis for Dog Soldiers? It's a modern day Rorke's Drift just replace the Zulu warriors with werewolves. AND it is GLORIOUS!!!!
I've got soul but I'm not a soldier,
I've got ham but I'm not a hamster...
Oh man I fucking love this movie
Dog Soldiers is my all time favorite werewolf movie then The Howling, Bad Moon, and last but not least An American Werewolf in London. Loved the review guys.
This is a film that makes impressionable 16 yr olds think they can make a film. I love it!
"Clever Girl" Reference to the first Jurassic Park Velerciraptor scene where the Hunter discovers they hunt as a pack . . . well done :)
M. M. E. Blair well spotted
That’s not the only Jurassic Park reference- when one of the soldiers intended to take the jeep in the barn as their way out, and a werewolf is waiting in there behind the seat, that’s a callback to the scene where Dennis Nedry is killed by the juvenile Dilophosaurus.
Love this so much. I agree, Dog Soldiers should stand alone, no sequels. Go Sarge!
8:16 as a former soldier myself believe me you can check your rifle and oil it up but these bloody SA80 rifles we used would always jam.
The gun jamming is an MP5
great review guys. Would love you to a review of one of my all time favourites, John Borman's Excalibur 1981 would really appreciate it, thanks
Someone recommend this movie to me some years ago & I absolutely loved it. I still do I love werewolf movies as long as it's got a good story line & it's done right. I might actually but this movie

This film tho, freakin love it.
Great review of one of the best werewolf movies out there. I wonder what they could've done with a sequel, but yeah, it's just a superb flick.
This has to be.
BY FAR!
My favorite modern werewolf movie! This is so damn awesome!
Cold pizza & Off the Shelf reviews for me before gioing bed at half ten in the morning! ahh, the good life! Yippee!
Gonna watch Neil Marshall's The Lair for the first time today, thought I'd watch Dog Soldier's first, haven't seen it in age's, also planning on watching The Colony "2013", an underrated gem IMO, it would make a great review.
holy shit 2002 damn i remember the box art for it at Hollywood video
This is such a massively underrated film, seen it many times and will definitely watch it in the future!
Reconized the voice of cooper within the first sentence he spoke in the movie. Soap McTavish from mw2

There are 6 wolves . Five are in the picture and then there is Megan who took the picture. That's 6 guys . What a fantastic Film ☺️

I completely didn't think of it that way until I read your comment. That would be a horrible way to go...

You mentioned The Company of Wolves a couple of times. Are you ever planning on reviewing that?
Can't recall if I've seen this one... so many horror flicks, so little memory left...
Alexa Extraordinaire watch it, it’s great 😊
You can watch it for free on TH-cam 😏
If you can't remember you didn't see it.
Remember seeing the movie on the Sci Fi channel, then got the dvd soon after.
This is pretty much a very underrated movie. Well done, guys. :)
This is one of my favorite werewolf movies!
I remember watching this with my dad, when I was younger
Scared the hell out of me back then
This is one of the only werewolf movies that I haven't got around to see but always wanted to see
You guys should review Invaders from mars. Directed by Tobe Hooper written by Dan O'bannon and starring James Karen. Underrated 80s movie
I could never get over the fact that they build a campfire and sit around it like Boy Scouts, hard to believe real soldiers would ever do that. maccrawinthejaw I was waiting all these years for a sequel, but it seems it will never happen.
Interesting thing about the pork, because human meat has been referred to as 'long pork' by Polynesian cannibals due to their similarities.
A very underrated and badass film. I've rewatched it so many times, it never gets old.
Awwwww you mentioned Company of Wolves... Twice ❤️ 🤣
For dog soldiers 2 they have to start with Cooper and what happened to him after that and maybe special unit hire him for Hunting werewolves in England or other countries!!!
Great review, I'm just rewatching my favorites jeje Love from Spain!
Damn it Ian! You gave me the shits!
saw dog soldiers 10 years ago then showed it to a friend 5 years back Fun movie...and Spoony of the Spoony experiment even talk a bit about spoony in the movie on his channel .
OMG YES! I love this movie :P
Are we not going to talk about how Bruce Campbell gets impaled by a tree specifically as an homage to Evil Dead?
The British Military rifles are notorious for Jamming guys.
I had not heard of this movie before but thanks to your review I plan to watch it! I love your channel thank you very much
hay guys, I would love to see you guys review the original death race 2000 and phantom of the Paradise. that would be great. keep it up love your videos.

If there was a sequel, it wouldn't make sense when you find out the werewolfs are just the family.
Besides you know it would be shit and uncreative.
YOU GUYS NEED TO DO ONE ABOUT THE HOWLING
th-cam.com/video/TB1nzPLb7vo/w-d-xo.html :D

What Lies Beneath 2000
When A Stranger Calls 2006
Whiteout 2009

Company Of Wolves 1984
She's the Wolf with 1 eye in the end where she got shot
After Americans werewolf in London this is the best especially on the budget
Classic! keep up the good work chaps
Wo-ho! My favorite movie!
Still England won 5-1 and it gave us some hope for 2002
3:08 I disagree regarding Liam Cunningham's performance, i thought he did really well
I had trouble liking his character in Game of Thrones because he's such a bastard in this film.
if you like dog soldiers I would highley recomend deathwatch.
I had no idea this had zombies! Wish they changed the title, cause when I hear the title Dog Soldiers, it sounds like a war movie.
that stew tastes like . . special ops
This is a B-movie that fully brings its A-game!
Dog soldiers can not really have a sequel as what sells this movie is the characters and relationships
27:53 No she is one of the werewolves hunting them...its the one with one eye
How about Centurion guys? Gladitator-lite with michael fassbender
