Escapes have never been a warranty issue for Ford. If things were this bad then I am sure one of the eight family members I have that drive Escapes would have experienced a problem by now. @@nolan_schnoo incorrect.
      An engine wears out through use. Forced induction increases the RPMs, which causes premature wear and tear on the vehicle.
      Measuring how long an engine lasts is typically represented through mileage...but we all know that we should ask why kind of mileage it is. Highway mileage typically is at lower RPMs, whereas city mileage is at higher RPMs. A turbo increasing RPMs causes more rotations per mile, if you think about it.

    • @JordanP6885
      @JordanP6885 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Logan Hankins forced induction does not cause higher RPMs. Turbos increase the efficiency of an engine by increasing the oxygen, allowing for more horsepower at the same RPMs as a non turbocharged engine.

Plenty of my other mates drive WRXs and they definitely guzzle fuel, more than other cars in the same category, same oil burning issues in them as well, no idea what Subaru does to achieve it, it used to be poor piston ring design, not sure if that is still the case.

    I leased a 2018 Focus with the 1.5 in it and I started having issues at about 28,000 miles or so. The PCM went then, took them 6 weeks to get another and then replace it. At 31,000 miles or so, it lost both the PCM that they just replaced as well as the BCM. When I got it back, the thing ran awful so I was only a month off going back to the dealer anyway so I gave it back to them. It had electrical gremlins all over the place, headlights wouldn't turn off, one would turn on, the other would go off, etc. It was a nightmare. To be honest, as someone who once owned several Fords, I haven't seen a new Ford that I would want to own because of the issues and service.

    The grill open/close system is more for engine temp than gas mileage. Those engines are so small they need help heating up in cold climates. They work really well. My 3.5 v6 produces heat twice as fast as my 5.4 v8 did. It also helps protect the engine by quickly getting it to operating temp.

    • @namvet_13e
      @namvet_13e 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My new (2022) Ford Edge has the grill shutters. They may help in very cold weather but the engine still has a thermostat in the coolant system to keep the engine at the proper temperature. The benefit claimed for the shutters is less aerodynamic drag at high speed in cold weather. It is just another complication caused by regulations. How often did the owner get his oil changed on the old engine. The publicized intervals by Ford are way too long. All the automakers are publishing long oil change intervals but the fuel dilution on boosted gdi engines will cause damage if the oil is not changed earlier.

    I generally go along with Scotty but don't know of any respectable mechanics who would automatically assume the head and its components need to be replaced when the problem is with the shortblock. Would just check it out and reinstall with a new head gasket if no issues noted. Other than for a crack, even if any problems with a head are found , such as burnt valves or warpage, it's generally repairable, at a cost much less than for a replacement. Run, don't walk from a shop pushing for unnecessary parts replacement when its coming out of your pocket, nor expect unnecessary replacements under warranty. It was stupid to not at least install a new timing belt and to not realize it was likely off by one tooth - which is an easy mistake - due to the resulting drivability issues, assuming the vehicle was actually road-tested . A reputable shop would take care of that immediately.

The new LT V8s were garbage and ate camshafts until they allowed you to remove active fuel management. Time will tell on the turbo 4 they offer in the Silverado but I'm not confident it will hold up. But aside from that garbage, GM can make an engine. That isn't the problem... the rest of the vehicle is cheap plastic garbage. I was working on an old Suburban with the Vortec 350.... GM decided to give the thing a plastic distributor body.... so the screw holes on the distributor crumble apart every time you had to change the rotor and cap. GM uses the cheapest possible plastic everywere and the vehicle disintigrates around the powertrain. Most mechanics will tell you the same thing after working on tons of them. It's not a matter of "your reality vs my reality".. There's only one reality.

    The 3.5 Ecoboost engine used in the F150 has an EXTERNAL water pump. It doesn't cost a fortune to replace and if it fails it doesn't put coolant in the oil.
    Just so you know, in that application, the water pump is not internal.
