  • Hughie Jones, the composer of the song, and Brian Ferguson perform "The Ellan Vannin Tragedy" on the 102nd anniversary of the loss of the Isle of Man Steam Packet vessel with all passengers and crew in hurricane-force winds on 3rd December 1909, in the entrance to the Mersey.
Two of the stonemasons working on the church "Our Lady Star of the Sea and St. Maughold" Ramsey were among the passengers who were lost that night. The performance takes place by their memorial plaque.

Lovely to see this. Great to see Hughie and fond memories of The Spinners.

Yes, indeed. He has always been very supportive of the memory of Ellan Vannin.

@@petertucker7952 Thanks for letting me know Peter. Not seen him in years. What parish is this? Is he still with us? God willing he will be. A true gentleman

He's in Ramsey, Our Lady Star of the Sea and St. Maughold, and yes, indeed, a true gentleman.
He is mentioned in the credits at the end of the video, 5'40" and the church is where a remembrance service has been held for Ellan Vannin for two or three years after the centenary of the disaster.
There's also a complete video of the 2013 service: SS Ellan Vannin Memorial Service 2013 so you can see more of Father Brian there.
