Agree 100% James. The only thing that I would add right from the very start is tire plugs and pump. If I had to limit to 5 I would prob drop the booster pack for this. Yes sir !!! I really wish I mentioned my air compressor... I totally forgot, I meant to mention it along with the tires but I forgot. I HATE sound systems on ATV and SXS.... I think its annoying to hear that in the woods, just the same as I dont care much for loud exhausts.... but people seem to think it's cool or adds a bunch of power to there machine..... putting a slip on exhaust doesnt do much except make noise haha You need a full exhaust to add any power and then you would need to re-tune your bike b/c the motor is set up for a stock exhaust, changing it will change how it all works together Air/Gas/Exhaust...
Been following your channel for years now. Back in 2019 your channel gave me some good insight/inspiration when I purchased my 2019 Grizzly 700 EPS SE. Lot's of good times were had with that quad. Ended up having to relocate for work and needed to sell it as the housing market has just been insane and it was a good chunk of equity. Now I'm settled, missing my ATV and looking to put a new shed up so here I am again! Great video as always. Nothing more relaxing IMO. I almost considered a SXS so I can pack more gear for my trail camps, but I'll probably end up with an ATV as that's what I've always had my whole life and I can get the ATV, trailer, and shed put up for the price of the SXS I want lmao. I'm between a new 700 Grizzly XT-R and a 1000 Outlander XTP. There's just something about those Yamahas and Hondas in terms of reliability. As far back as I can remember we had Yamahas and Hondas growing up. I've never been on a Can Am, but the power is certainly attractive. Not sure if it's worth the trade off though, plus I don't even think I'd need that sort of power on most of the trails I ride. I don't personally know anyone with a Can Am to speak of their dependability. Anyways, end rant. Keep up the great videos!
Hey Dave ! wow thanks so much man, happy to hear you had some fun with your Grizzly. Yeah the housing market and everything right now is just crazy ! Yeah ! They Yamaha or Honda is always a safe trusted choice, super reliable and still fairly light for a ATV. You can't go wrong. The 1000 Can Am is super fun b/c of the power, they are so much more powerful than a grizzly haha but in the end is it worth the extra $$ to have the power? do you really NEED it? or just WANT it? Saying that, Can Am came out with a 700 Outlander which has more power, more options and is Cheaper than the Grizzly... I hope that's a wake up call for Yamaha, they are asking Top dollar for a ATV that has barely changed since 2008 haha there was a upgrade in 2016 but in the end its still a 700 Single cylinder ATV.
Good Choice of items , Yes here in Canada we trail ride in the winter , I find if you use the hand warmers you need a second pair of mitts or gloves ,I cant wear warmer gloves with hand warmers .and carry heaver gloves just in case of break down. 7th item is a wendell lol. always carry a snatch block with the winch, We ride in areas where there isn't very many strong trees to winch from, so we carry a 4 foot piece of rebar one end has a loop in it the other end sharpened, pound in on a angle away from quad and hook winch ,when done drive over and pull out with quad. Thanks again for the Great Video .
Hey man ! all great ideas ! that rebar idea is really good ! I never would have thought of that, luckally we are usually around tree's but I can see how that could help ya !
Nice video buddy!!! Keeps things very simple to the new riders.. I think you were spot on with the beginning mods on a new ride…Only 2 things to add, in my opinion. A tire plug kit, and a means to inflate a tire.
#1 is the winch. #2 is hand warmers. #3 storage. #4 axe or saw. #5 tire plug kit. I have the Heat Demons as well. I do like that the grips are a similar size to stock grips, but I really don't like the controls. I much prefer a toggle type switch, and MUCH prefer something that you move in one direction for more heat and the opposite direction for down. IMO, the heat demons would be better if the thumb and grips were on the same circuit and used the two buttons as up and down, rather than cycling between controls, and then cycling through all the settings in order to adjust them. I also find the indicator lights are way too bright, and really distracting at night. I appreciate your vids. Keep em coming. Oh! I forgot, my number 6, for winter riding, is a windshield. It's amazing how much difference it makes when the weather turns cold. Money well spent!
Hey man ! Yeah I think I said in the video this was Mods for the ATV, so a plug kit/saw/axe aren't really a mod for the ATV, but you're right and those are all things I bring with me too. yeah you are probably right with the controls and the brightness of the LED's to, they can be a bit annoying. YES a windshield does wonders in winter riding ! but I dont know I just cant put one on my machine, I hate the look of it, it reminds me of an old mans bike haha I guess I am old now,,,, maybe I need one haha
Can NEVER have enough Gear on you for the Trail! Just never know what and when you'll need it! All of the mods mentioned in this video are ones that once you need / use them, you won't miss the money you spent on them. Usually when you buy a quality ATV or side by side, the manufacture will put the most economical tires on it. So buying a tire that is a RADIAL and at least a 6 ply makes an incredible difference on the trail! Same with a winch. Trails can turn on you in a blink of an eye! When you are on your way back home or to camp after getting yourself out of a gnarly situation, you'll be glad you got that winch! Great Vid Bud! Important info for Newbies to know! Merry Christmas everyone!
100% with everything you said including No. 6 - heated grips in the winter, always someone out there in the winter riding that is jealous when they realize I have my grips and throttle heated, hand guards are a great addition also.
In me shed, me shed, me lovely little shed - hahahaha! - still loving that song. - - - Just got back from BC, so I'm a little late to the party, but hey . . . Better late than never I say - lol - - - OK, first things first: Grab a beer and have a seat on an old milk crate - CHECK! - - - #1 - check - my 8 ply swamp lites are amazing trail tires and tough as hell! I've been using them for about 7 years now and they still kick butt (yes, the same tires, not just the same brand) - - - #2 - check - love my wench! Errrrrrr, I mean winch - lol - - - #3 - check - love my Kimpex storage box. I've transferred it to 3 different machines already. Now that's value! - - - #4 - double check #5 - quazi-check - I have one, but I don't carry it in my ATV because I have a recoil on my Honda & yes, you can pull start a 520 cc engine. #6 - check - Heat Demon for me as well Good stuff bud! Thanx for sharin'!
Hey Buddy !! I love that song too haha Yes sir, you and I think a like ! all stuff to make sure you have a good safe ride and get out of the woods on your own power, we cant have Scotian pulling us out of the woods, we'd never live it down.... plus he'd probably blow a belt, differential or axle trying to tow another machine out with that Can'd Ham.
I agree with what you said. The box i bought is made by plano and i use it on both my ATV and Side by side. I also carry a block and tackle to so i can double up my winches pulling capacity, i have never used it but its there. One thing i have started carrying is a 12v air compressor and some tire slime along with plugs. Great video.
Hey man !! that block and tackle is a Very good idea ! I've never used one before, but I'd like to get one just incase I needed it. and Yep I always carry an air compressor, I really wish I would have mentioned the air compressor when I was talking about the tires but I totally forgot.
I’m using a Rubbermaid tote box bolted to my back rack. Holds a lot, water and dust proof, and sturdy. It been on for 3 years without a problem. I’ve also found skid plates to be useful
hey Dave ! yep, exactly that works good, it doesn't matter the brand. Skid plates are nice, but I have always just used the stock ones, never had an issue with them.
Yeah for sure,I had Pods on my old Grizzly, but I cant see me exchanging any of the items on my list for a light bar. but after those 5/6 items you can add whatever you want. I'm still trying to find a spot to mount my Pods on my new Grizzly...
New to the atv scene but ive seen the ram mount spotlight and figured that might be a quick fix instead of having lights on the back as well or should i just spend the money on front and back….my brother has a can am sxs and to back up i had to get out and use my headlamp lol
Thanks. I'm getting my first ATV hopefully this week. We are troubleshooting a charging issue. The unit already has good tires. I have a first aid kit, it doesn't have a storage box yet but I have the one I want saved in my cart. I am going to get a fuel container.. The one I get will depend on my storage box. The ATV already has a wench and hand warmers so I am only lacking the two rear items. Not a bad start. I can't wait to get out on the trails here in Washington/Idaho.
Hey ! man it sounds like you are getting a fully equipped machine ! You have all the basics and the most important is tires and winch, so you're all good ! Hope you like it, it's a great way to get out and explore. Cheers !
Great video! All your items are a definite must have. I didn't read all the comments below but I'd also add skid plates as another one especially when you live and ride in rocky areas as we do. Keep up the great content! Cheers!
I found that opening song on the internet several months ago. Love it! As a guide, I would recommend a winch capacity of 3x-4x the weight of your machine. My 1700 lb SxS came with a 3500lb winch. I'm saving to upgrade to a 6,000lb winch. You can get by with a smaller winch if you do a double pull.
hahaha Yeah man I love that song ! and You're right ! it's good to have a bigger winch, my ATV is roughly 600lb empty, my winch is 3000lb so I'm in your range. Yep double pull or if you had a block and shackle set up too.
Maybe you don't ride at night but in an emergency a led light bar or pods would be very helpful, and a tire plug kit with a air source, I got a plug kit with CO2 bottles to air up your tire from Bass Pro. . Nice video.
Hey Dave ! Yeah I wish I would have mentioned a Tire repair kit when I said trail tires haha I even mentioned a flat tire.... Oh well, I always carry a plug kit and air pump. As far as the light bar, yes they are nice but I couldn't see myself getting a light bar over anything I mentioned. Most newer ATV/SXS all hae LED headlights and they are super bright. Once I had the major stuff, then I'd go for those other secondary items. I have a set of Rigid Pod's (from my last ATV) they I just haven't found a spot to mount on my new machine.
@@Maritimer I have a 2021 grizzly with led lights but I still have a 8 inch single row light mounted under my front rack so it doesn't block any air flow to the radiator, I don't ride at night per say but during hunting season I am riding to the trailer in the dark, those lights give out so much more light than stock. Love your videos, keep riding wheels down....lol
You just keep getting better. Thanks for the great list. I noticed the cool shades and thought you might do a clothing and protective gear. Pat for Wendel.
Informative video buddy 👍 Always nice to have an experienced rider share there knowledge of riding with everyone. It can really come in handy out on the trail. Looking forward to seeing you and Wendell do another ride and camping video. Take care and cheers 🍻
Great informational video, I am a seasoned rider from north Pennsylvania, but my SBS.and ATV are kept in my garage in central Maine we’re my wife and I have property and a log cabin, we love to ride up there so we ended up buying a place that we can ride right from the property.I been enjoying all your videos so far keep up the great work. I laugh a little when I see your dog because we just purchased a new side-by-side so we can take our dog also, we ride Kawasaki brute force and now CF Moto Z force 950 owners,my name is John from Pennsylvania .
haha thanks man, it's a good Newfoundland band, "Buddy Washisname" they have a few good songs "Salt Water Joys" "the shed" "the woods" check those out.
As always this was very informative. I’m actually going to build by own storage box. As far as the extra fuel tank it is on my Amazon wish list. The rest of the items I already have and are in place. I absolutely love my three zone Demond hand grip warmers. They kept me very comfortable this past winter while riding and plowing the drive. As alway give Wendell a good belly rub. Oh by the way the shed song is now stuck in my head again. Lol
I love that idea ! customize it how you want it ! Yes I'll give Wendell a belly rub for ya ! haha and 3 zone warmer, does that mean you have a heated seat?
@@Maritimer I don’t have the heated seat yet but I have the option. When I ordered from Amazon it was the only option. So I figured why not. This way I have another upgrade option.
Nice video and everything you mentioned is true and anything more would be bonus. I have everything you said except for the handwarmers but may get a set before winter sets in. One thing I do is carry not just a jug of fuel for myself but a second as well just in case I run into someone that needs it and won`t short myself.
@@Maritimer I have the seat which has the built-in spot for one ,then I attach one to my front rack beside my rack bag. If I was pressed for space I would just take the one but a normal day ride leaves me room so figure whats the harm. I`ve always wondered how you get so much gear on your bike on your overnighters.
Good list! I’d add a small chainsaw to the list. I put a Stihl ms-170 on my front rack where it stays out of most of the mud. Most of the trails around here are user maintained, so if you don’t have a saw, you’d better hope your buddy brought one or it might be a short ride.
Hey kev ! Yep, I wanted to keep this list to 5, and a Chainsaw is great to have on your machine, I cen't see me getting a chainsaw before a winch, tires, etc..... gotta get the main things down first then you can add the chainsaw, light bars and stuff. Of course a lot of us have had a chainsaw long before out ATV, so I guess throwing it on your machine wouldn't be a bad idea. haha
Your list is right on !! But there is on other item that I cannot ride without and that is " over handlebars mittens ". They are water proof with a thick layer of polar fleece inside. Combined with heated grips I can ride my atv with small wool gloves. Take care man !!
Hey ! I've used those grips on a friends machine before, I was a little thrown off b/c I wasn't able to see the light switches and stuff, so I wasnt a big fan, Im sure I could get used to it though. I know they work really well.
My old Kawasaki KVF650 had a pull cord. It was nasty to pull over, but saved me at least once. My new 21' Kodiak doesn't have it, but I think I will pick up one of those booster packs you mentioned!
Hey man ! my buddy had one of them Kawi 650's and man that thing made power, such a ruggen machine. he beat the hell out of it haha Yep with the Kodiak the Booster pack is a good idea, plus it can charge your cell phone.
@@Maritimer yes. I monted in my Kawasaki Brute Force 300 powermad sentinel handguard and mirrors from same brand specific for this handguards. Is more safe. In Portugal ( i'm in Faial island- Azores) we can ride ATVs on local roads legal
I live in the southeast U.S. so I would trade the heated grips for a good set of stick stoppers. We don't have the luxury of groomed trails (I wish we did) so they REALLY help protect your boots etc. from rocks, limbs you name it.
@@Maritimer Yeah, that's exactly what they are. I think Stick Stoppers may have been one of the first aftermarket brands to make them so the name just stuck. If you google stick stoppers now it just brings up a boat load of different A-arm protectors/skid plates.
Lol. I’m in FL and like the stick stopper. Am I the only one who rides with a spider pole? Removable piece of CPVC on front to take out the spider webs and gigantic spiders!
@@LivinginOldFlorida I'll run one when I'm cutting a new trail or if I'm going to be riding tight trails early AM. Nothing worse than a big nasty spider in the face...talk about getting the blood going! Yikes.
Excellent video and mods! I have the same Yamaha box, and just added small L brackets under the 6 factory bolts. The L brackets already had holes, so I just rounded the corners smooth. They are awesome anchors for bungee cords, and now my tools and gear don’t bounce around.
Great video as usual. Just wondering about your instal on the 1.75 gal rotopax gas container. Can’t find the video on the install….I installed two 1 gal rotopax containers on plastic lid of Yamaha storage box…..Don’t like the loose nuts and bolts through the plastic lid because of air gap between top and bottom of lid. How did you instal the fuel tank, has it held up without any cracking in lid and have any of the fastening bolts/nuts come unloose on bumpy rides, or did you tack weld nuts to the double nut bracket on bottom?
Hey man ! thank you !I didn't do a video on installing my gas tank b/c I wanted to wait to make sure it would hold up before sharing it with you guys. I used a hole saw and removed the 2nd layer of plastic (under the lid) then mounted the mount to the single line of plastic but used large washers on the other side to displace the force. and mine came with lock nuts so I haven't had any issues with it coming loose, no plastic cracking either. My plan is to remove the bigger washers and make one Big aluminum plate to mount in there place on the inside of my lid, to really displace the weight.
Good video and great list to start with. After considering your list I'd add GPS (beyond what a cell phone app can do outside of cell range) and would suggest the Garmin inReach series (I have the mini). And, also thinking outside of cell range, I'd add communications, specifically a HAM radio. If someone is not into HAM radio, then go back to the Garmin inReach, because it can also text using their satellite system, so communication can be established that way, too. Good stuff, and glad you had an enjoyable day in the garage. The salmon looked fantastic! Cheers! Pete - KI7LIL
Hey pete ! thats a good idea ! but I'm not sure where I'd mount a HAM radio on my ATV hahahaha I get what you're saying though, they are nice to have.thanks for watching buddy !!
@@Maritimer Yeah, I wouldn't mount a mobile radio like I did in my Jeep, but would carry a smaller (walkie-talkie sized) radio if I needed it. I really like my Icom ID-51A (the ID-52A is coming out soon), and Yaesu makes good radios, too. The Garmin inReach mini goes with me on every trip and may be the better option for most folks, for navigation and communication. Cheers!
Great video thanks for the heads up. I was thinking myself on getting a dual rack extension setup as the new Can-am I was going to buy has a small storage already. I was going to my bags as the storage and tie them down. I know very well how to water proof my gear many years of hiking here in Nova Scotia, where it gets wet and muddy followed by fog and freezing. Would the double rack be in advisable and if so why?
Hey man ! yeah I'm sure it would work for ya, I've personally never had one so you'd really have to try it out. Ohhh man I know all about the NS weather haha can be rough at time.
hahahaha thats a great idea ! I wonder if I could find one that plugs into a 12v outlet for those colder winter rides, keep his little paws and butt warm haha
Problem with those booster packs Is they just don't last, bought a good Noco one for several hundred bucks and it couldn't hold a charge like hardly 2 years later. Booster cables are great if you don't ride alone. Maybe one of those super capacitor boosters would be a good solo option, haven't had a good chance to test mine yet but reviews on them look decent and no need to charge then so they can't drain on ya when in storage
Hey man ! wow really??? thats too bad, mine is just a Motomaster, not as good as a Noco, but I've had mine for like 5 years now and it still works great. Same goes for my wife, two brothers and my father.... maybe give a Moto master one a try...
My dad is giving me his wench off the Argo. He knows it's powerful and can pull a much bigger machine than mine. He feels better knowing I have a good wench. Plus, it gives him the excuse to buy an even bigger one for the Argo (which he's wanted for awhile but couldn't justify).
Hey ! Yeah that's a good thing to have, my ATV has that, but would you chose that Over any of the 5 I mentioned in the video? There is a laundry list of mod's you can do, my video was more directed towards the first mods you should do. Thanks for watching and commenting I appreciate it. Cheers !
@Maritimer I wouldn't necessarily place it above anything for long tail rides, except possibly the grip heaters. And those are definitely mandatory on mine.. lol! But could add it in with the winch as a rear recovery item.
What's up bud! These are easy mods to have done to your ATV. I don't think I would recommend anything to get someone started on a trail stable machine. I've been riding without extra gas for a while and I think it is time that I get a Rotopax gas container. I hope all is well man. Take care.
Thanks man, and I'm a dummy and totally forgot to mention my air compressor when I mentioned the tires..... I almost didn't upload the video b/c of that haha
Hey ! I used to use a Milk crate but I recently found a larger plastic crate in the garbage bin at work, it's 15" wide (milk crate was 12") so it's a bit bigger, gives Wendell more room.
Hey Chris ! No sorry i dont have any videos of that ol bike, just pictures, and I screwed up, my Prarie was a 360. it was a good machine, not quite fast enough for me at that age haha all my friends had race quads and big bore ATV's, and my little 360 was pretty slow haha
Hey ! I Have a video installing them, I got power from my ignition, so that when the ket turns off, they turn off, it's easy to do. video is on my channel. thanks!!
Do you carry any form of JACK and a compressor for tyre/tire inflation? I'm carrying a Bottle Jack, but it is heavy and looking for a small Scissor Jack. Do you ever need to reduce tyre/tire pressure and then inflate again? My old Honda 650 still has the Pull Starter and a cigarette lighter jack so as long as I have battery power, I can inflate tyres/tires after a repair or a deflate for bad terrain.
Hey man ! yes I always carry plugs and tire inflator. I forgot to mention it in the video but I've mentioned it in other videos. plus this is more of Mod's you can do to the ATV, not stuff to bring with ya. I wish I would have mentioned it though...
@@Maritimer Yes, I accept this is a Mods Video, I just jumped in on it with my questions. You did mention the Tyre/Tire Plugs, but I'm interested to know if you carry a Jack and if so, what type. You can just steer me towards one of your earlier videos if it is covered there. Thank you for your patience and reply.
@@RobertsBulgaria Ohhh sorry ! No I dont carry a jack with me, I'd be hoping to use rocks.log to prop it up and be able to get the tire off that way. No room for a jack.
@@Maritimer Fair enough. I cannot rely on having either trees or rocks where I ride so a bottle or scissor jack is a must for me. Thank you for your reply as it has clarified the differing situations we might find ourselves in when out in the Bush a longways from base.
Any issues with the 700 engine, I’m looking at a used 2018 with 1000 miles. A little hesitant but I think by the 2018 model year they would have the issues fixed? Does yours use any oil? How many miles do you have own it? Thanks.
Hey man ! No issues at all with mine, I believe I have 3500km on it now. I really dont understand it, some people have oil issues and some people don't... I don't even think Yamaha knows why haha I would say that sometimes it depends on how well the person broke it in and treated the machine. I'm fairly easy on my machines, I let it warm up a bit before I ride it, I dont run it at top speed for extended periods of time, keep up with maintenance....
Groomed trails? In NS we have to get off most trails and let the sled boys go. It’s kind of sucky but the sled heads claim the ruts make it too hard. So we are banished on the groomed trails.
Hey man ! Yeah I know all about NS trails, thats too bad, but the sledders do have a point, our ruts do cause them issues, And they travel so fast a rut could cause an accident. Here in NB in the winter there are Sled only trails which we would be shot if we ride on haha but some of the ATV clubs have Groomers, so they groom the trails in the winter, then they are usually "shared" so the sledders can ride them if they want. But generally don't b/c of the ruts haha
Hey man ! thats true, and I do carry extra fuses for my machine, saying that, this video is the top mods, I dont think you'd trade fuses for any of the mods I chose would ya? haha I do have 4+ video on ATV/UTV Essentials - 1) First Aid 2)Recovery Gear 3)Trail Tools 4) Survival gear. thanks for watching !!
Hey ur right about it being about top mods so I guess the device u carry to start the bike if it has a dead battery isn't considered a mod either more of an accessory the only real mods u listed are tires and winch
Hi Mr. Maritimer! I really enjoyed this video. I watched yours while I was uploading my own video, which happens to be kind of a similar video, right down to offering more than 5 suggestions for my top 5 ATV mods, haha. Mine is a bit different, and I realized this thanks to your video, so I changed the title to better represent who my mod choices are for. So thank you for not only making your own video list for my benefit, but for helping me with my own.
It is always handy to be equipped in case. i like being able to help someone else out. You never know when the favour will return.
Hey ! You're so right ! it could even be someone in your group who needs help.
So damn true. Look at it like, if u were in trouble, wouldn't u want anyone to help
All good advice for first mods. Love that shed song at the start. Thanks for the video.
thanks a lot buddy ! it's a good tune ! haha
Yes sir ! Tires and Winch are the most important for sure. Cheers buddy !
100% with everything you said including No. 6 - heated grips in the winter, always someone out there in the winter riding that is jealous when they realize I have my grips and throttle heated, hand guards are a great addition also.
thanks a lot man ! yeah the heated grips are a must for winter riding.
In me shed, me shed, me lovely little shed - hahahaha! - still loving that song. - - -
Just got back from BC, so I'm a little late to the party, but hey . . . Better late than never I say - lol - - -
OK, first things first: Grab a beer and have a seat on an old milk crate - CHECK! - - -
#1 - check - my 8 ply swamp lites are amazing trail tires and tough as hell! I've been using them for about 7 years now and they still kick butt (yes, the same tires, not just the same brand) - - -
#2 - check - love my wench! Errrrrrr, I mean winch - lol - - -
#3 - check - love my Kimpex storage box. I've transferred it to 3 different machines already. Now that's value! - - -
#4 - double check
#5 - quazi-check - I have one, but I don't carry it in my ATV because I have a recoil on my Honda & yes, you can pull start a 520 cc engine.
#6 - check - Heat Demon for me as well
Good stuff bud! Thanx for sharin'!
Hey Buddy !! I love that song too haha
Yes sir, you and I think a like ! all stuff to make sure you have a good safe ride and get out of the woods on your own power, we cant have Scotian pulling us out of the woods, we'd never live it down.... plus he'd probably blow a belt, differential or axle trying to tow another machine out with that Can'd Ham.
@@Maritimer . . . 🤣🤣🤣 . . . that's so funny! I could've sworn I read, "have Scotian pull us out" - BAHAHAHA! Like that would ever happen!😂😂😂
Action Packer and Plano boxes are really good choices.
No. 7. A lightbar or cube lights really do add safety, enjoyment and add a sense of security to night rides.
Cheers!
Hey man thanks a lot ! yeah better skid plates are good to have for sure. Cheers!
I love that song in the opening. Cheers
haha thanks ! it's "the shed Song" by Buddywashisname. NFLD group.
Just wanted to watch again to say congrats on the 10k.👍
Hey ! thanks a lot Mike ! big milestone for me, im super happy to reach this point.
Great Vid on getting the right parts... and congrats on 10K brotha...
thanks a lot buddy ! always appreciate your support !
Hey ! thanks a lot Glen ! I'll be sure to give Wendell a Pat for ya !
Informative video buddy 👍 Always nice to have an experienced rider share there knowledge of riding with everyone. It can really come in handy out on the trail. Looking forward to seeing you and Wendell do another ride and camping video. Take care and cheers 🍻
Hey man ! thank you ! I'd love to get out for a camping trip here soon, weather is weird, either 40*C too hot or Pouring rain... haha
hehehehe...great intro song and an informative video!
thanks buddy ! I love that song haha
Thanks for the Shout out! If you hold your select button for a few seconds, it turns the grips off
Hey man ! No problem at all, Your buddy put me up to it haha OH I didn't know that about the Grips, I'll give it a try.
As always great video and great idea for mods 👍🏻
thanks man ! the main thing is going out and enjoying the woods AND most important, getting home safe haha
Hey man ! thank a lot !! and thats great you guys can take your dog with ya, they love being in the woods ! Wendell always comes back tired haha
Love intro song. Great video thanks for sharing
haha thanks man, it's a good Newfoundland band, "Buddy Washisname" they have a few good songs "Salt Water Joys" "the shed" "the woods" check those out.
@@Maritimer and "the yammie", not many can start a v8 with a pull cord.
Another great video. Thanks for sharing
thanks a lot man !
Nice video and everything you mentioned is true and anything more would be bonus. I have everything you said except for the handwarmers but may get a set before winter sets in. One thing I do is carry not just a jug of fuel for myself but a second as well just in case I run into someone that needs it and won`t short myself.
Hey buddy ! thats a really good idea (the second gas jug) How do you find room on your ATV for that?
@@Maritimer I have the seat which has the built-in spot for one ,then I attach one to my front rack beside my rack bag. If I was pressed for space I would just take the one but a normal day ride leaves me room so figure whats the harm. I`ve always wondered how you get so much gear on your bike on your overnighters.
Good list! I’d add a small chainsaw to the list.
I put a Stihl ms-170 on my front rack where it stays out of most of the mud. Most of the trails around here are user maintained, so if you don’t have a saw, you’d better hope your buddy brought one or it might be a short ride.
same here i carry Stihl ms-170 , Hell Stihl even stock a plastic holder to bolt on front carry rack for the saw !
Agreed with all six mod's. I would add a 7th. Aftermarket gas shocks ie Elka or Fox.
I agree ! Great mod if you can afford the $$. Elka's are super nice shocks.
My old Kawasaki KVF650 had a pull cord. It was nasty to pull over, but saved me at least once. My new 21' Kodiak doesn't have it, but I think I will pick up one of those booster packs you mentioned!
Hey man ! my buddy had one of them Kawi 650's and man that thing made power, such a ruggen machine. he beat the hell out of it haha
Yep with the Kodiak the Booster pack is a good idea, plus it can charge your cell phone.
Wendell didn't make the list!! I won't tell him if you don't.. lol.. great video 👍 keep them coming 👍
haha Wendell is #7 !!! haha
I recommend hands protectors and mirrors for those ride in groups
Great ideas man ! Would you change out any of the 5 things I mentioned for Hand guards or a mirror?
@@Maritimer yes. I monted in my Kawasaki Brute Force 300 powermad sentinel handguard and mirrors from same brand specific for this handguards. Is more safe. In Portugal ( i'm in Faial island- Azores) we can ride ATVs on local roads legal
I live in the southeast U.S. so I would trade the heated grips for a good set of stick stoppers. We don't have the luxury of groomed trails (I wish we did) so they REALLY help protect your boots etc. from rocks, limbs you name it.
Hey ! What are stick stoppers? I haven't heard of that... or are they like A-Arm protectors/skid plates?
Yikes.
@@LivinginOldFlorida oh so that's what those r for. I really hate those spiders man
. Totally making 1 for myself
Another great video with good advice.
thanks man !
Excellent video and mods! I have the same Yamaha box, and just added small L brackets under the 6 factory bolts. The L brackets already had holes, so I just rounded the corners smooth. They are awesome anchors for bungee cords, and now my tools and gear don’t bounce around.
Hey Alan ! thanks a lot man ! I love that L-Bracket idea ! keep this fully secured in the box, I might steal that idea haha
Good video! Thanks for sharing..,
Thanks Denis !!
Great ideas, love the channel
Hey Brian, thanks a lot man !
I would also add a tyre puncture kit and under body protection.
Hey Kyle, yep a tire kit is always important, and I have one with me all the time, This was more mods for the ATV not just gear to bring.
@@Maritimer yes definatly. Love your video Man keep up the good work!
Cheers!
Great list man😉👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾
thanks my friend !
Nice video all great things to have for sure . A one beer video I see lol 😆
hahaha Short video = 1 beer lol
Great video thanks for the heads up. I was thinking myself on getting a dual rack extension setup as the new Can-am I was going to buy has a small storage already. I was going to my bags as the storage and tie them down. I know very well how to water proof my gear many years of hiking here in Nova Scotia, where it gets wet and muddy followed by fog and freezing. Would the double rack be in advisable and if so why?
Hey man ! yeah I'm sure it would work for ya, I've personally never had one so you'd really have to try it out. Ohhh man I know all about the NS weather haha can be rough at time.
wendell needs a heated pad lol... love your vids brother
hahahaha thats a great idea ! I wonder if I could find one that plugs into a 12v outlet for those colder winter rides, keep his little paws and butt warm haha
@@Maritimer I picked up a heated vest for half decently cheap and then I just got a battery pack for it
Merci pour les informations et le video.
Merci ! No problem at all, thanks for watching !
Hey ! thats great ! and yes having a winch is a must !
A hitch on the back for an attachment point in case ya need to it pulled backwards.
@@froglaps40 Ohhhh ok ok yeah that all sounds good too. thanks for watching !
Great list.
Thanks man !!
What's up bud! These are easy mods to have done to your ATV. I don't think I would recommend anything to get someone started on a trail stable machine. I've been riding without extra gas for a while and I think it is time that I get a Rotopax gas container. I hope all is well man. Take care.
Hey man ! thanks !! Yeah I had a few close calls with running out of gas so I decided to get a fuel pack. Take er easy buddy !

Cool fact about your grizzly is you can push start it because of the engine breaking
Hey ! I didn't know that ! any videos on TH-cam showing how to do that? I remember jump starting my old dirtbike, but it had a clutch.
Hey question. What are u using for dig in front of bike? Milk crate?
Hey ! I used to use a Milk crate but I recently found a larger plastic crate in the garbage bin at work, it's 15" wide (milk crate was 12") so it's a bit bigger, gives Wendell more room.
Don't forget to start every shed project with a beer!
haha Always !

thanks BilL !!
Maybe a small chain saw.
Yep ! always nice to have, I have a 270 Stil, but would you choose a chainsaw over anything on my list of 5?
You mentioned that you had a Prairie 300. I myself ride a Prairie 300, do you have any older vids of Prairie stuff?
Hey Chris ! No sorry i dont have any videos of that ol bike, just pictures, and I screwed up, my Prarie was a 360. it was a good machine, not quite fast enough for me at that age haha all my friends had race quads and big bore ATV's, and my little 360 was pretty slow haha
@@Maritimer Thanks for the reply! My 300 is by no means a screamer =) But it gets me where I want to go!
What did u hook ur heated grips up to so they come on and off with the turn of ur key
A little late to the party. I have all those mods plus number 7 especially in the cold is my windshield.
Ohhh yeah man a windshield is awesome in the winter, I just hate the look of them, haha
I'm fairly easy on my machines, I let it warm up a bit before I ride it, I dont run it at top speed for extended periods of time, keep up with maintenance....
the battery charger/starter i didn't really consider. thanks! what amperage unit wouldyou recommend?
Hey ! mine is 750A/Hr I believe. but it's meant for a car, so you will be safe for sure.
@@Maritimer thanks for info!
Don't forget about extra fuses for ur atv or sxs
Hey man ! thats true, and I do carry extra fuses for my machine, saying that, this video is the top mods, I dont think you'd trade fuses for any of the mods I chose would ya? haha I do have 4+ video on ATV/UTV Essentials - 1) First Aid 2)Recovery Gear 3)Trail Tools 4) Survival gear. thanks for watching !!
Hey ur right about it being about top mods so I guess the device u carry to start the bike if it has a dead battery isn't considered a mod either more of an accessory the only real mods u listed are tires and winch
