I think I’m going to do this today! I know I have things in my spring/summer clothes that I won’t wear. I always feel like I need a couple of nice white tees, but the reality is that I live on a farm, have dogs in my house, am a messy cook, and if I wear white you can count on me getting dirty within an hour. I have a white shirt that can be dressed up and down for if I’m going out, but the white tees can go. I also have a couple of brightly coloured tees that I rarely wear. I’m going to make sure I have enough black and navy tees and just stick with those for every day. I have a couple of light weight nicer shirts for going places. That’s all I realistically need. Bottoms I should be fine. For shoes, I mainly wear my vegan Birkenstock’s in summer and I have farm shoes. If I need shoes to be more dressy I have a pair of ballet flats that are fine. I also have sneakers. Yes this will be my project today! Thanks for the inspiration ♥️
I’m thrilled that you’ve researched, saved and planned out your spring wardrobe. You deserve to look and feel your best - you’re an inspiration. I suggest that you also research sustainable clothing for any upcoming clothing purchases you make. I started where you did, and I’m learning that purchasing fewer, but well thought out pieces that are made with consideration for the workers and the environment, wear longer and save me money in the end. Go you! Oh, and I love that spring like top on you. It really lifts you up.
You make me happy, I love all the different avenues you are going down in your minimalism journey. Its not just "get rid of everything", youre including things that also improve your life. I would say 85% of my wardrobe is either black or dark grey... but I also love neon, but rarely wear it. If you ever want to invest in comfortable sandals, I know this might be viewed as 'hippie', but birkenstocks are amazing and they have colors in your pallete.
PS I Love all the wardrobe tips too... because I'm no frills, outdoor kinda girl (Tom boy)...I want SIMPLICITY!! I don't like to shop or make decisions & I'm cheap... So this capsule idea has been attractive for a while. My kids gifted some capsule basics one year for my birthday...I have WORN them out. Now, I need to refresh.. 🤪 that's a little intimidating... You did a great job making your capsule & finding your colors! Idea for your black pieces; keep all the bottoms. Color analysis palettes are about what's next to your face. Jewelry & scarves, in your color are ways to wear to wear black. 🦋
I found you from Dawn, the Minimal mom. Thank you for sharing your life and journey so openly and honestly. I've been minimizing for a while. My parents were pack rats... And I knew it I didn't want to go down that path. Your bedroom video has inspired me to get some of the furniture out. We moved 4 years ago from a 3k sq ft house to 1760 sq ft. 6 kids, 20 years of homeschooling it was a JOB!! My garage looked like your present day school room used to...🤪 Also, the video about grit...I NEED that, Grit-purpose, to press in and FINISH. I've come so far, need to get over the "finish line" of everything having a place/home. I also appreciated the centralizing stuff (for you or was home schooling.) For me, it's office supplies/cards etc. I've made do and stuff was spread out because I had too much. Now, I feel motivated to keep pairing down & STREAMLINE cumbersome areas! YAY!! When you need to wear the black dress, you could add a silk scarf in one of your good colours so that it’s the scarf that is reflected on your face, rather than the black dress. A striking necklace or earrings could also mitigate the black.
Oh my goodness, black is my color. When I pack for a trip, it kills me because it’s all black and I can’t tell the darn difference between the pieces of clothing. I took the test and my recommended color theme is spring. I’m going to give this a try.
I've been following along with all the videos I've missed, because somewhere along the way I lost your posts - but now I'm belled in and won't miss a thing! Now! Onto this post - video - I hesitated on clicking in because I wondered how interesting it could be - but with your marvellous personality, sense of fun, and I think also the fascination of watching someone pull everything together - to take each step towards living intentionally - I should have known better than to doubt. So, as always, very interesting - and adore and am totally in love with your summer capsule wardrobe. It's so flattering. However, I would say the most eye-catching was at 8:49 - that lovely dusty blue shirt with the softest of soft browns with the jacket was almost shockingly flattering. (Also, a shout out to the darker blue top with longer sleeves with the lovely yellow flowers - you did a finance post wearing that and I was admiring the top and loving the colours all the way through.)
You are so sensible!! Great choices girl! I keep any seasonal clothes I pull out in a flat plastic bin under my bed, because we sometimes have weird weather, like a 65 degree day in the winter or a 30 degree day mid spring.
You look so pretty in those clothes. The clothes really bring out your natural beauty. I like you best in the cream but the Navy is so much nicer than black for you. And the sage green is perfect on you!!
You can wear black. Wear a right color scarf between a black top/vest and your face. Black trousers and skirts also go. Once you find a great piece in your colors then replace the black.
I absolutely love your channel and am always excited for your new videos. Your videos inspire me to continue to seek less. My minimalism journey has allowed me to free up time and space in my home and this fall, I have decided to use that time to begin homeschooling my 6 and 8 year old!!
I know as part of your minimal journey you are trying to clear out the crawl space along the way. You were pulling out clothes from the crawl space for spring. Do you think you could keep all your clothes in the closet to help with space? Like maybe use one of those garment bags to store out of season clothes as a group. Maybe dividers labeled by season that you can just push to the side and focus on the new season. Obviously some items will go from season to season they can just be pulled forward or back. Then no more rummaging around the crawl space too.
All those looks you showed suit you for different occasions. I am such a fan, love the way you get mad and giggle about yourself, how you picked yourself up and how thoughtfully you step into a next fase.
I am like you! Downsizing everything but just not enough actual pieces to wear. I went with the 4x4 wardrobe plan, since it gives a lot of guidance on how many of each thing you actually need. Though it doesn't include accessories, it's been so helpful! There isn't much on youtube about it but I found lots on pinterest!

Try separating your clothes by pants, skirts & tops in your closet & then by color. It makes pairing stuff even faster & your closet more attractive to your eye. Also think about investing in a Karina dress. I think the Karina brand would be perfect for you. Great content! I appreciate how you research things.

Black isn't my color either but I have found if I wear it in a V neck, like you have, showing more skin helps open it up and it doesn't seem as harsh. I still don't wear it very often but I have found I look much better in black with a V neck. May I also say, I don't like the deep red on you. It fights with your skin tone and hair. Keep a muted palette and then we will see you and not destracted by your clothes. 😊 The lighter colors really enhance your natural beauty. 😍 Thanks again for your videos and for listening. I LOVE your style modeling! I know what you mean about style. I’m kind of all over the place as well but classic boho romantic is pretty accurate! Mix your styles together! I look terrible in jeans and have had a hard time finding ones that fit so I’ve been forced to opt for other bottoms. Loose pants (sarasels) bloomers, skirts and dresses.

Wow, you kept that budget low Erica. Knowing what colours look good on you is such a excellent guide to clothing. When choosing my colourtype I was asked what my favorite time of the year was, spring and fall. Made colour choosing way easier.
I'm a soft summer and knowing really helps. I still use black even though it isn't supposed to be right for my colouring, but I also use greys. I hate brown, so that wasn't an option!
98% of my wardrobe is black or gray. Its just what I'm drawn to. I love neutrals and basic colors they match with more for me and it hides stains(mom of 3 yr old twins plus 3 others🤣) I enjoy your videos. Thanks for sharing!!
I seriously wonder who downvotes your videos... you’re so easy to relate to and I love your content. I’m trying for a me made wardrobe in 2021. Sewing up the basics has not been my strong suit 😅 pun not intended... love me the statement pieces and I yo yo in weight (never been a dieter, just what my thyroid does) so I make something awesome and then it doesn’t fit next season. Having a small ready to wear (store brought) capsule wardrobe that didn’t cost a lot might be a good idea... hmm you’ve got me thinking

love those colours on you! I'm super lucky as I'm a minimalist by nature and thrifty by upbringing but I do love watching your videos (especially the extreme declutter as I was raised by borderline order and I just LOVE clearing and sorting things out-possibly as I couldn't do that as a child?) Anyway, Love the colours- your looking great! A few hints for you as well after watching your videos... 1- When freezer cooking, line the dish really well with a few layers of alfoil, then make meal as usual and freeze, once frozen you can remove the food from the dish and wrap it well and store in the freezer like that while the dish can be returned to make another meal out of, when its time to cook, simply remove plastic (not alfoil) and cook (always starting from a cold oven so the dish won't crack)- this way you can have so many meals in the freezer with only 2 or 3 baking trays (I personally have 3 identical so its easy to swap about). 2- you've swapper to microfibre! (I was really confused about the paper towel thing as here in AUS its not really a thing to use paper towel) but for your dishes and wet cleaning I really recommend the bamboo cloths, we have these white almost fluffy ones here that are way better especially for dishes-wiping up food ect. keep clearing- I find it very therapeutic :)

I stopped wearing black - even though as a cool, clear, deep winter it should suit me - as once I stopped colouring my hair, it drained me. I wear deep navy as my base colour and honestly having worn it to funerals, it's been fine. I got rather confused with the different systems- in colour me beautiful I am a winter, in Dressing your Truth (a great system for analysing more than just colour but also personality), I am a type 1 and should wear tints rather than saturated colour!! Totally opposite! Still I mix and match and see what works!! 😊

You did a great job in your capsule wardrobe. I am a spring and I always thought you were one too. And I had to remove black from my wardrobe too. Navy and brown are my base colors and they are great to work with.
Great video...i just fixed my wardrobe last weekend for the 1st time ever...took all the clothes out that don't fit or i don't wear (but can't let go yet) and hung everthing up in order...so much easier

Erica, when I wanted to change my wardrobe I bought one new item every month by the end of the year I had quite a few things. I know that that's not necessarily a capsule wardrobe but that's how I acquired getting more clothes on a budget
Please take a second look at the palette. I am a Spring and that is warm clear colors. Fall is warm muted (meaning grayed down) colors. I look dreadful in muted colors. I had a friend that made her living doing color analysis analysis, she always said in order to get a good reading it must be in person and hair covered and all make up removed. This is not intended to be critical, but informative. I have watched you bloom and would hate for you feel you had made a mistake later. Best always.

A few hints for you as well after watching your videos...
1- When freezer cooking, line the dish really well with a few layers of alfoil, then make meal as usual and freeze, once frozen you can remove the food from the dish and wrap it well and store in the freezer like that while the dish can be returned to make another meal out of, when its time to cook, simply remove plastic (not alfoil) and cook (always starting from a cold oven so the dish won't crack)- this way you can have so many meals in the freezer with only 2 or 3 baking trays (I personally have 3 identical so its easy to swap about).
2- you've swapper to microfibre! (I was really confused about the paper towel thing as here in AUS its not really a thing to use paper towel) but for your dishes and wet cleaning I really recommend the bamboo cloths, we have these white almost fluffy ones here that are way better especially for dishes-wiping up food ect.
keep clearing- I find it very therapeutic :)

I love your videos! So real and useful. I should look at these color systems. I currently use Dressing Your Truth by Carol Tuttle. It's more than just colors and clothes and is amazing. Also recommend her books, especially The Child Whisper. You might enjoy it, too.
Hurrah! This is my favorite video of yours so far! I too created my first capsule wardrobe and used it this Winter. I loved it! It was so easy deciding what to wear every day. Just finished Courtney Carver’s Project 333 last night. I will definitely plan to do this always. Love all your choices!!!
I keep Black in my wardrobe mostly bottoms and shoes and then for funerals then i prefer color but maybe i need to go tru what i have more.

I stopped wearing black - even though as a cool, clear, deep winter it should suit me - as once I stopped colouring my hair, it drained me. I wear deep navy as my base colour and honestly having worn it to funerals, it's been fine. I got rather confused with the different systems- in colour me beautiful I am a winter, in Dressing your Truth (a great system for analysing more than just colour but also personality), I am a type 1 and should wear tints rather than saturated colour!! Totally opposite! Still I mix and match and see what works!! 😊

You did a great job in your capsule wardrobe. I am a spring and I always thought you were one too. And I had to remove black from my wardrobe too. Navy and brown are my base colors and they are great to work with.

Great video...i just fixed my wardrobe last weekend for the 1st time ever...took all the clothes out that don't fit or i don't wear (but can't let go yet) and hung everthing up in order...so much easier

Erica, when I wanted to change my wardrobe I bought one new item every month by the end of the year I had quite a few things. I know that that's not necessarily a capsule wardrobe but that's how I acquired getting more clothes on a budget

Please take a second look at the palette. I am a Spring and that is warm clear colors. Fall is warm muted (meaning grayed down) colors. I look dreadful in muted colors. I had a friend that made her living doing color analysis analysis, she always said in order to get a good reading it must be in person and hair covered and all make up removed. This is not intended to be critical, but informative. I have watched you bloom and would hate for you feel you had made a mistake later. Best always.
