    Hi Mel,
I really enjoyed your story; it's captivating and sure to draw in more viewers. By the time you read this, you've probably already found a suitable and affordable option. If not, there are ways to lower insurance costs. You can reduce the mileage to 10,000 miles per year, adjust the cover value, add security features like decals on the van roof with the registration number, a dash cam, and a tracker. The number of drivers and your no-claim bonus years will also impact your insurance premium.
For example, my 2009 Nissan Interstar MWB (registered as a motor caravan) is insured comprehensively for £20,000. I pay £385 annually, which should decrease as my no-claim bonus builds. Having multiple policies with the same insurer can also reduce costs; I have both my van and two properties under one policy with Admiral Insurance.
I recommend trying Admiral Insurance; they might surprise you with their rates. If you're serious about selling your van, including possibly trading it, I'm interested. Could you let me know your asking price? Perhaps we could arrange a swap, balancing any price difference with cash.

    Mate, I feel for you......😢
I recently retired having worked all my life, never once ever being unemployed. I've swept streets, emptied bins, worked as a sewer rat and finally ended my working life as a contracts manager. For my retirement, we decided to take a fair chunk of our savings and bought a professionally converted NV200 (65 plate) for those day trips and short trips away. It has a small fresh water tank, two burner gas hobb and tap, small worktop area, stowaway table, rear bench seat and electric operated R&R double bed, propex blown gas heater, poptop roof and a solar panel ❤. To anyone who has seen it, it's a campervan, well at least you would think so, but not according to DVLA. They say my conversion does not meet their criteria therefore I have had to keep it as a PLG vehicle. Now my point....... trying to insure it was so up and down, the quotes were all over the place and I almost decided to give up and sell it, no doubt at a loss. My lifesaver came in the shape of "HOWDENS" insurance, fantastic customer service and the cheapest by far. I know others have insured their vehicles for less, but for me £398 all in, including EU travel was fair. Van lifers and campervanners are being targeted in the push to get leisure vehicles off the road 😞. Conspiracy...... No, it's clear to see. Unless you are rich and can afford to pay the extortionist prices, we are being squeezed off the roads. Good luck in your search for a fair deal...... 🙏🙏

Insurance companies aren't going to want to risk it for nothing. Plus in this country there are virtually NO repercussions for stealing a vehicle! Thats why thefts are at an all time high, especially for desirable vehicle's 😢

I was with SAGA on a three year deal which was £320 a year for a Honda Jazz. After 3 years the renewal quote was £1700 all but a few pence , for a further yearly 3 year cover. I had to shop around and finally managed to get a quote for £720 from Tesco. As a pensioner this to me is horrendous . The public are being ripped off by successive Governments that are unable to run the country properly. Someone somewhere is making a massive fortune out of the general public ,prices are just going through the roof everywhere and unless you can offset your bills against your income tax payments in a few years time everything will just grind to a halt.

Surely apart from general insurance price hikes, much of the reason for the extortionate quote is their estimate of the value they are now insuring. If you just asked to insure the Van as it was when you bought it, you wouldn't have any cover for the work you have put in but it might halve the insurance cost.

According to DVLA, what you use it for is what you insure it as. Many have asked the same question since they stopped re-registering motor caravans. Insurance companies will insure it a Motor Caravan if you state it as being one. Some ask for photo's, some don't.

I lived in buses and big trucks for over a decade, as long as you have the most of the correct furniture and importantly it doesn't have an excess off loading space for goods, mist test centres will let you test it on a regular MOT. Regardless of the logbook.
I took a bus in that was imported from Jersey, as scrap, it had no valid UK plates or logbook.
I bought classic vehicle insurance with the chasis number, so I could drive it to a test centre, I got the MOT with the chasis number on it, as it had a basic conversion. I was then able to get age related plates and a log book.

There is lots of disparity with insurance companies. Can't see how yours is a HGV if the MGW is 7500Kg though. It's not a HGV until over 7500 MGW, unless it's a private HGV, in which case you can still drive it on a car licence as long as you passed your test years ago. I'm sure this is a deliberate cliffhanger and by the next episode you'll have miraculously found something more affordable. As others have said change the tax bracket to private HGV and it'll only be £270 a year to tax.
