    Love that you’re preserving pre-TCW SW. so refreshing to not have to do with such mindless retcons over and over whenever having any patch of legends lore on in the background.

    There was a Dathomirian member of the ancient Jed’aii order, as I recall. Her name was Shae Koda, and though she was born and raised on Tython she was stated to be of Dathomiri descent. But if Dathomir was first colonized as a penal colony, later in galactic history, how does that work? Your thoughts, Tadd?

    • @BarbsBasement
      @BarbsBasement 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      There was also a Sith species Jed’aii, I always loved that about that series. That and the expansion on the Rakata species.

      The dawn of the jedi comics were published around 2012 which was well after TCW retconned the dathomir witches. At that point, the Courtship of Princess Leia novel was pretty much disregarded by the writers. To solve this issue, we could omit the Tho Yor Pyramid that arrived from Dathomir and pretend that Shae Koda was from somewhere else since she's human and all, however another explanation we could offer is that perhaps Dathomir used to be inhabited by humans before the Tho Yor arrival and that the Tho Yor wisked all of them away to Tython, leaving Dathomir uninhabited and forgotten until Allya's exile in 600bby (wookieepedia implies this as well so whoever contributed to the article must have come to the same extrapolating conclusion). I prefer the latter explanation and will most likely use this when I do a video focusing on the planet Dathomir in the future

    The Book of Sith (?) sourcebook from 2012 still makes me cringe due to having to incorporate Filoni retcons into itself; yet another example of how harmful that series was to rest of the EU (and especially the post-RotJ era), since this was still during the time when they'd try to make as much as possible fit.

    Great video as usual. Your channel is one of the best of the star wars Expanded universe/Legends channel. It's nice to learn more about the witches of Dathomir and the different clans.
    Wasn't there some witches working with Tyber Zann in the expansion of empire at war? What happened to the witch that escaped with Quilan Vos?
    It would be nice to see some lore video on Zsinj, if it doesn't bother you. Anyway, thanks for the video and have a good day/night.

    0:40 Gonna have to correct you almost immediately as the Witches of Dathomir do view the Force has having a darker side to it. That's where the Nightsisters come in as their use of the dark side of the Force was done in the same way as the Sith just without the Sith trappings and ideology. The Witch Clans are taught to use the Force benevolently in much of the same way as the Jedi just without their trappings.
    7:46 I'm surprised that there's no mentioning of Tyber Zann's activities on the planet some time before the Battle of Endor. He and his bodyguard freed some members of the Nightsisters from captivity as well as other prisoners when he established Consortium operations on the planet since he needed a powerful Nightsister to unlock the secrets of a Sith holocron in his possession.

    • @justinamey7116

      Trapping? 🤔 Anything that has a particular culture and ideology is a trapping. The witch's trapping may be different from the Jedi but they are still trappings.

    During the events of Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron after Return of the Jedi, a self proclaimed Sith Lord named X1 also took control of base on Dathomir, though the Nightsisters weren’t fond of his presence and struck back against his forces. During this time, his brother, Jedi Knight X2, and Grey Squadron infiltrated the base and fought both the Imperials and the Nightsisters. X2 eventually came across the matriarch who rode a rancor and after a bit of battling, killed her and learned of his brother’s position on Mustafar.

    This makes way more sense than Filoni bullshit, unfortunately i really like Jedi Fallen Order so i have to find a headcanon way to make it all fit so i guess the witches and "nightbrothers" in that game just reside on a completely different part of the planet

    To be honest, the Nightsisters of The Clone Wars were the Frangrawl Clan led by Mother Talzin and seeing how they are very different from the rest it's easy to have them be separate from the others and fight the Light Side clans.

    • @Manda-LORE
      @Manda-LORE  4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      As stated on my other channel in "why the clone wars doesnt fit in legends parts 1 and 2" the show portrays the nightsisters as the only clan on dathomir and the entire planet from space is shown as a completely different topography and ecology.

      You should read The Young Jedi Knight series as well as The Courtship of Princess Leia and NJO. The Witches of Dathomir, especially Tenel Ka, are definitely not boring. If anything, it's the "wicked witches of Oz" that are boring and one-dimensional. They don't even ride rancors!
