- The Missouri Tigers have been of the best stories from the 2023 college football season so far. They have jumped out to a 7-1 record and have a chance to make the college football playoff if a few things go their way. But how did this happen? A few years ago, the Mizzou program was in a bad spot and Eliah Drinkwitz was average at best. Today, I want to talk about the entire Mizzou story, go through their rise, what has made them so successful and how this year happened, enjoy!

This team has exceeded beyond all expectations.
Im a diehard Mizzou fan but they have totally exceeded my expectations. I expected 6 or 7 wins again and boy was i wrong. I am so happy to see how this season has gone. Even if we do not make the playoffs or make it to the SEC Championship i will be thrilled if we just finish 9-3 at least. Id love to see 10-2 or 11-1 if possible.
The math for Mizzou is really simple. Win out … and you will be playing in the SEC Championship game with a real shot of getting in the College Football Playoffs. A one loss SEC Champion will get in. Let’s Go Tigers !! MIZ ….

I was a contrarian compared to most Mizzou fans you describe. 6-7 last year but some key players opted out of the bowl and the close loses along with the recruiting battles that Drink was winning gave me optimism. Also, you failed to mention that Cook tore his right labrum in the KState game. You know, the one he throws with? He's come back healthy and has showed what he can do. Let him Cook! Drink even described the process for anyone listening: lose big, lose close, win close, win big. Between this year and last year, we are somewhere in the middle of that process but closer to the finished product than not. Big decision for Wingo this afternoon. MIZ!
I thought Lovett transferring would really hurt us but holy cow is our WR room DEEEEP, and MAYBE we get Ryan wingo tmmrw. Love how the tigers have rallied this year. We have the potential to be great
Lovett transferring was good for Mizzou. Luther is better than Lovett and was going to take his spot. Lovett knew it. His family knew it. So he transferred to GA, and has done next to nothing. Burden moved back to his natural spot of slot receiver and has been tearing it up ever since.

Just a word of advice to Mizzou fans, be realistic with your expectations.
UGA played with a half-assed effort against a 2-3 Mizzou team in 2022 in a game where they spent about 1 hour game planning for the Tigers, simply because their purpose was to get in, win a football game, and get back home and prepare for much better opponents..
This time around, they'll be less uncertainty and the game will be over by halftime..
Oh, and Lovett left Mizzou because he wanted to be developed. He has been pushed far beyond what he accomplished at Mizzou, running new route concepts, as well as learning how to block on the perimeter.
He's becoming a well-rounded wide receiver who is now better prepared to play NFL football, thanks to his move to Georgia...

You got to play with some Mizzou all time greats and the coach who put us on the map. I bet that was unfathomably cool.
You could make the argument that Lovett Leaving could turn out to be a good thing. If he stayed we would have burden, wease Jr., and Lovett starting full time. Now that he's gone it gives Marquese Johnson, and Mookie Cooper room to really shine even though they are freshman and sophmore.
Missouri has always been one of the most interesting athletic programs in the country. KC and STL churn out five star talent every year, but Mizzou has never been sexy enough for them to stay home. They have come close many times, but often lacked the elite talent to get over the hump. With NIL, that’s changing things in a hurry. Luther Burden is the case study for NIL. He stayed home, will be a Heisman candidate in 2024 (or this year) and will be a multimillionaire from his endorsements by the time he graduates.
As a Columbia resident, Im a Mizzou fan, but i never really went to alot of games... But after watching the Thicker Kicker sink a 61 yard FG, im hooked...
That Georgia game was a sort of resurgence even though the season didn’t turn out the way we wanted. As saw glimmers of hope so I’m glad to see us put those pieces together!
I know you got to be happy seeing Mizzou as one of the top teams in SEC. I hope Mizzou wins out and makes the SEC championship or at least have a 10 win season.
Mizzou also had great tight ends, and wide receivers under Gary P. which helped their passing game.
As an arkansas I kinda hate missou but I’m actually glad for some reason that they’re good this year

I’m a Mizzou but I also kind of like seeing whenever Arkansas does good as well, it makes better rivalry games
Drinkwitz was a young coach that had to do a lot of learning on the job. Thankfully he has. He finally hired an OC instead of trying to be the big shot. That's the turnaround. He can recruit. He's a leader. Just needs that big game under his belt to go from good to great like not just a threat but a favorite going forward.
Life long UNLV fan here, crazy how one coach is the reason why you guys can't get to the next level while at another program he's a complete life changer. You know your football so you already mentioned how tough it's been for UNLV so the fact that we're bowl eligible this year means more than you could know. Long story short just really happy its able to work out for both programs we root for and both coaches. Going to be rooting for you guys now 🫡
It's extremely unfortunate what happened in 2015 with the protests and everything. I think that's why Pinkel left.
He left because he has cancer
He got cancer but yeah they hurt Mizzou. Enrollment dropped and never recovered although it’s trending back up now
He retired because of cancer. He still hangs around the program
@stephenberry4405 We all heard the public reason he stated for retiring, but it'd be naive to believe that protest wasn't a big factor as well.
@@ToddRobinson13 He supported the students and team through the protests. There was more weight in the tutoring scandal though than anything. His leave definitely had more to do with cancer than anything else though.
As a NC State fan we miss Eli so much our offense hasn't been anywhere close to the same since he left other than 1 year with devin leary..

Mizzou like South Carolina and Arizona State is like a sleeping giant. They need a breakthrough. Lots of potential.

Two things concern me going into the next stretch of the season.
Up till now, we've only played two good teams - we lost to one of them, and barely beat the other one with a 61 yard field goal at the very end of the game.
The second thing that concerns me, is the run game going up against much better defenses that don't get worn down by the third quarter because their offense is good enough to keep them rested.
Other than that, I'm optimistic that we have a chance to run the table the rest of the way.

I am watching this as we are heading to a NY6 bowl with 10 wins. I will admit I was one who thought Brady Cook would be our downfall, but he has thankfully proven me wrong. I still don't think he is the most talented QB on our team, as he made mistakes in key moments in the LSU and Georgia games. But at the end of the day, he is getting results for a school that was in desperate need of a good season. I hope to see us in an even better position next year.

Overall, you're spot on how I've felt these last few years. Yes, Coach Drinkwitz definitely was on the hotseat this year to make something happen. No doubt the program is now pointed in the right direction, but there is still a lot of football left. I want to see the Tigers beat Georgia as the Bulldogs own an 11-1 win ratio, which is just sickening to me. I realize we can't always get what we want, but a nationalized TV game had better be competitive and not a blowout loss for the Tigers.

The 2020 game with LSU was supposed to be a road game @ Death Valley, however a Hurricane coming in forced the Bayou Bengals to have to change plans. Mizzou offered LSU the game @ Columbia, with LSU still the Home Team, officially. So we hosted, and didn't host.
It's about the QB ! Cook going to Manning camp boosted his confidence and if you don't have confidence you can't play QB in any division - gotta have a QB to win

I really like Drinks fit at Mizzou. I often feel like Mizzou is the redheaded step child of the SEC. And it feels like a majority of CFB views Drink as the red headed step child of coaching

Faith. One must take the middle road. Mizzou, though I love them, is as a 8-4/7-5 team masquerading as a a 10-2/9-3 team. If they continue to get 4/5 star talent they will move up to a real 10-2 team.

Though no one in the SEC wants to give Mizzou credit we are the second or third best program in the Sec east. Tennessee and Kentucky need to take a rest. Over the past 12 years neither one of them have won the SEC East.
Like it or not Mizzou is the bell weather team. If a coach can not beat Mizzou, they will be fired.

Impossible? Please. Gary Pinkel did a hell of alot more thank Drink has at Mizzou. Pinkel had them in the B12 Championship game twice, and the SEC Championship game twice. Drinkwitz hasn't even managed to win a bowl game yet.
Pinkel was on the hot seat the first couple years as well.

Mizz came into the SEC winning their division and conference after struggling in the BIG XII for years. That goes to show u how weak the SEC was outside its 4 teams (Bama, LSU, GA and UF)
