    This was a great video of the progressions of the 991..........I happen to own one (991.2 and not my first Porsche) and absolutely love it! Oh Yeah..........I’ve been driving Porsches as my daily drivers for the past 40+ years and all have been “base models” with manual transmissions! PS: I’m now 76 years old and still drive somewhere every single day! Once again........a wonderful video!

      @@richeisele7174 Great car, Rich! I have a friend who has your exact model and only drives it on Saturday mornings. I always ask.......Why? Such a fantastic car to just leave in the garage? Makes no sense to me. Have you seen the Petrolicious video about Matt Euson and his Singer? His attitude is exactly like mine........I don’t buy Porsches as investments........only to drive them and get the enjoyment. I don’t obsess over my cars either.......a few rock chips or scratches don’t really bother me. If I have to worry about those things, I’d be driving a pickup truck. Stay well and safe.

    First of all, thank you for producing such excellent videos about my favourite car (the Porsche 911) - the in-depth information and your style of presenting make them very enjoyable and remind me of the original Top Gear.
    As the proud owner of a somewhat unique, 991.1 C4S Exclusive (with 50th Anniversary detailing), I feel that despite what 'purists' may believe, it's an excellent example of all that's good in a late model 911.
    Lighter than the 997 it replaced and with as much power as the previous Turbo. Equipped with a Porsche Sports Exhaust, its engine sounds glorious when stretched towards the redline but is just as capable of delivering excellent fuel economy in everyday driving.
    Unlike the rarer and more track biased GT cars, it's chassis is composed on rough surfaces and delivers a sporting but comfortable ride (especially when fitted with the DSC Sport PASM controller)..
    Most of the time the 4S is in fact a rear wheel drive car and whilst there's a small trade-off in weight (70kg) and steering feel, the cars ability to shuttle power to the front wheels when driving close to the limit, tightens the front end and allows the driver to make rapid progress, with considerable confidence, whatever the road or weather conditions.
    Visually, the 4S might not shout about its capabilities but with the exception of the Turbo, it's a blisteringly fast car point to point and all the better for being naturally aspirated.
    Some 911's are rarer, some are more 'classic' but IMHO, the 991.1 C4S really is all the 911 anyone could need on the road.

    After several months looking for a V8 convertible with at least 400bhp I finally settled on a 2018 991.2 Carrera S which I've now had for a week. The scream from the flat 6 more than makes up for the 2 missing cylinders. It also came with 2 years Porsche warranty, a major service & new tyres so no bills for a while which makes up for going £25K over budget.😉

      There’s truth there, I think. I think you could argue that the 997.1 was the same for the 996 given engines and gearboxes were carried over albeit with a different style.

    • @porscheguy5848
      @porscheguy5848 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could say the same with 997 with the 991. It’s a completely different 911 with the structure and how it is set up. Any .2 car is just a face lift with minor increments that make it slightly better. 991 and 992 are more different than simply a 991.3

      Buy one things for sure, the 991.2 GTS with a little help from a strong aftermarket is possibly the most interesting and flexible 911 ever.

      @@artemusifasuenshuffleman8535 I think you are right, the powerkit to my knowledge was only for S cars, and very limited offering so they are very rare.
      I will raise a counterpoint to the GTS outlaw, Carrera T (I own one). It has the GTS suspension and lightweight aspect (mine has buckets and no backseat), and GTS turbos+tune are $6k and I have a 600hp car with a manual and LSD w/ torque vectoring and optional rear axle steer/carbon brakes. That might even be the better deal vs. a GTS in today's market but manual T's are hovering over $110k right now so who knows!

  • @johnthiam2446
    @johnthiam2446 ปีที่แล้ว

    Everyone talks about carrera T being a parts bin model which is not. It has its own characteristic, engine mounted 2 inches further front for better handling, spoiler raised higher than any base models and comes standard with PASM sport suspension which is equipped with stiffer anti-roll bars and handles corner much better than S model. Besides, its base engine is a sweet spot because it emulated the NA feeling while being turbocharged. S and GTS due to enormous torques of more than 500NM, it has some turbo lags and sudden power surge.

    Personally, my accessible and reasonable dream car, so not "money-no-issue" dream car, is the 2012 Carrera S in black with grey Sport Techno rims. Around 70k. First iteration of the 991 with the narrow body, cleanest look and not insanely expensive on the second hand market. Money no-issue, I think I'd get either a Singer, a GT3 touring or a 911r but the first one of the first 200 produced destined to 918 owners in white with red stripes, absolute perfection.
    New 992 are not my thing, too wide, chunky back, it's not that elegant anymore. And also, not a fan of the 4 points-led and straight lines on the bonnet in general.
    Old models are good for purists etc. But maintenance must be stupid high, and interior is just too old for me. I want to listen to spotify while cruising.

    7:09 “Porsche went on to spoil the legacy of the car by producing the GT3 Touring…” Wrong. With the GT3 Touring, Porsche just made much of the R experience available for more people to enjoy. Andreas Preuninger said of the R: “I don't want them standing around in dark garages collecting dust”. The true legacy of the R is that Porsche made a manual transmission GT3 again, just as they had with the 997, 996, 993. They also worked really hard to make a new, brilliant 6-speed manual, rather than use the 991 Carrera’s rubbery 7-speed manual. Learnings from the R’s manual shifter informed development of the 991.2 and 992.
