Are Ye Sleeping Maggie - Lyrics
Mirk an' dreary is the nicht
There's no' a staurn in a' the carry
    Lichtnin's gleam athwart the lift
The cauld winds drive wi' winter's fury
    Chorus:
    Oh, are ye sleepin' Maggie
Oh, and are ye sleepin' Maggie
Let me in for loud the linn
Is howlin' ower the warlock Craigie
    Fearfu' soughs the boortree bank
The rifted wood roars wild and dreary
Loud the iron yett does clank
The cry of hoolits mak's me eerie
    Chorus
Abune my breath I daurnae speak
For fear I rouse your waukrife daddy
Cauld's the blast upon my cheek
    Arise, arise, my bonnie lady
    Chorus
She's op'd the door, she's let him in
She's cuist aside his dreepin' plaidie
What care I for rain or wind
For Maggie noo I'm here aside ye
    Chorus
    Traditional arranged by Rapalje
RAPALJE, Celtic Folk Music with a difference!
The musicians of Rapalje with their wild hair and medieval kilts create a flaming energy with their enthusiasm and motivation. With sensitive ballads, fiery songs and vivacious Celtic melodies Rapalje electrifies their audience. A concert of Rapalje is like a journey through time with recognizable licentiousness and a rough way of life.

The violin guy seems to be very happy playing that fiddle.

The science of music is how notes are formed, but playing the music is art. And art will always tease science with new ideas and wonders. Art creates, Science follows creation.

A friend once pointed out that there are singers with beautiful voices and singers without gorgeous natural instruments who know how to sing. He cited David Bromberg as an example of the latter.
These fine musicians play songs, hence, they sing along.

Dieb is always smiling even of stage! I have seen several theaterconcerts and followed them at the Fantasy Fair, Castle Fair and Keltfest in the Netherlands. These guys are so aproachable they even call out the names of the fans they recognise and play their favorite songs as a tribute... Go see them live!

@razzzor620 I agree with razzzor620. I find it humorous when people are harshly criticizing folk music.. folk music isn't supposed to be technically flawless. The villagers of old times weren't masters of their instruments, but they played with true heart and emotion. You can hear that emotion in this music, and that's why it's powerful.

not everybody is as talented with music than others, it whould be nice for them if someone looked at it to see how to actually do it, so it can be explained to them. the fact that you're analysing music does not mean you are judging it, hell someone wrote 4,55 minutes of silence and called it music. and nobody said he hadn't the right to do so. It was even criticly aclaimed.

I wonder if some of the words in the lyrics are Irish words. Some of their spells are awkward I'm not professional in English though. Are they Irish or old English? Or German? I love this song so I want to understand the story. I'll translate it someday.

welll. Musicologist??? Baaaah! You cant make music a science! Its individual, its more about feeling than precision. I am doing music all my bloody life, and I can tell that I like their singing. Maybe not technically right and perfect. But what the hell??? Its more about how you feel and how you gonna get that feeling into music... And music without feeling is the one that sucks. If you want to analyze music technicaly and put it into "numbers" than it proves that you know nothing about music:)

@marinacrvena rapalje isn't meant to be perfect, they rock live and the feeling is awesome!
musicologist is bullshit. everybody has a different taste in music, you can't say "that band is bad" cause it's only your opinion. and besides that: this is live, you can't compare this to studio-music.

Maybe, but these are Dutch singers, singing in a language and accent not native to them.
I don't know where you are from, but I dare you to record yourself right now, singing in a tongue you are not fully native with.

Then go and write a paper.
Go on, do it.;"On irish and scottish songs and why dutch people shouldn't sing them"
Somehow i doubt there would be anyone in the scientiffic community impressed by it...
You're nothing but a orthodox celts fan. There is nothing wrong with them, just don't go putting anybody else down, please. Also don't go around parading/claiming knowledge you can't and don't have, it looks kinda stupid.
