    I have heard that you can clean motor brushes of oil by holding a soldering iron on them for a few seconds, which burns the oil off. I have never tried it though. Love your videos, they are extremely helpful!

      David you are correct in that you can clean oil from motor brushes that way.

    Wow! Great video! Brings back so many memories. I was ~ 10 years old when my father (worked for Westinghouse) taught me all those things that's in the video. I feel there's a lot of potential for this pancake motor especially today with "brushless" exciters.

      Jim Cunliffe Thanks for watching. Glad I can bring back some cool memories, hoping helped. Guys are using this Aurora T- jet style car to run a series called Fray the cars are getting incredibly fast. Thanks for watching.

    I don't know how long you've been away because I didn't look but it's good see you working on engines. I've got a few secrets up my sleeve as well if you remember... Some of my old t jets and tuff ones are so fast they blow away just about anything. Problem is gotta weigh em down to stay on track. We'll have to get together and race some more

      Love to John. Miss talking to you and we will have to get together. Let me get things together and I will let you know when. Got a few guys we can race with too.

      @@vitoman50 I scored some very serious magnets. They are so strong its unbelievable. Haven't built a motor with them yet but when I do I'll only be able to send it down a 8 ft strip once. The motor will get so hot you can't run it around even a small track setup. Its for drag racing only.

    • @johnlamson8404
      @johnlamson8404 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@vitoman50 Track has to set up with individual power sources for each lane or these engines I've built will suck all the power from the other lane and even if its a really fast car in the other lane it won't go very fast.

      @@vitoman50 I've actually had to use transmission fluid for a TH400. It holds up to the heat produced in my motors and is light enuff to get into the small spaces of the engines and chassis. I'm sure anyone who has raced long enuff knows the smell of burning oil. Especially if you put to much oil on it or raced a 50 lap race. Love that smell as much as I love being in a nitro cloud when a freshly build Top fuel dragster is fired up for the 1st time.

    around 5:12 you said something about Johnny Lightning.. If you were speaking of the magnets , those are original Aurora magnets for sure.

    • @vitoman50
      @vitoman50  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your correct, but they are a better match set in the same car. Auto World magnets have a stronger pull on my gauss meter. So if you use them the car seems to handle much better.

    I'm looking to sell my AFX track I have more than 60-15" straights, 4-9" 6-6" and 3" straights and a lot of 18-15-12-9-6" turns. Also a Viasue timing system, Enough to make at least a 50ft 4 lane track. If you do want it maybe you know someone who does. Keep making those vids.

    Can't hurt to ask.. I'm an XLerator nut, and would really like an option for retrofitting some other brand armature into the XLerator chassis.. I know the Quadralam arm has to be shortened to fit a T Jet, but is there any other brand arm that I could modify to fit the XLerators..? Replacing diodes is easy enough, recharging magnets is ok too, but I don't have micro measuring tools to figure out if anything else is adaptable.. While I've watched ppl rewind armatures, it's a bit too time consuming for me. If something readily available in used chassis lots on Ebay could be adapted, it'd be worth your while to let me know.. I'd also be really interested in a molded front axle I could use in a T Jet chassis, allowing me to race my XLerators with a slightly modified chassis.. adding a diode, and the special pickup shoes to a TJet would be fantastic, even if it was a JL or AW chassis...

    I have a mean green armature that is bad on its original motor plate. I want to reuse the motor plate and top brass gear. How do I remove the armature? I have a balanced double wound balanced quadlam I want to install. I have a red knob puller I got from the guy in Illinois but it will not get under the gear. Clearance is too tight.

    Nice video. Question on the lack of gear mesh with those Brass Gears. Can anything be done to correct that?

    • @vitoman50
      @vitoman50  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glen yes. The use of brasso or toothpaste will help break in and help gear mesh. Even on plastic gear it helps also. That's why a car that has been run for along time runs better, because the gears have been broke in to one another. Brasso or toothpaste helps speed up the process. Thanks for the question and whatching.

    What is the manufacturer of the car you are working on? Auto World? AFX?
    What is the model of chassis? T-jet maybe?
    How old is the car (when was it manufactured)?
    I ask because most people don't know these things just by looking.
    What was the dialog at the end of the video (when you were standing by the track)?

    • @vitoman50
      @vitoman50  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      T Jet probably late 60's early 70's But most pancake motor cars non magnatraction , magnatraction and autoworld would be the same. Thanks for asking BigRalphSmith. Any Questions just ask.

    I've seen in a past video of yours where you cut out the little braces in the chassis that run horizontally to hold the magnets in. I heard you glue the magnets in place when you do this. If you wanted to shim the rear mag and cut out the chassis can you do both? or Is it a one or the other deal? I hope I'm being clear.

    • @vitoman50
      @vitoman50  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      mzondi1970 Yes you can do both, I do. I cut the mag. braces to lower them in the chassis. This helps to make them stick a little better. Put lower profile tires on all chassis too helps immensely. Hope this helps.
