      I've never assigned special meaning to years or birthdays or whatever ever since I was a young kid. I think when I was very young I might have but I definitely remember when people asked how it felt to be X years old saying that it feels the same as yesterday.

      I feel the same way. Even though, this is the first year I’m ever forming goals. For example, losing weight and getting an autism/ADHD. But, I honestly don’t think things will be any different.

    Last year I put out my abusive husband, found a new friend group, made a bff and left 27lbs in 2024. This year is gonna be even more fire than last. I am halfway through my winter arc and I can’t wait to debut my fine new self in the spring 😊

    I hit a personal milestone on December 30th. I was exhausted on the 31st & went to bed early. And now I’m ready to get back at it. Happy New Year!

    My goals are to finish this school year with at least 8.5, get enough money to pay for my drivers licence and my first car, work on my communication skills, go to the gym at least 3x a week and go to sleep before midnight.

    A few months ago fornthe first time, my brain broke and started tailspinning into a nonstop looping cycle of anxiety followed by depression. So much distorted thinking which was at odds with what I knew rationally. I think everyone I know hates me, I'm a drag on them, I negatively load every single nuance within an interaction that only serves the distorted thinking. Ive been in denial for so long about the things I want out of life, and when I reach for it, everything breaks. All I want this year is to find myself again, connect with people, and stop the push/pull cycle of self-isolation and anxious desperation.

      Those are good goals. Have you learnt what attachment style you have? You sound as though you may be fearful-avoidant -- converting to a secure attachment style and shadow integration can help. Best of luck to you.

    Great video Ana! My most important goals for 2025 are 1) spending less time on social media and on my phone in general, because I know its going to help me be more productive (learn more for University and read more books for example) and procrastinate less, and 2) to get more sleep. I would also like to start journaling and do some work on my sense of self-worth.

    today is my birthday , it being a day after the new year means i dont have to set new goals for both new years and my bday.     Thanks for this Ana! My resolution is to draw for 30 minutes every day to develop discipline as an artist. I’ve struggled with waiting until inspiration hits but I can’t keep waiting around

    6 pack. I was so close last year. So get down to around 140, keep hitting the gym and hardest of all keep on the diet.
    Get over her. It's been long enough. Can't change what happened, just learn and move on.
    Don't drink. This is more a life goal that I will eventually achieve but I will try and set it for 2025

    Dr. Ana, I just wanted to let you know that I used your video to inspire me for my 2025 goal setting. I decided to set it up a bit differently this year and instead set smaller incremental goals for each month. I gave myself one focus goal for each month and then allowed me to have room for additional goals for each month if my primary goal was too easy. I also set a few "year-long" goals for bigger things like weight loss and financial savings. Finally, I made a "bank of goals" in categories of career, self-improvement, leisure, and health from your suggestions so that I never run out of ideas. I am looking forward to a productive 2025!

    Many thanks for the tips. I appreciate your grounded approaches as always. As for my personal goals, my main one would be to put more focus on expressing myself creatively, as well as to get back to practicing daily and putting the effort in even when I don't feel like it or am unsatisfied with the result. Also be less of a perfectionist, the number one reason I stop myself from showing my work publicly, despite being surrounded by people who have been nothing but supportive. My harsh self-criticisms and high expectations have held me back for far too long now.

    my goal is to get a 4.0 average for at least one college quarter this year. i already broke it with a 3.98 last quarter (i’m a freshman), but i’m really proud because i did manage a 4.0 in political theory and got a 99 on my final paper in the class that lowered my gpa. it was just a harsh scale and that’s okay, there’s always next quarter.
    thank you for coming to my ted talk, i would also like to eat better so my tummy doesn’t hurt 😂

    Thanks for posting this, Ana. I have some very ambitious goals, and I know that I am capable of achieving them, but my lack of self discipline constantly sabotages me. I am going to follow the methods you outlined in the video and make it happen for me this year. Wish me luck!

      I recently read atomic habits and it is awesome at helping you achieve your goals WITHOUT relying on discipline - the idea is to create a system for yourself where it is made incredibly easy and rewarding to do the right thing and very hard and unsatisfying to do the wrong thing - discipline shouldn’t even factor into the equation. I definitely recommend you read it if you haven’t already, it is suuuper popular so I wouldn’t be surprised if you already have! Good luck with your goals, you can do it!!

    Thank you Ana. My resolution is to work on my assertiveness and be better with setting up my boundaries which is working really well and I'm really shocked how powerful it is, because I've always had an issue with that. Just today I ended up a relation with my friend who really helped me a lot through 2024 but I think we just weren't a good match. I'm shockingly grateful that she appeared in my life and I'm really glad that I came across your video where you were saying that not every friendship is forever.

    Hiii, this fresh new year I am going to invest time in my freelance artist career and create a portfolio website to show potential clients. My values behind it are indepence, growth & freedom (i get to chose when, where and how much to work + i don't have to put up with toxic work environments). It will also mean I get to create art more often & explore my relationship with it more in depth.     I love your channel, I subscribe to it. What you said about making it easier to accomplish goals by creating routines and preparation is really good. As a simple example, I will give the example of washing, drying and putting away clothes. I established a routine of doing it on Mondays. I don't even think about it or blame myself for it on other days. The mental energy that freed me was immense. Everything to do with laundry and even mending clothes is a Monday affair. If anyone is reading this: start small, but rely on consistent habits that free up mental space and time. In the future I hope to be able to extend this mentality to other aspects of my life. Thanks for the video.

      That’s an excellent tip, laundry is my biggest chore hurdle and end up wasting so much time procrastinating laundry and watching videos while I do so that I just end up prolonging laundry even longer, this sounds like it might really work for me - thanks for sharing 🩷

    I already achieved one goal by planning out my budget for the year. Now I need to plan my calendar. I attend a lot of conventions for which I make cosplays so the calendar will help me plan those project timelines! I'm working on a competition piece that I'm really excited about.

    Honestly my goal this year is to take care of my health and move forward with my career/ education :)) I set 10 goals this year but I think I might add few more just to make them more clear. Definitely going to implement these tips into achieving my goals tad easier- especially keeping the goal in mind everyday I think will help me a lot :D thank you and have a great 2025!

    I want to:
    Lose weight & gain muscle (I work in the trades and i should be stronger and healthier). I will work out at home and go for walks / jogs/runs when i can.
    Get more money. I need to specifically save money. I often buy stuff i shouldn't buy like expensive food or buying lunch instead of making food the day before.

    fun thing i wanted to comment on: people always tell me to declare my goals publicly (maybe not in those exact words tho lol) but then i do and it's almost like it has the opposite effect on me😭😭😭 as soon as i get done saying "yeah i been working on getting better at [insert goal or accomplishment here]" it's like any motivation or care i have to do that thing seeps away... not sure what that's about but you saying that made me think about it. either way, all the other stuff in your video is helpful! i thought a lot of this stuff on my own from experience but it's nice to be reassured that i was in the right ballpark at least. thank you for making this video! your channel and kiana docherty's channel have been helping me a lot with understanding this type of information better since i honestly have no other reference and academic reading materials can fry my brain sometimes. happy new year!

    My primary goals are to set myself up financially to finally finish my degree and follow a career path that allows me to thrive.
    I bought a house in 2019, and I'm working towards splitting it into a duplex to support myself while finishing my degree. I've been a part-time student for over a decade due to CPTSD and not knowing how to heal enough to see the life that is healthiest for me. I worked and saved into middle age, but also self-medicated while stumbling through the fog of trauma and not respecting myself when bosses would devalue me. I want to break free of that.
    Right now I'm mopping polyurethane on wood floors in this old college town house. I like fixing this place up. I want freedom from my trauma, other people's trauma, and all the negativity that keeps me from thriving. Dating someone would be nice, too, but that is a minor goal since healing comes first.

    My three most important goals of the year are to not have to retake any courses to my degree while working full time, actually start budgeting and tracking finances regarding spending and saving instead of just winging it, and for all of this to happen while not falling behind at work (reaffirming my values for balance) regarding health my goal is to get back on my weekly routine of > 3 times a week in the gym

    My goals this year are to enroll in college and speak to an advisor before the end of next week. I want to find a part time job and if I have to- shadow for experience to get said job. I also will have a side hustle to that’s a bit more passive. Overall I hope to make a minimum of $250 each month. For self improvement I wanna read a book or two each quarter minimum. I want to learn to knit or cross stitch. Stick to a daily routine that involves doing my makeup each morning and eating at set times. For leisure I want to read 2 books also each quarter that are just for fun- I want to travel at least once with family and maybe once without? ☺️ then finally for health I want to find a somatic way to heal and put alongside my regular help. Cycle sync and join a gym or club ! Cheers to 2025

    Great list, thank you. I find that I'm pretty good at achieving goals that are only dependent on my own personal actions. Where I struggle is with goals that require the involvement of other people. I became a licensed counsellor in the middle of 2024, and my goal was to have 3-4 weekly clients by the end of the year. However, despite my best efforts, I failed to find any clients, and my goal is to have a full client-load by the end of 2025, but aside from continuing to put myself out there and try different marketing strategies, I have fairly limited control. The same goes with finding a romantic partner, something I've been struggling with for years. I do all that I can to be the best possible partner, but have failed to catch the interest of any suitable women.
    So, in terms of building a sense of personal efficacy, I believe it may be best to avoid setting goals in areas like business and relationships, because in reality, we have very limited control over these areas of our lives.

    - Replace negative self talk with positive
    - Trust my own judgement more
    - Improve French and Spanish with a tutor once a week

    Put my glasses on top of my phone when I go to bed so I won"t misread the time when I wake up.

    2.Keep your goal in your mind everyday
    Identify intrinsic goals

    Ask why you wanna achieve this goal
    Remind yourself of your values everyday and journal
    3.Anticipate obstacles with "If...then"
    Review your last years goals(what you achieve and what not and find reason behind not achieving some goals)
    Film these obstacles with "if this...Then that"(if i get anxious at social settings and i wanna have more drinks, then i will start to alternate between an alcholic drink and a bottle of water)
    4.Make it a grouo effort
    Group goal might work best.
    Sharing responsibility is benefitial.
    5 Make it as easy as possible to fulfill you goal

    This year, I've decided not to focus on outcomes and instead focus on systems and habits. So every goal is based off of that. I want to workout at least 20mins a day, three times a week, as an example. I'm trusting that the process will then get me in shape and help me lose the weight. But if it doesn't, oh well. I'm sure I'll still have benefits from the habit itself.

    My goal is to not eat food with obvious added sugar or sweeteners. Because added sugar is common, even in foods like bread, this ends up being stricter for food with labels, but i don't eat out much, so this goal should cut out the bulk of sweeteners from my diet.
    I knew this would be a hard goal, so I have been practicing for the past few months. This has allowed me to develop strategies for living in this constraint, without feeling bad when I slipped up. Turns out the hardest part for me is remembering to always bring extra food to work so I can fight the temptation of the free junk snacks.

    Not related to the video (xd), but a little suggestion or idea that i would find very interesting is the psychology of music: differences between musician and non musician brains, benefits in general to the brain, etc. For example the relationship between music and math (or physics) and how can both of them complement each other. Also, why are some brain surgeries performed while the patient is playing an instrument. Personally, i would find it hugely interesting if you made a video regarding this topic.     thanks for the video. did I hear you say somewhere that you were pescatarian for ethical reasons? would you be open to doing a video about discrimination against vegans/vegetarians or other dietary choices? "It ain't easy eating greens" is one paper I know of... would be nice if you could give your thoughts, Dr. Ana!

      Ooh that’s an interesting topic! Yes I’m pescatarian cause eating meat just feels wrong to me personally, but I don’t judge people who do. The problem is, anytime I mention being pescatarian, the super intense vegans get mad at me and start calling me a murderer lol. I’ll check out the paper you mentioned, though!

    How do you know if a goal you set for yourself is "too unrealistic" instead of simply "you've not disciplined yourself enough to become able to reach that goal" instead? Like if I say "I want to have x amount of money at a certain period of time", but your current job doesn't provide enough income to reach that goal (personal expenses notwithstanding), and you struggle/don't have the skills to get another job in the meanwhile...then what?
    Or to put it in a more TLDR manner: how do you separate/distinguish between "your goals are too ambitious" and "you're thinking too small"? Especially when your goals for the future aren't as clear as you'd like (as mentioned in the video)?

I recently discovered that my partner of over a year, who seemed otherwise so grounded and loving, was in fact living a double life. It came as a shock to everyone we both know, and he treated his other girlfriend the opposite of how he treated me. I've been reading about the wives of Weinstein and Ted Bundy.
