Jason Lanier I am always amazed how well you direct your models and the rapport you seem to develop so quickly. You have an amazing talent for knowing exactly what will look great and directing your models, firm but kind. I love watching you work with models.

    Outlandish !!!!!!!!
The model is a knock-out and the shots are superb.

That 50mm f1.7 is a great lens for the money. I helped my aunt shoot her daughter's college graduation pictures with the same lens and got great results. Will be printing and framing some of them. Thanks Jason!

hi Jason, love your channel! i shoot with a7ii and bunch of minolta lenses including beercan, loved the 50/1.7 now i have minolta 50/1.4. i also bought the 50/1.8f sony just because i wanted to have eye af and AF illuminator. maybe its the cheap sony lens but eye af works only in studio shots where object is static and light is controlled. so i am using minolta when i know eye af will not be effective. do you use the eye af out in field a lot? would i gain a lot if i invest in expensive sony lenses?

Jason. I don't understand why you don't you look through the viewfinder? How do you know the parts you want in focus are in focus? what about back focusing? or How do you know if you're lines are straight in some situations? Just curious.

Love your stuff and I look forward to more. I did notice that you are using a manual focus lens yet I didn't see you actually focus it even one time. Did you cut that part out so as to not slow down the video? (Just wondering)

Minolta is an old school Sony. The lens he used is Minolta AF 50 1.7. It's a Sony A-mount. It will AF with Sony adapter.

    • @AlejandroRVfoto

the AF on Maxxum series are amazingly fast with LA4 adapter even on first Sony A7 series ;)

  • @rolli389

Do you think now that used A mount lenses are becoming so cheap online due to the introduction of E-mount cameras, they are better value than the e-mount lenses. Should I buy the LA-EA4 adapter and use a-mount Sony/Minolta lenses instead of buying the E-mounts at their quite high price? Lastly, do you think the E-mount lenses or A-mount lenses shoot better rigardless of age. Thanks +Jason Lanier

The only caveat to this is that older lenses do not have the latest technology coatings which control flare and ghosts, and mechanical drive focus does use slightly more power.
Having said that, old Minolta lenses are often suburb in build and quality both optically and mechanically. Being mostly metal shelled, they are significantly heavier, but so are professional lenses today. Anther to note is that latest lenses made for latest camera are smart lenses that are made cheaper with optical flaws in consumer range line up. The flaws are automatically corrected in the camera for things like distortion and aberrations, so they are matched up with the respective combinations. Older lenses are straight shot and are not corrected, but are generally made nice enough to not have many of the optical flaws at all. I use both modern lenses and older Minolta, and the difference isn't really apparent unless the lenses are dedicated for a very specific task. Sports/wildlife super telephoto lenses at pro level are much nicer today due to advanced vibration reduction, and ultra-fast focus lock that work electronically with the camera's automation. But for most other general uses, you'd be hard pressed to see any differences if at all. And for either case, it is really much more up to the photographer's skills and experience to make each lens work for the task. I'd say get the LA-EA4 and start collecting many of the old Minolta Maxxum lenses which are really gems of the hobby for Sony E mount owners, as you will ALWAYS have use for them for a long time to come.

Bha-ha! My buddy said, "If that girl ironed my shirt and made me a sandwich I'd give her my WHOLE paycheck!" I guess that's how a non-photographer says, "Great lighting, theme, composition and execution." Yea! That's what he meant!

Jason. Minolta lenses are amongst the best in the world. They made lenses for Leica and focusing screens for Hassleblad and most importantly invented the auto focus system. You sound really surprised about the quality. Please Minolta are one of the most important photographic companies in the world.

Dude your pictures are great and I respect your work but.....
Doctors don't introduce themselves as doctors. I think it's amazing you're a Sony artisan but can you not just call yourself Jason?
Also...try to lift the camera and look interested. As a Sony artisan you could try to adopt a little professionalism when making videos. Holding the camera waist high and clicking just looks sloppy. It might be your technique but people learn from you. Use it don't abuse it
