  • We are back with some big news! We have a new monkey joining our family, he's a Tamarin and what some people call Finger Monkeys. This is our 5th monkey in the troop and we are very excited to show everyone. You can also see one of our other monkeys in this video named Aria. This species is a very unique species so check out the video and let us know what you think!

    I was thinking They both looked like little gremlins before they changed to the mean ones!
    I just don't get keeping animals in small cages, I've seen dogs in people's houses in a small can barely turn around cage and they are not very social or very good pets because of it and they certainly arent happy. I'm sure scotty will open up and be even friendlier once He gets used to his large space. Thank you for providing a great home for them. Always glad to see a new video from my favorite Florida couple!

      It seems to be something that happens so much, and how someone looks at an animal and thinks jts ok is beyond me. There's an area near where I work where we are constantly calling DAS bc the dogs being kept in tiny crates under trees and sometimes in the sun under pecies of wood. I think some people completely lack empathy.
      Thanks man, we are so happy to have Scott here and he's been doing great. You can see him slide off the bamboo, bc he's never climbed around before, but now he runs around and climbs and leaps like an actual monkey. He's also beefing up and looking great!

    • @TobiesTroop
      @TobiesTroop  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its our house but to the state it's considered a "facility" we take in a few exotic animals a year that need homes. We can't take all the animals that people try and bring us or we would be overwhelmed. We do plan on working more into native wildlife rehabilitation in the future too! Florida there's just so many laws and regs doing anything with wildlife

      @@TobiesTroop there is definitely some truth to that statement. My first monkey a old world Colobus back around 1990 was purchased from a broker out of Ohio that had access to retired lab animals. I was just a kid that didn't know anything or else I probably would have looked other places for my first NHP but he turned out to be a great pet and friend. Regardless 3 months of having him back in Florida (Tarpon Springs graduate) I got a visit from our local game Warden looking for my class A permit.... Oh sh__! A little begging and pleading went a long way and I was given the time to get the proper paperwork in order. Never try and side step the FWC people. They have magic powers 😅. I will do my part in sharing your channel and see if we can get you out of that day to day job. Maybe I will bump into you all over the next couple of weeks if you're in the Silver Springs area.

    Great to see you guys there. I don't know why I didn't get the notification. Btw, I learned something which might interest you since you got a new camera. Under 1080 youtube use codecs which compress a lot the image. But if you upload at 1440p (even if you upscale the image from the 1080p) youtube will use the better codec on your vidéos even under 1440p. It's a french youtuber who records in 4k who gave me the tip recently.

      @TobiesTroop  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Nicolas, I think whenever we take a small break and don't post much, YT doesn't promote the videos as much?

      @@TobiesTroop I only heard about it lately, when my friend was wondering why his 1080p shots were pixelated. TH-cam told him they needed more room on servers so they use 2 different codecs now.

    Keep churning out that good content. I like how you emphasize multiple times that you have security. It is sad that not only do animal enthusiast have to worry about theives, we also have to watch out for animal rights nuts that mig t not even take an animal... just let it loose. I used to lecture my customers on the importance of secure yards and secure animal enclosures. I really emphasized this to my Serval customers. If they could be seen from the road there is no doubt that they will get stolen eventually. One customer called me about his Serval getting stolen. I asked him did he lock the enclosure and ensure it could not be seen... of course not. No padlock... nada. I was so pissed.

      Man it is crazy what keepers have to deal with, theives, AR nuts and have you kept up with what's going on in Florida and all the laws they are passing and changing? I'm all for animal welfare and shutting down the ones doing bad things to animals, but Ty lost all those iguanas that were being well cared for, its just sad that the animals have to pay the price 😢. But as far as theirves, that's one thing we are worried about and have been beefing up security. we have been installing cameras all over, including along the street to monitor which cars are.coming.around. we have 3 big dogs who roam where we keep the monks and lots of 🔫 🔫 🔫. Also our neighbors have dogs and and 🔫 🔫 🔫 too. How in the heck does someone steal a serval cat that's insane 😳 😐

Now I want to move into that monkey enclosure and have food delivered whilst I snoozed in my own personal hammock!! How much land do you guys have?? I grew up on 100 acres in NJ and now I'm reduced to less than a quarter acre, but I so miss having some elbow (monkey) room!! Eager to check out Tobie's reaction to these two cuties!! Hey Jim! Do they not have the coolest hair LOL? It's my favorite thing about them.... we both REALLY live Tamarins, you should check out Emperor Tamarins and Golden Lion Tamarins, those are our other two favorites! We live on 5 acres atm, in a 'semi-rural" area of South Florida. 100 acres in NJ? I have family in NJ (Burgen county) and it's so developed, I can't imagine anyone living on land there its all houses. I did a video on herping NJ/NY last summer never got around to editing it unfortunately.
      Ok so funny you mention that, our parents joke about being old and a "burden" and what to do with them and we always tell them we are going to put them in their own monkey cages with hammocks out back 🤣🤣🤣

      @@TobiesTroop Interesting (yes, snake topic!!) quick side note to my parents 100 NJ farm (Sussex County). We had about a dozen horses boarded there and three dozen Black Angus cattle with multiple bins of grain and feed which naturally attracted a ton of monster rats! Our barn cats were scared off by these rodent hoodlums. Finally, this one local rancher told us the secret rat eradicator.......huge Eastern black rat snakes! My little brother and I went on a quest.....found two monsters (I'm tall but we have a picture of me holding the one up in the air with its tail on the ground!! Again....this is NJ!) and within a week or two after release in the main barn?? Not a rodent in sight!! We definitely made those two (Pantherophis Alleghaniensis....impressed??!!) snake's day!! Hahaha I'm very impressed with the use of the binomial sounds like you've been doing some snake research bc you used current taxonomy!

    • @TobiesTroop
      @TobiesTroop  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Soooo Tobie loves all our other animals (aside from the dogs), and Aria the older cottontop helped raise Tobie as a baby, but once he hit maturity she started attacking him. He still wants to play with her and she does not feel the same.
      In theory, yes, but they have to be compatable. It's been a month or so and we have seen no breeding interests. If they do have babies, cool, we will just build more amd bigger cages and they will live with us forever. If they don't we are just happy scottie has a good life and Aria has a new friend 😀
