Awesome video! Thank you so much for doing this one! I always am hesitant over which types of hand dyed type of fabric to buy because I know they can dye so different, so I typically just order the same type and count all the time since I am more familiar with how that one takes it. It was very helpful to be able to see the differences side by side on how the different fabrics take the dyes. Thank you also to Tammy from Colour Cascade for helping you out with this idea. Her fabrics are so beautiful anyway - love her stuff!

That was a really good comparison Danielle! The reason linen and Aida dye darker is because they are natural fibers. Lugana and Jobelan have synthetic fibres in them such as polyester or rayon. Therefore they don’t absorb the colours as well

Thanks for another great video. It is amazing how different each count/type of fabric takes.

Thank you ~ great comparison tutorial ~ goes in my keeper file for future reference. I do enjoy your videos and find them so informative even when it's not a tutorial. I learn a lot just by watching you stitch on your "stitch along" videos. Thanks again

I've heard people talk about the difference in dying on different types of fabrics and always wondered how true that was. You can definitely tell the difference from your comparisons. I'm pretty shocked that the difference is so dramatic between some of the fabrics. Thank you for showing this.

Thanks for the comparison. I have never seen this done before. Amazing how they take the dye differently. It’s good information to have when ordering fabric online, as well as for home dying adventures.

I never really gave it much thought about how different fabrics take dye but the differences are striking. I guess it all depends on how much dye the fiber will absorb. I need to get my butt in gear and catch up with watching your videos. Very informative-I learned a lot from this👍

The difference in dying isn't because of the weave, it's due to what makes up the base fabric. Ex. Linen is a natural fiber that takes colors the best. Lugana is a mix of cotton and viscose. :) Janet

That’s a very helpful video, let’s us know what to look for when ordering online! It’d also benice to see how one color dyes different fabrics. What I mean is one solid color. For those who want to dye at home and aren’t sure what fabric to buy or if you can get different dyes and use it on each fabric to show the difference in dyes over the same fabric type. You could make a whole series on this. Lol. I love seeing stuff like that.

Another thing to consider with the variation of colours and subtlety of the results is the dyeing technique used (this looks like ice dyed) and if any mordants are used (salt or soda ash for example). A hand dyer of fabrics can easily adjust the results according to the type of result you want and based on your fabric preferences. I dyed 25ct lugana just yesterday and got a lovely subtle colour shift without much effort. Yes they do vary, but it can be controlled. I hope that makes sense to those who want to stitch on certain fabrics but are wanting a different result

Thanks for the video. I know that with dyeing yarns that depends on the yarn (cotton, wool, silk) they all take dye differently. Very cool to see for sure. I will have to try 20 ct. opal lugana. I love how the stitches show up. Thanks again.

As always thank you so...so much for your video on the comparisons on the different hand-dyed fabrics. I have always wondered what was difference was with the hand-dye colored fabrics. I thought you did agreat as always.

  • @WeasleyStudios

I’ve said it a hundred times........fabric companies and sellers really need to put pictures of each fabric dyed for each color on their website. They have the space and time. It shouldn’t be a guessing game for us consumers and you shouldn’t have had to do this video. Thank you however for doing so.

Thank you soon much for this comparison. We all appreciate your informative videos. I would like to make a request for a future video. I have been stitching for 30 plus years but I'm afraid of trying silks. Could you do a teaching video on how to stitch with silks to include any tips and tricks as well as the best way to store silks. Thank you in advance, Corina

The wide range in color is part of why I have never bought hand dyed fabric online. I’m afraid I won’t get what I expected and will have wasted all that money.

Thank you, I 'be been trying to wrap my head around the way the dye takes on different fabric too, so hard to know what I'll end up with when I order, did she send you the fiber content of the fabrics? Looks like linen dyes well, natural fiber, but not sure on the others. Thank you so much for all you do to help us through some of these questions.

    • @Stitcherista
      @Stitcherista  7 ปีที่แล้ว

Pamela Nesler she did not send the fiber content but you can look those up online.

Thanks for this video. I'm doing my first project that's not on Aida. It's 28 count Jobelan. I like the way my project looks but I can't see. A light should be here tomorrow. I was wondering what is the difference in Jobelan and Lugana. Stitching wise can u see holes better in one or is there not any difference. Thanks again have a blessed day

Thank you for this video! I was deciding between Wicked Garden 28 ct lugana and 28 ct cashel and have now decided to go with the lugana. I think that will suit the colours in my pattern best. On another note, the fabric on your scroll frame is beautiful - do you recall which fabric that is? Thank you again!
