    He had to ask who we signed. I've been saying for years that the only reason spurs and upwards are regularly discussed on off the ball is because they have no idea what happens outside of the top 4 or 5 clubs. Probably fewer of the listeners care. The fact that Joe Molloy asked this question confirms why I listen to Dan Bardell (among others) and not off the ball when it comes to football.

      @@turnpiketumbler8938 I thought that question was amusing in it's ignorance. As I've said elsewhere in this thread, I've been told that a contributor to this show predicted spurs to win the title. Regarding Mings, I personally think stripping the captaincy was the best thing for Mings.
    Does anyone genuinely see Mings taking us forward?
    Does Gerrard have a higher standard than what our players are used to? Gerrard will stand by his decisions and his comments. Villa as a team are still a huge work in progress and I do think we have a lot of players in the squad that arent good enough in the overall grand scheme of things.
    Agree with Dan, we need a cup win and a high finish. Anything under 12th is unacceptable, its far too early to panic and start booing. We need another 2-3 marquee signings this season to really make a statement and show we're a team to be tKen seriously

      Deano did wonders with what he had to work with - once you start changing styles you're asking for trouble when using those same players that created miracles and a lot of those miracles were down to Deano and the respect the players had for him.

    • @AdamAVFC90
      @AdamAVFC90 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jimwhiteing3437 I have to disagree, a lot of fans put sentiment ahead of sense when talking about Smith. But I think most of Smith's success was down to how good Grealish was. I mean if you've got Jack Grealish and Tammy Abraham in your team in the Championship and can't get promoted there's something seriously wrong, they were the best 2 players in that league.
      The miracles were down to Grealish dragging the side kicking and screaming into the league and then keeping us there. Our first season's recruitment was nothing short of terrible, hence why Suso was sacked.
      Don't get me wrong i've got love for Smith just like any other Villa fan, but results showed without Grealish either in the Prem or Championship, we were poor

    Dan spoke my feelings as a Villan perfectly. I'm annoyed at Gerrard's treatment of Mings, and that's irrespective of whether I want him in the lineup or not.
    Also I'm not sure this host has quite got an understanding of how bloody good our squad is. We should absolutely be getting top 10, that's not delusion at all. Ask any La Liga or Ligue 1 fan about Diego Carlos or Boubacar Kamara, we just brought in two top footballers. Gerrard isn't getting the best out of this squad.

      Couldn't agree more. Reverse 12 months - what did we all say we needed? Top quality centre back and a top quality holding mid. We've got both, and one is proven CL quality. We've got the talent we need - fully expect an improvement and top 10 finish. Really don't think that's unreasonable. Top 6? That's a push. Top 10 is very realistic.

    IMO the Mings issue is being poorly managed by SG. The change announced late IMO, why wasn't the captaincy changed on tour 🤨
    So ok timing isn't great...but then to bench Mings AND to publicly call him out is really poor - or maybe SG is trying to make him angry so he'll respond. It just doesn't sit well with me. Mings has been a good servant to the club, a great ambassador so there is one thing I'd say to Mings IF is having a hard time losing the band and with being dropped; suck it up and prove SG and naysayers wrong, everyone loves a comeback kid 😉

There is no threat from the villa midfield if the likes of McGinn and Ramsey are having to cover . Gerrard is just throwing his weight about for no reason,, he is a novice who will be found out this season. I didnt want him there in the first place with his Liverpool connection. He is a big time charlie who thinks Villa is just a stepping stone on his way to Liverpool. If he fails and has to go,, Purslowe should go with him. He should never have brought in Gerrard.

    • @nigelfranklin4752
      @nigelfranklin4752 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      But Bardell loves Mings and Watkins. The bloke is sadly a typical Villa fan these days. Has his opinions given to him by the media but believes that they are his opinions. As fickle as O'leary said they are sadly.
      No mention from Villa fans Gerrard's comment but after the media started chirping about it, the backlash happened. A chorus of woke millennials taking the side of Mings based on knowing what? The manager said something that might hurt his feelings? Bardell for me typifies the modern Villa fan. Knows nothing but it's the manager's fault because talksport said so. He isn't a fan! He's a customer who blindly consumes football while his opinions are handed to him. If he ever had an original thought, he may never recover from it!
      Villa fans can't work out why we have been under performing for years, Had great players, managers and owners but never seems to work out does it? Sadly the fanbase are yet to work out that they are the problem because the media didn't tell them that yet! The fanbase is more and more schizophrenic every season and less knowledgeable meaning that Villa park is a nervy place to play your football. And while that remains, we will underperform. and sadly its only getting worse thanks to Bardell and his ilk.

Is he unsettling the dressing room by any chance? Gerrard has hinted that Mings' attitude isn't all that it appears. Bardell backs Tyrone regardless, will probably call his next rabbit Tyrone(be it breathing or vibrating).

    Proper Villan Dan. We know you're solid. But I disagree with you on this one regarding Mings... We've won Naff All since 96 as you stated.. Because we've been a soft touch with no constant fight. We've always been an 'in patches' kinda team.
    Ming's is being yakked about by SG because the press are asking him questions that he answers honestly and brutally. Something that sentimentalists don't like to hear..
    SG ain't fiddle farting about with sentiment. He's here to be ruthless if we TRULY want to shake off that 'Also Ran' label that we've had for decades.
    Mings is about as much a leader as Noddy is. A leader leads by example. I personally think that he's a negative player. Yes very eloquent and decent human being, but he's a mid table player all day long compared to the high calibre position that SG is setting his stall out to achieve.
    Mings pointing all over the pitch means nothing when it's followed by mistake after mistake.. That's clearly noticed by the manager.
    Yes plenty of mistakes in many players but we're discussing Mings today. It's clear as day to me that he's finished at Villa. SG gave him time enough to pull his finger out but he hasn't .. Top teams don't wait forever. Top managers are brutal.
    I'm 100% behind the manager. Mings deserves the bench. Luiz next.
    I love Villa more than any one player. #vtid

Probably need to see a top class central defender in the team for supporters to realise this.
