Um, if spike was born at the same time twilight was accepted into magic kindergarten, which if it ran by real world standards, generally accept children once they turn 5, and around now, twilight would be a graduate that has been out of college for at least a year, wouldn’t spike technically be somewhere in his early 20’s or late teens depending on how old twilight was when she graduated?

Personally, I think that the mane 6 are 18 to 22 years of age, maybe older. People probably think they’re teens because A: they way they act and behave, B: the fact that the exact lifespans of equestrians are unknown(though we do know that even the “average” earth pony could live for centuries, and that dragons live far longer), and C: the portal to the human world(no fan-rage please) turns fully grown ponies into teenagers, and the thousands of years old celestia into a 30-40 year old.
Personally, I think Spike has to be somewhere around eleven or twelve, considering three years later in season 8, he goes through essentially dragon puberty and gains wings.
In which case, it was wrong to ship him with Rarity back in season 1 and it's still wrong now. I have no issue with Spike and Rarity being different species, it's just that they're an adult and a child, and that's never okay! Ever!

This turned out pretty well. I didn't expect to collab with you one day, but here we are, tackling on an episode that... well we kind of echoed each other off of. I wasn't sure what to pick though, so that's that. The only real complaint was the odd uneven sizing of each other's OC's. At least there wasn't flashy text like Death Note had. Now to find a way out of that portal.

This was a good episode, why would anyone stop watching it??

There is irritated-jealousy and then there's sad-lonely-jealousy. One can be played for comedy and can't. This was the latter and feeling that way sucks so hard. Making someone feel that way on purpose is not cool at all.

I have to relate with both Twilight and Goldenfox. This episode personally pisses me off. Twilight made some mistakes in this episode, but the rest of the mane 6 were complete assholes for continually not telling her what happened when she away. And Discord, even if he's a troll, this seemed to me, out of character for him. I would think he would be more considerate for Twilight's feelings after she fricken saved him from Tirek

Also the ending for this series is...controversial, to say the least. Not everyone's happy with it, since it doesn't quite line up with Twilight's personality or character growth much at all, or the theme of the show ("friendship" and "keep friends close so you can tackle things together").

Everybody else has talked about Discord and opinions and stuff, so I'm just going to point out that from 3:58 to 4:01 Twilight covers Spike with her wing. A little detail showing she DOES care about Spike, it's just that a lot of the writers don't.

I feel Discord was in the wrong in this episode moreso than Twilight. Discord was the villain of The Return of Harmony. He messed with Twilight and the girls first. He ought to be kind first. As far as I'm concerned, Twilight and Discord still aren't friends, and I see Three's a Crowd and What About Discord as missed opportunities.
I really feel like this episode just smacked the ending to Twilight's kingdom in the face. Thank god Twilight and Discord have better interactions later. Discord still likes messing with her but does treat her like a friend as well, and Twilight isn't as put off by his personaility as she was here.
Yeah, the whole "manipulate Twilight into learning a lesson" bit was great in Princess Twilight Sparkle, but it feels wrong in a post Twilight's Kingdom episode. I like what they did better in Celestial Advice, where Discord is simply communicating badly.
Doctor Eggnog yeah, I hate how everything I see forgiveness is like just "stop doing bad things" rather than make up for what you've done, it's like locking someone in a room for ages then letting them out and saying "i saved your life". People need to realise if they caused something, especially on purpose, they need to make up for it if they want to be viewed as good, you can't just stop doing a bad thing and be amazing for doing that.

He _started_ with a lesson in mind, but got too much of a kick out of getting under Twilight's skin so it became more of a cruel joke, which is why everyone else at the end weren't happy with him.

I agree with you two, though what angered me most was Discord's dickishness. Especially post season 4 finale where Twilight showed him COMPLETE COMPASSION, yet he still acts like a jerk here. It REALLY angered me. WORST MLP EPISODE EVER.

This is why I love critics like these guys. They point out certain flaws that doesn't seem right while I however, never notice how the episode goes. Probably the best part they point out was 11:34 . It's unexpected to be honest and doesn't seem right for Twilight to assume Discord is "still" evil after all the previous episodes she had with him including Discord's mistake in betraying his friends.
He learned his lesson the hard way though and was later forgiven. So after watching this scene, I feel like the writer didn't thought about it, but went along with this script episode anyway.
Note: I know it's just a TV show and nothing serious about it, but it's always interesting how we don't notice something is off until someone points them out.
Fun fact, I actually put dnd on my resume as the description Firebrand uses.

10:00 it's even deeper foreshadowing to the season finale win right after that scene of twilight chastising pinkie in a bush behind the others you can just barely see the top of starlight's head and a pair of binoculars. Meaning that conversation is what gave for the idea for the finale
After which she snuck into the library, stole the spell, mastered it to the point she could change it, altered it to include some very specific trapping clauses, and mastered THAT spell. All in how many days, together with the time it took her to learn all the other new spells she used? I don't care how 'gifted at magic' she's supposed to be, I call Shenanigans.
Oh yeah, and there's the part where she says she experimented with the Map to see if she could actually use the trap-spell on it. When and how, without being detected by anyone? Especially by Discord, who has been proven to be able to detect imbalances in magic. Magic that could tear the spacetime continuum apart seems like a pretty big imbalance to me.
I took it as he didn't want to interrupt her during her booksortcation he said as much. Then when he realized how much it bothered her at the point he was having fun watching her squirm and figured he could teach a lesson to her about jealousy at the same time.
When I originally saw this episode I kind of hated everyone but Twilight. While yes she was being idiotic she seemed hurt and to see her friends not give a shit abd have discord Mock her in a way just made me mad. I agree with Golden Fox that the other ponies should of been called out to.thks was just a really bad episode.

I have to disagree with 11:37. Yes, Twilight was jealous, but some of her suspicions are understandable. Discord had them under his control in his first episode. Discord has routinely betrayed and lied to them in the past and continued to do so in the future. Forgiveness doesn’t mean trust. Forgiveness is something you choose to give. Trust Hass to be earned.

The five that were in the know that keep saying "Oh you had to be there." ...I think that's just an assumption from them that Twilight would be alright with just missing one event with discord. ......But Twilight a bit more...obsessive of these things than most give her credit for. She spent 3 days organizing her books, and knowing her she has to organize them in different ways.. by the dewy decimal system, by color, by title alphabetically, by size, or by genre.
Bottom line.. this episode is just adding fuel to the flame on how obsessive Twilight could get, but in a very serious and unfunny way than Lesson Zero, where it was more scary and funny. And as the Horse from Ren and Stimpy said. "Hmmmm.........No sir, I didn't like it."

About three years back, Mr. Enter did an Admirable Animation episode on the works of the poems by Shane Koyczan, depicting the world of trolls. A lot of people called him out saying that he was misinterpreting the concept of "trolling". I think their reasoning was pretty piss-poor, but if what this video described the original concept of "trolling", that does make a bit more sense. If that's the case, however, they should have put more thought into their responses.

Twilight had no reason to treat him as a friend!

Look here. Discord is a trickster by nature & personality and some of those manipulations had some "lesson" behind it. The incident with the Plunderseeds was a plan that was supposed to have taken affect years ago but took so long of a time that Discord reformed too late (also being a lesson to Twilight). As for the betrayal, the review explicitly stated that Discord regretted what he did after he himself gets betrayed by Tirek and since then is at least trying to learn better, meaning Twilight had no reason to think he would turn back again and use a spell on her friends.
Did you also forget that Twilight had Discord released despite such betrayal?

That fertilizer line I thought it was a reference to drugs. If it is, it would provide a subtle way of promoting awareness of what some drugs can do to you (if in a watered down way, knowing me I am most likely projecting here but still.)

Not gonna lie, this episode wasn't all that great. I felt annoyed and agitated and I felt sorry for Twilight, for the most part. What really annoyed me was how forgetful the mane 5 were when Twilight asked them how the day went. And it annoyed me how they always said 'you had to be there' as an excuse to dodge the explanation. It's wrong. Bottom line, this episode is an F for me.

This was basically lesson zero again, but instead of Twilight doing something drastic because of her mental issues, she does something reasonable for her imagined (but actually somewhat likely) scenario of of Discord mind controlling them. And instead of her friends doing something jerky but realistic, they do something UNrealisticly jerky.
When a group has inside jokes, and someone doesn’t know and asks, you say “you had to be there” AFTER you explain it, not before you even try.
Why?
Because one reassures you’re friend that, while they may not get the joke they’re still a part of the group.
While the other brushes off a friends attempts to connect with you and the group better.
You *always* explain the story behind the inside joke, EVEN when there is no way they’ll laugh, because spoiler alert: inside jokes aren’t funny. 9/10 they aren’t even jokes. You see, what feels like laughter is actually just you feeling good because you’re remembering a shared experience with another person, because it makes you feel closer with them. Even if it won’t be the exact same, letting people in on the jokes will still give them the same close feeling, even when they don’t laugh.
And in the episode, Twilight asked SEVERAL times for an explanation, and by the point of “science-ing a recreation” of the story, Twilight is all but screaming “I don’t care if it’s funny, I just want to know the story!” And they refuse to tell her! Even when it’s *clearly* getting to her!
This ticks me off even more because lesson zero was a thing, and (at the very least) AJ already knows Twilight well enough to stop a “Twilighting episode” before it even starts.
But they don’t!
That’s why I hate this episode. References were good,

Okay, your math is just bugging me. Yes, if you put that as one second for the placement of each book, you get 5.56 hours. BUT, that only applies if she already knows exactly where each book is going in the first place. That x factor makes this impossible to quantify for, besides the minimum. Which even that is a stretch since she was shown levitating three book at once at the start. Now that's "taking it too seriously," and good day.

GamerGodLink I personally am of the belief that the mane 6 are In their mid 20s and spike is somewhere from 13-15. Also keep in mind age differences are much more creepy at the younger end of the spectrum.
A 13 and 18 year old couple is super creepy, and people would say the 18 year old is a pedophile. With just a 5 year gap.
And yet put that same 5 year gap between a 40 and 45 year old and then there's no problem from anyone.
