    Thank you so much. Living in a small town I was not able to get any research experience, so I went ahead and got my masters in order to gain some experience and I worried that this was not enough. But after watching your video, I am more confident now moving forward. Thanks again.

    Man I wasted like a year trying to get something published, and stuff didn't went quite well with the professor I was working with before as a Visiting Researcher. So, I just got 1 paper out of it along with one another paper which was unfortunately retracted by the professor.

    Great overview, Dr. Barr. A quick question for you: how would this advice measure up for someone from a non-traditional application background? I've been out of school for 7 years and want to go back to school to become a professional researcher for various reasons and am gearing up for the next application cycle

    • @TheAdmitLab
      @TheAdmitLab  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you for your comment! Great question. In my opinion, coming from a non-traditional background can actually work in your favor. Any aspect of your profile that makes you stand out from other applicants can be a real strength. The key is to highlight how your unique skills and experiences will enhance your target program. Since you've been out of school for a while, focus on how your professional journey has given you valuable insights, leadership, or practical experience that will make you a strong researcher. It’s all about showing the admissions committee how your background brings something different to the table. Good luck with your applications!

    I am post graduated in software engineering. I graduated in last year with distinction from DMU Leicester. I want to purse phd in software engineering. I have good score in academics. but I have one year gap. Does it matters?. I don’t have any research experience. But I wish to do PhD, could someone guide me?

    • @TheAdmitLab
      @TheAdmitLab  11 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Congrats on graduating with distinction! A one-year gap isn’t an issue if you can explain it productively. While research experience helps, you can start now-assist professors, pursue research internships, or work on independent projects. Focus on your strengths, interests, and passion in your application. Best of luck!

    Does the committee read our resumes or cv? I’ve been rejected numerous times. I work as a certifying scientist in toxicology which means I analyze, interpret and report data. The tox PhD program I applied to interpreted that and told me I operate lab equipment. I work remotely. I have no access to laboratory equipment or instruments. I have no undergraduate research experience because I had to work full time as a single parent. How do I make a committee understand that I’m capable based on my professional experience in this industry?

    Hello,
    A biotechnology undergrad graduate from Bangladesh.
    Fortunately, I've a good result that's in 93rd percentile.
    I had my dissertation thesis in bachelor's and worked in the lab for 1 year+.
    I did internship in a renowned Bangladeshi research center but unfortunately they used to keep many things confidential. For eg I was allowed to work as they instruct - do the PCR using this protocol but I had no idea for what gene they're doing so. In that case, can I include it in research experience? If so, how to say it in SOP?

    • @TheAdmitLab
      @TheAdmitLab  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, you can include it in your research experience. In your SOP, mention the skills you developed (e.g., PCR, lab techniques) without focusing on the confidentiality. Emphasize your hands-on experience, problem-solving abilities, and adaptability in following protocols to achieve research objectives.

    Hi! I’m currently considering applying for a PhD program for the coming Fall 2025 semester. Although I do have ongoing research experience, how much does my application get impacted if I don’t have a paper published?

    • @TheAdmitLab

      I would not worry about it. Admissions committees do not expect applicants to have publications.

    Thank you Dr. This will help alot. I have a Diploma in Graphic and Web design where i undertook modules like, information technology, HTML basic, etc. I went further to take a bachelor's degree in Human resource management and i have over 4years experience now in HR & Admin. I have a GPA of 3.55 and i intend to advance my studies in a PHD in AI or Cybersecurity without a masters degree. I did a research during my first degree. Now i have a TH-cam channel, and have been taking online courses in Programming, AI and Cybersecurity but it looks like, since i don't have the prerequisite i can't transition into it. Meanwhile i am very passionate about the course. What do you suggest please?

    Hi sir, thank you for the informative video. Is it a must to get a supervisor before applying a phd program in USA? If one gets a PhD admission letter in USA public university, does it guarantee its tuition free?

    • @TheAdmitLab
      @TheAdmitLab  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It really depends on the program. If it is not part of the requirements you could apply without commitment form a supervisor. Full-funding is common in the U.S. but it might vary. It’s best to check with each program.

    Hello, i have recently completed my masters in Computer science. I am thinking of applying to various funded positions however, i don't have any publication as of now because i am currently working on writing a research paper based on my masters thesis. Should i start applying now or wait till my paper gets published (its gonna take at least 6 months).

    • @TheAdmitLab
      @TheAdmitLab  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would not wait. Publications are not required per se, but look good nonetheless on a resume. In this specific situation, listing your publication as « submitted for publication » would carry the same weight.

    hello I am planning my application for spring 2025 and I do not have any research experience
    I just have around 3 years of corporate experience in same domain I'm planning my phd in
    and a masters degree with good GPA
    I am an international student I am just confused if and at all I'll be able to get in
    and should I target universities with 10-20% acceptance rate or ones with higher acceptance rates

    • @TheAdmitLab
      @TheAdmitLab  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The master’s should confirm to the adcoms that you are able to be successful in a graduate program. However, since you have been out of school for a while, I would take extra care to write the best SOP possible. As far as school selection, I always suggest picking a list of schools from different tiers to make sure you go through the application process successfully.

I have strong coursework and good therotical foundation in fluid mechanics and thermodynamics, but i dont have any research experience in this field. The institute i have studied lacks, oppurtunity for aerospace or related projects. I do have project experience but in industrial engineering, thats the only oppurtunity i got. Since i have Bachelors in mechanical Engineering can i apply for phd in aerospace engineering?

      I woud have to know a little bit more about your profile to provide you with an accurate opinion. It would really depend on the requirements of your target program. Research experience IS transferable at this stage, so you could definitely leverage the reseach you have already conducted to demonstrate skills.
