I love the Nightsisters and the Witches of Dathomir in a whole, their "Magic" is fascinating and their worshipping of the Sister and Brother in their own ways and drawing on their power is cool, it reminds me of Sith Magic.
yes it is very akin to that of Sith Sorcery that by this time was 100% lost thats why Palpatine was so interested in them at first but well we saw how that went.
The Nightsisters have always been one of my favorite parts of Star Wars. I have been wanting a series based around them and Ventress forever now. Maybe someday…
The light side Witches of Dathomir are back in canon, they were just minding their own business on other regions of the planet while Talzin's Nightsisters were getting involved in the Clone Wars.
‘Book of Sith’ has a section devoted to the Nightsister’s beliefs. The last part of the video a summarized it. I haven’t gotten around to reading ‘the Jedi Path’ yet, but they probably have a sedation devoted to Witches (the Lightside leaning ones) as well.
The Force Magic they use is most intriguing, as well as how they worship the Celestials like the Son and Daughter, both as proper interpretation of the Force.
One of the things I’ve always loved about Star Wars is how different species and cultures are portrayed, even in cultures that many would consider to be more dark side leaning or “evil” there are plenty of differences between individuals and different groups within the society.
I mean the night sisters arent even evil lol... lets not forget the Republic was the "great evil" in clone wars... Dathomir rejected those who were consumed by too much darkness and their magic was akin to sith sorcery (that by this time was LOST) very much so but it wasn't even 100% darkside it was the combined might and worship of the sister and brother...light AND dark...
Absolutely loved The Courtship of Princess Leia. It was a really exciting novel (especially if you read the X-wing books), and it was nice to show more about the types of Dathomiri witches that were present. Also, Han Solo was so hateable there.
I just bought Empire at War like 2 weeks ago and noticed that Nightsisters were in it. I thought that they were made by the Clone Wars but I’m surprised how long they’ve existed.
Empire at War is fun, and yeah, Nightsisters are a surprisingly pretty old concept in Star Wars. I think I remember my first time seeing the Nightsisters was in the DS game "Star Wars The Clone Wars: Jedi Alliance." Based in the 2008 Clone Wars show of course, but it had the Nightsisters before the show introduced them, so no green magic.
Something interesting in the Dawn of the Jedi series: we see two humans, a woman and a man, riding Rancors on Dathomir millenia before the Jedi even existed. They and the other force sensitives of Dathomir were taken by the Tho Yor to form the Jed'aii order. It seems its been retconned that Allya rediscovered how to tame Rancors, and restored the tribal society of Dathomir rather then inventing it. Except this past society was more egalitarian.
The Dawn of the Jedi comics came out in 2012. So, I’m not sure if they had time to retcon it has Allya’s “rediscovery” of being able to tame Rancors using the Force. It might have been a mistake. But, that seems reasonable.
I would love to hear more about the good side of the Witches, i had no idea there were other witches than the Nightsisters on Dathomir until you mentioned them here.
...You know, compatibility between the two iterations is *really, really hard* to compute even with our advanced Multiversal research and dossier parameters. Edit: Hope you guys explore the purported past of the Kwa and even the Gree when it came to them being the past galactic superpowers and by extension the guardians of said galaxy (aided by the enigmatic Celestials, no less) against the forces of chaos and evil, especially the infamous Bedlam Spirits led by the wily Tilotny.
While i can appreciate the old force dichotomy of light being balance and dark being chaos, i like the canon better. Light is creation and protection, while dark is destruction and weakening. Both are needed for balance and progress. Too much dark, and the galaxy becomes a literal hellscape. Too much light, and the galaxy becomes stagnant, never changing, never evolving, just vegetating. Light and dark in equal amounts, and the galaxy evolves, and so do it's inhabitants.
Luke and Jacon was both able to use the Blood Trail technice in Legends. Also Telen ka djos mother was a witch from dathomir and she was the queen of Hapes, this was also a people where the females was in charge, and the male was lower on the social order.
No offense to the Nightsisters, but when you are led by a Lovecraft horror who literally gave birth to a Sith Lord that caught Darth Sidious attention, and can bring back the dead as zombies which you know that the Force will probably consider it to close to the Dark Side considering you are calling to the dead to your beck and call.
I recently watched all the Nightsisters CW episodes so this is really interesting to learn about! I'd love to see more of the non-Nightsister Dathomiri witches tbh
So that zombie army summoned during the Battle of Dathomir was actually created by using a Light Side ability? Well, that's something I never thought I'd hear. But I suppose it makes sense, as seen in other media's like The Loud House, The Owl House, and so on, summoning a ghost, spirit, zombie, or whatever to help isn't always used for evil purposes, sometimes it is a force for good(pun intended, lol).
Necromancy sure does do help for good, especially in murder mysteries. Just look at Pathways into Darkness, Arcanum, and the Shadowrun tabletop and its Returns trilogy of video games.

Good summary, but you left out the other infinity gate users: the Gree. The way I heard it, the Kwa were at war with the Gree who were using the Rakatta as slaves. The Kwa taught the Rakatta how to use the force, but the Rakatta savagery was beyond anything the Kwa expected and the Rakatta completely genocide the Gree. Ashamed, the Kwa retreated to Dathomir, gave up their technology and intelligence and became the blue valley lizard people.
The night sisters were supposed to look evil? I always viewed them as a neutral force that, as long they were left alone, wouldn't care about what happens on other planets.

Can u do something on what the galaxy is like when the time is set to 10000 light years after the death of Ray papatine-skywalker has passed on her gifts to the force
8:50 Are you saying that The Je'daii (Force Sensitive Order on Tython that became The Jedi Order over time) are dark siders, then? Like, the order that became The Light-Side Adherent Jedi Order was on the level of The Sith, or these Nightsisters? Bantha Poo-doo! Not all Force Orders in the galaxy (Or, specific individuals) can neatly fit this view that you can ONLY be Light Side, or Dark Side, and NOT both. Examples: The Je'daii Order, Revan/Darth Revan, Darth Marr, Anakin Skywalker (Not as Darth Vader), Witches of Dathomir, Kyle Katarn, Mara Jade Skywalker, and Cade Skywalker (At times). •Je'daii: They lived on a world that had two moons (Ashla, and Rural Australian *COUGH COUGH* Oh sorry, Bogan COUGH COUGH), one that embodied The Light Side; the other, The Dark Side (Don't listen to The Big Meanies George Lucas, or Drew Karpheshyn, anyone down under. They don't understand you very well), so, some symbolism of the relationship of Light, Dark, and Balance was going to arise inevitably. Plus, since any imbalance in The Force (Anyone being a bit too Light, or Dark for The Force's taste) could cause Apocalyptic natural disasters on Tython if they were not careful, people NEEDED to practice both Light, and Dark, out of a need for survival. And they lived 10,000 years this way in (Relative, since there were some major conflicts that broke out, but none that got started on Tython itself, as far as I know) peace. To reference Avatar: The Last Airbender: Then, everything changed when The Rakata Attacked. This Evil, Fully Dark Side-Oriented Empire came to Tython, caused much pain, and suffering for The Je'daii, and the rest of The Tython System. Afterwards, The Je'daii were forever scarred by what happened during their fight against The Dark Side Invaders, which led to some wanting to abandon The Dark Side completely, but others did not, which started The Decade Long Force Wars (The First of countless conflicts between Light, and Dark), that The Light Side Je'daii eventually won, though all the Force-fighting left Tython uninhabitable. They became The Jedi Order, moved to Ossus, and the rest is history. Basically, if The Je'daii were Adam, and Eve; The Rakata were the snake that tempted them with their Force-Sabers (Like the fruit of The Tree of Knowledge of Good, and Evil), and brought suffering on the galaxy forevermore, as a result. They lived in relative harmony, then those snail-eyed serpents corrupted them. So, there's proof that such practices could work, and hopefully in a less urgent Out-of-a-need-for-survival sort of way, as long as there aren't Satan-like forces to screw it all up. The other ones, I will explain in another comment, or so, since this one is LOOOOONG.
I honestly love the non Jedi and Sith force sensative cultures in the universe. They're just so interesting.

Are the infinity gates of the Qua the same as the World Between Worlds from rebels? Would make lots of cool connections between legend and canon.
Nightsisters are beautiful........ 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Merrin will forever be best Dathomir waifu.
this is an amazing video is it based on any of the books, if so, which ones?
So I heard the night sisters were total freaks in the sac
Mother talzin: "arise maul reborn son of dathomir."
Where can I read more about the light sider withes of Dathomir?
Imagine beating a species so hard in a war, that they don’t even go back into the stone age but return to fock1ng Monke
I, too, love the Nightsisters.
Killing them off was one of the biggest storytelling mistakes of The Clone Wars.
The fact that you don’t have more Nightsister/Dathomir Witch videos 😭😭😭
Dathomir = Star Wars Australia, used by the biggest power around as a penal colony and every there will kill you if you aren’t careful.
Bence nighsisters hem legends hem canon da potansiyeli olup kullanılmayan bir malzeme
I love the night sisters always thought they were so bad ass, I wish I was one lol.
Wish this was used in Acolyte
I like the Night Sisters, there really cool, powerful and women only.
They had night brothers they ruled over more or less which is not so positive or blood rites .
I really need to know where this planet is so I can avoid it
Great vid bro.😺
I still believe that the light and the dark side were meant to be used in tandem and anyone who says otherwise has been corrupted by Jedi lies
That’s kinda known knowledge the sith want pure chaos which is why they’re bad
1:38 is that a Berserk reference?
Why do the Kwa look like Sangheili from Halo Legends??
This shows how Rakatan Empire was powerfull.
Very interesting video.
