Never got to see 1522 running, first saw her in St Louis at the museum in the fall of 2002, which I think was very soon after they dropped the fires for the last time. Such a shame

    I didn't know that Frisco 1522 was Oiled-Fired

Of course because coal is expensive and dirty while oil is cheap and clean.

@@mwand89 Coal is not always expensive. Some places it’s more available than oil. Oil burners are definitely better though. Easier to fire, and not as dirty. It’s also interesting that some locomotives see a horsepower increase when converted from coal to oil.

The engineers don't wave from the trains anymore, not like they did back in 1954.

Wonder what the fastest that speedometer has ever read is. A touch above 60 in an old Mountain like that must have been a hell of a ride. Sure looked like it.

We did 72 mph on our first trip on the Wisconsin Central late at night. The stack talk was amazing and so loud. Former crew grunt here.

@@michaelperkins5858 So cool! Thanks for sharing. Too bad the preservation climate isn’t so good right now and too bad 1522 needs so much work to run again. I would have loved to see it in its glory days, but I was born a few months after the last run.

1522 has been under cover since retirement and might require a while to get on the road. But why bother...we've lost many crew members who took care of her and the young dudes don't have the interest. It took 5 years to do the rebuild. A long commitment

@@michaelperkins5858 There are probably more young guys out there that have the interest than you think. I know because I’m one of them, and I know quite a few others. Current volunteer on Ventura County Railway #2.

@@blackbirdgaming8147 honestly, I would love to see a mountain type rather than another northern.

We went north to Hannibal, turned the train and went west to KC on the BNSF through Brookfield, the from KC to Topeka via the old Santa Fe.
