      hahaha thanks man ! and I was just talking with a co-worker yesterday about how much different the northern states people seem to be over some of the other more southern states. We seem to be a lot a-like in our more relaxed pace, and still care about your neighbour where I find a lot of that is missing in the big cities b/c there is just so many ppl.

    You should have a gear playlist such as atv/sxs stand alone. Tire plugs and mini compressor. Hatchet, machete, buck saw. Small First Aid Kit, knife and lighter/matches. Extra batteries for gear and means of charging phones. Expanded tool kit, stock kits arent enough. Cordage and rope. All this stuff I keep on board along with usually 15 L spare fuel.

    • @Maritimer
      @Maritimer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Don ! those are all great items and items I carry every trip basically. This was just the MAIN 5 things you should have in any emergency kit, Cover/Cutting tool/ cordage/ container/ combustion. I think I said that in the video, but maybe not haha
      I do have another video on the other items I keep in my storage box if you'd like to check that out "ATV Emergency kit" and even in that video I forgot a few things haha

    I have a very similar essential kit. A couple differences is a heavy duty poncho that can also be used for a canopy. Also carry a hatchet. My primary ride area is the WV, TN, KY

    • @Maritimer
      @Maritimer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey man ! yep those things could be interchangeable for sure tarp/poncho, knife/hatchet. I also carry a hatchet with me but for my 5 main items I chose the knife.

    Hey Buddy, I had a watch through this vid an gave it the thumbs up way back lol an realized I didn’t get around to throwing in a comment. Just taking a look back through some of the gear videos where it’s soon time to get making tracks with the wheeler an I agree with you on all items you mentioned. I would be game for that playlist for sure! I appreciate your thoughts an reviews on these items! The gear videos got me rethinking what I currently take with me on trips.. let’s just say, there is gonna be some updates for this year in back of the Brute Force! Haha :). Anyways, take care and will see you on the next one! Cheers!

    From SK here, similar climate, have a similar survival kit.
    You covered the must haves nicely.
    I’ll add can of red bull/beer to raise spirits in case I’m stranded for a while.
    My fave survival items are: 1. pre-departure inspection of the Grizz, and 2. letting someone know my trail route and return ETA

    • @Maritimer
      @Maritimer  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey ! a beer always cheers me up ! haha and the Pre-trip inspection and letting someone know your trip are two Very important things, might mention it in a future video !

    Right on man!
    My most important things I take with me
    Fire 🔥 lighter
    MSR dragon fly stove and titanium pot
    Titanium Spork
    32 oz Stainless steel water bottle
    2-50’ 550 cord
    Gortex shell jacket and pants
    Skully hat
    Moss canopy/tarp
    Compass (know how to use it)
    Knife/axe
    Handgun (I live in the US)
    Tire plugs
    First aid
    Air pump
    Tow strap
    Those are the basics that are with at all times!

    • @Maritimer
      @Maritimer  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Looks like a great list AND I am VERY jealous you are able to bring a hand gun with ya in the woods... I sure wish we were allowed ! I'd feel much safer at niht with a .45 or like a 9mm sitting next to me haha Sometimes I buy a varment license so I can bring a .22 or shot gun with me, but they are big and take up room.

    Great vid. I added a Life Straw for filtering water out of a creek and it is awesome. I also and snare wire, fishing line and lures, folding shovel, machetes, folding saw, hatchet and foil blankets. Foil blankets have saved us twice. Also booster pack that can charge thinks and a solar phone charger. 50' of spare winch cable if you need more length, winch block syphon tube Of course tools, spark plugs and belt. And the most important thing is a roll of TP If I pack for a planed overnight trip, I add covered hammock windable flashlight, don't do a tent.

    • @Maritimer
      @Maritimer  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey man ! thanks for watching ! I also have a life straw (I cant remember if I put it in the video) those are all great ideas, it really depends on how big your storage box is on your bike. Yeah a Hammock might be a better idea ! smaller and more compact. thanks for all the ideas !

    • @shaneducholke364
      @shaneducholke364 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Maritimer tough to pack everything, when I go my daughter usually comes and so does her fiance so only I need to take survival stuff and they take the rest, so it is easier. Got stuck in the mountains overnight after a breakdown minimally prepared years ago. Had a lighter for a fire and probably saved our lives and it was -3 deg that night. Since then, I have put together 2 complete survival kits, 2 overnight kits, 1 rescue kit for towing, really stuck or repairs. We take what we need depending on how many go and the surroundings. I go overboard with lighter, Flint starter and waterproof matches. For kindling, cotton balls with vasaline, wetfire blocks and fatwood. I will never be unprepared again. The covers hammocks are great, under 4 lbs and half the size of a loaf at bread.

    • @Maritimer
      @Maritimer  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like you learned from your mistakes ! I can totally relate, I've been with friends who ave broken down and were not prepared AT ALL, luckily I try to always be prepared, and we got them home, but if they were alone, they would have been screwed.

Not saying those gloves are from work, b/c that would be theft lol On the glove they say EXO Ironclad, and they have a leather palm. they are comfortable gloves for sure. thanks again !

    • @Maritimer
      @Maritimer  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey ! man you are 100% right, it was just a cheap plastic tarp, probably from Princess Auto or Canadian tire...... good video!i am thinking of getting a 4 wheeler a 700 grizzle or a 500 pioneer honda .what would you recommend?

    • @Maritimer
      @Maritimer  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Terry ! We'll it all depends what you want to do... if your planning on riding with a partner, nothing beats a SXS, if you mostly ride solo maybe the Grizz would be better. I will say.... a 500cc is a small for a SXS, most people who get a 500 SXS get bored pretty quick, unless you just use it for like hunting or working around the yard, don't plan on getting anywhere quick haha
      I Love Honda though, can't go wrong. Maybe look at the Kawasaki Teryx too, little cheaper than other SXS's but its build quality and the 750CC Twin motor is nice (one knock on the Teryx is they are a little loud in the cab) Hope that helps.

    Do you think a 2 inch lift with spacers will hurt anything?

    • @Maritimer
      @Maritimer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey ! maybe not too much short term but the lift changes the angle of your axels so it is harder on your cv joints and stuff. you will probably need to replace them faster than if you didnt have a lift, but there are a ton of guys lifting there ATV's. I personally dont need a lift for my style riding. if anything, I would just go up a tire size or two, give you some more clearance without a spacer lift.

    • @Maritimer
      @Maritimer  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey buddy, it keeps out dust and water really well ! Better than I expected to be honest. Now if you spray a pressure washer at the lid or you submerge it under water then yeah water will get in, but trail dust, Rain or garden hose water, stays out very good !
