  • We've all seen the symptoms - and there have been a lot of solutions, but to date, Trask's CheckM8 is the best option around for alleviating excessive crankcase pressure in M8 Harleys.

    After reading some comments, we should have been more specific: It is possible to install this on many M8 softails without removing the exhaust - but when we do the install we try to get a torque wrench on as many of the bolts as possible and the exhaust gets in the way of that. So yes, it can be done, but not the way we want to do it. Hope that helps!

      Where is the check valve located on the Trask transmission cover option? Is it eliminated when a catch can is used to replace the Trask filter? I'd like more information about the check valve's function and location. Thanks!

    I installed a threaded PCV valve from a 2011 Honda Element. It's metal and threaded. Ran a 3/8 hose to a small filter. Looks O.E. and works flawlessly.

    I have a 17’ SGS and have both the external breather and the Trask CheckM8 and haven’t had any oil in my catch can… a little water/oil condensation though. I ran my Trask filter behind the right side cover but, like your idea to go above the cylinders!
    Thanks for the tip!

    I have a S&S exhaust on my 21 LOW Rider S and I did not have to remove the exhaust. had plenty of room to get the covers through the right side. Now as far as the bolts. I wish I had some shallow sockets.

    It is a good idea my only deal breaker is that hole that goes to the oil pan is real small I rather trust my a1 vented dip stick I have had it for 15 k I get no oil out of my head vents to each his own I’m sure it works but for the money. I rather go with dipstick thanks for the information of This

  • @hisballshaveballs
    @hisballshaveballs ปีที่แล้ว

    This is 100% accurate. The vented dipsticks on softails is a poor design because the oils spout goes all the way to the bottom of the oil pan. This means pressure has to build up and push oil up the spout to allow an air bubble into the vent, which causes it to puke oil. The top cover eliminates all of the pressure without blowing oil.

      Yes, you can do it cheaper. Trask unit is expensive, but not really overpriced. It’s a nice billet piece as opposed to Harley’s shitty plastic part. Quality machine work is expensive when you figure the investment required.

    I have been riding on the street over 50 years, Triumphs, Sportsters, Flatheads, Panheads, Shovelheads and lately acquired a 96 Evo. I find it rather humorous that every time Harley comes out with a new production engine and motorcycle, somebody has to invent a way to fix the problem that they didn't put enough R & D into finding and solving. They copied the "Vard" front end to replace the springer for the 1949 model year. (Vard built aircraft suspension for WWII aircraft) The first foot shift on the big twins was the Speed-E Shift. I could go on but if not for the genius of aftermarket products, Harley would have been regaled to the scrap heap years ago.

  • @blinsenb

    Stupid question 🙋!! Do I really need to run that goofy tube somewhere or can I just put the filter on the nipple on top of the cover and be done with it?

    • @sarcasticcrypto
      @sarcasticcrypto 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Having the length of hose extending vertically to locate the filter above the top of the cylinder head may help keep any oil from reaching the filter. (due to it being mostly straight up and its length) yes, it would be best if you used the supplied hose.
      The manufacturer designed it the way it is for a reason, I mean, who would know the best way to install it other than the peeps who studied the problem and created a remedy?

      The 2024 model baggers actually come with a very similar vent from the factory. There is a vent line running from the top of the trans cover - main difference is that it routes to the intake manifold rather than to the atmosphere.
