2003 Vortec 5.3L Wiring Harness Rework Part 1

  • This will be my first video of three parts, going over the harness rework steps for a 2003 5.3L vortec engine. In part 1, I will depin unused wires from the PCM as well as identify wires that will be used in the fuse block, or connected elsewhere in the target vehicle. This process will be nearly identical for any 2003-2007 Gen 3 engine with electric throttle control, with 4L60E or 4L80E trans. For more wiring details, please visit my website, www.lt1swap.com
    Download Printable PDF Files of the pin outs I use from my website here:

    Your site has been such a huge help for so many peoples swaps, I feel like you have had a profound effect on the ls base popularity, even if they are plentiful at junkyards and reasonably priced.... They aren't any good without the electrical side which is everyones weakpoint, except yours😎. Keep up the awesome work you are doing to help the car guys out there. and thanks

    I sent an email with a question to Brandon and he got back to me, I can't believe with all he's got going on that he could actually find the time to respond. I didn't want to send an email back saying 'thanks' because it would be just another email for him to open. So I'll say it here...Thank you Brandon. I'm doing a Ls swap Miata and needed to delete the transmission wiring. My L33 5.3 aluminum block is an '05. He explained that on the pin-out for '99 - '02 he has the transmission delete highlighted in red. Same engine basically but I didn't check...lol.

My question, can I use the PCM signal wirefor the duel tanks for my second fuel pump in my Miata swap. The physical a/c request wire can be turned on in the PCM. Only PCM's that support mechanical throttle (DBC) have the necessary circuit inside the computer for this to work. 03+ pickups a/c request is a data signal over the data bus. 03+ vans used a physical wire, 12V+ signal into the computer to request ac.

The newest vehicle I owned was a 92, Chevy truck, I swapped in a 454, I just bought a 96 S15, I want to swap in a 05 or so 4.8L. Engine and trans, or would the v6 4L60 be OK? It appears that this method is for swaps in older vehicles. Im putting an LM4 into a 99 firebird. Am I correct to assume my harness would be different?

    • @LT1SWAPCOM
      @LT1SWAPCOM  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In that situation, I would find a v8 harness for a 99 f-body and it would plug in. This method could still be used to get the LM4 running, then all you have to connect between the LM4 harness and the 99 are wires for stuff like check engine, fan controls, data wires, key hot signal. The fuse block on a f-body was part of the forward lamp harness, so all the powers needed will be found in the C100, C105 connectors on the passenger inner fender and kick panel area.

    at 22:01 you mentioned that you are pulling out Oil pressure low reference Blue 63 and Blue 7 (5 volt low reference). Just wondering if this later has to be coded out so it does not send a MIL??..does PCM require to see any oil pressure signals. Thanks.

      Yes the PCM should be programmed to disable diagnostics. Any programming I do, I disable the diagnostic for the oil sending unit. Even disabled, you can still keep the sensor wired up and view oil pressure on a scan tool (2003+ only) The PCM does not have any oil pressure related safety shut down of any kind, its sole purpose was to send the oil pressure information to the instrument cluster over the data bus. You can keep this sending unit if you plan to use a factory instrument cluster, or a Dakota Digital unit with the OBD2 adapter.

    What would I do with the removed wires if I didnt mind keeping the fuse block in the engine bay? Just unpin them from the connector?

      I'd also like to know because my Bay is big enough for my Tahoe's original box and I dont mind keeping it

    Have been following you videos and its been very informative. Swapping 03 Yukon 5.3 into 69 Camaro. Stumbling block that I'm having is the Neutral Safety switch. After you cut the wires from the C2 block where do they go? If you got a minute. Also are you still flashing ECU's ?
