Timișoara (in Latin Timisvaria; in Hungarian Temesvár; in German Temeschwar, alternatively Temeschburg or Temeswar; in Serbian Темишвар, with Latin alphabet: Temišvar) is the municipality of residence of Timiș County, Banat, Romania. It is located in western Romania, close to the borders with Hungary and Serbia, on the banks of the river Bega.
Șag is a commune in Timiș County, Banat, Romania, consisting only of the village of residence of the same name. The majority of the inhabitants are Romanians (82.98%). The main minorities are Hungarians (9.01%) and Germans (1.96%). For 4.12% of the population, ethnicity is unknown. From a confessional point of view, most of the inhabitants are Orthodox (75.34%), but there are also minorities of Roman Catholics (13.19%), Pentecostals (3.12%) and Greek Catholics (1.06%). For 4.32% of the population, the confessional affiliation is not known.
The town of Jebel was documented, for the first time in 1334, in the records of the papal tithe from 1332 to 1337, being mentioned under the name of Zephel. In 1425 the locality received the right to organize fairs, and on the water of Timiș there were several mills. At the same time, a castle built in the forest, belonging to the nobleman Nicolae Treutel, appears in documents. A well-known and learned Turk, Evliya Celebi, in 1660, going to Ciacova, passed through Jebel, together with Ali, the pasha of Timișoara and noted: "Chebel is a locality inhabited by Romanian Christians, as are all the villages in Banat." In the chamber census of 1717, it appears with 200 houses, as one of the largest villages in Banat. Jebelul has had a Post Office since 1761.
The life of the village is slowly shortening, but also with troubles. The First World War begins on July 28, 1914, and ends on November 1, 1918. The inhabitants of this plain village also paid a blood tribute - 138 dead and missing. On the occasion of the Great National Assembly in Alba-Iulia, on December 1, 1918, the enthusiasm of the Jebelians is indescribable, but the locality did not have delegates to the Assembly. On September 1, 1939, the second world massacre begins, ending on May 9, 1945, also taking the blood tribute - 30 dead. On September 19, 1939, the Romanian-Yugoslav negotiations on the creation of a bloc of neutrals in the Balkans and Central Europe took place. The talks took place in a diplomatic car, in Jebel station, between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Grigore Gafencu and his Yugoslav counterpart, Cimcear Markovic.
Simion Gărău and Nicolae Graure, former singers of the pew of the church in Jebel, noted, at the end of "Mineiului" on September, that on September 18, at 8 am, in 1944, the commune was occupied by the Germans . After three days they left, returning on September 22, at 6 o'clock in the evening, and left on September 23, at 4 o'clock in the afternoon.
According to a Directive given in 1951, deportations were made to Bărăgan. The area of dislocation of elements that were dangerous or could become dangerous for the communist regime did not include Jebel, because it was more than 25 km away from the border with Yugoslavia. However, the Jebels did not escape persecution either. Several young people from wealthy families were taken to work in the coal mines of Anina and Lupeni during the military service, namely: Ioan Bociu, Ion Codobei, Ion Ionescu, Octavian Loichiță, Petru Malinovski, Aurel Oală, Ionel Pascu and Traian Vatriș. In the December 1989 Revolution, a 23-year-old local man named Radian Belici lost his life. He was shot in the 700 Square area of Timisoara. His body, along with other victims, was secretly taken to Bucharest and burned at the Cenușa crematorium. Their ashes were dumped in the city's sewers.
