  • Revel's first offering in the trail bike category is a winner. With 130mm of root and rock smashing travel, the Rascal is in a category of its own - Enduro-lite. Full flavor with half the calories.

      Glad you liked it. The Rascal felt pretty confident on those trails. Makes it easier to let off the coward levers a little bit.

    I'm very intrigued by your comments placing the feel of the bike right between the Ripley & Ripmo, somewhere I think I might very much *love to be*

      It's a very good, well-balanced bike. Certainly one worth test riding.

    I could hear the "Revel" in your voice when you finished that first fast trail! That said it all...

    • @bikersedge
      @bikersedge  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It was a really good match for that trail. The Rascal is a great do it all bike. It's got you covered for rougher trails as well as mellower trails.

    Saw this after watching your review of the 2020 Optic and it leaves me wondering if it could handle the rough "chunk" you rode here as well as the Rascal did. A back to back comparison might be in order...

    • @bikersedge
      @bikersedge  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Once those trails are out from under 10' of snow, I have every intention of taking the Optic down them. Those trails are what Bike Mag used to test some of the big bikes on for the bible this year. So it will be a really good test for the capability of the Optic.

  • @leejohnh22

    Awesome review! I know it's been a while but if can recall, how does the Rascal compare to the Optic? Are they similar in levels of pedal efficiency and descending capability?

    • @bikersedge
      @bikersedge  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Someone just asked that same question on our website. Here's my answer "It's been a very long time since I've ridden either. So, take this with a grain of salt. The Rascal's suspension felt more firm and supportive. It felt like a quicker, more responsive climber. The Optic felt plusher both up and down. The way I remember it, the Rascal would be a great multi-purpose trail bike while the Optic is more of the DH rider's small bike. Hopefully, that makes sense."

    • @bikersedge
      @bikersedge  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The Hightower is a lot bigger bike. Feels more enduro bike than trail. The Rascal is a trail bike through and through.

    Wow this climbs better then the ripmo? This bike was on my radar decided to go with canyon strive but love the review, I had the ripmo and many other bikes I felt the ripmo climbed better then most, I felt it was a better climber then the SB130 and 150 but I have t tried the rascal so it might be never know till it get one.

    • @bikersedge
      @bikersedge  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd agree, the Ripmo climbs better than most long travel bikes out there including the SB 130/150. The Rascal has quite a bit less travel and a great suspension platform. That certainly helps it climb well.

    • @itzdkbruh8852
      @itzdkbruh8852 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nathan how are you liking the strive? I’m currently in the market for a 29er and I’ve been pulling my hair out deciding on what to get, I’ve narrowed it down to the Strive, Trek Slash, YT Capra , and now the Revel Rascal. Hope to hear back thanks

    I bought a rascal to replace my v3 Ripley. Although it doesn’t feel like it climbs as fast, all my Strava climbs are very similar and faster in some cases. But it does everything else better. And I moved all my parts from my Ripley to the rascal so it’s just the frame and shock that are different. It’s an amazing bike. Demo one if you can.

    • @bikersedge
      @bikersedge  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd agree on the climbing for sure. The Rascal does descend quite a bit better. It feels more like a big bike.

      Now there's a trail-true comparison. What made you decide to replace the Ripley, and not with a newer Ripley?

  • @fortisequitem8144
    @fortisequitem8144 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So I wonder, if you aired up the shock higher until it climbed as snappy as a Ripley, how would it do on the rest of the trail tech?

    • @bikersedge
      @bikersedge  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It doesn’t really work like that. It’s not so much that the shock needs more air. There are multiple factors that make the Ripley climb better. Things like anti squat values, frame geometry, weight, tires... Simply adding more air to the shock would negatively effect the bike’s performance - even on the climbs.

    This bike or yeti sb130 for Colorado / west slope??!! One bike quiver. Thanks so much in advance. Would love and appreciate your feedback.

    • @bikersedge
      @bikersedge  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm not familiar with the trails in Colorado. I have ridden both bikes in Northern Utah, however. I'd say the Rascal feels like smaller bike than the SB130 when it comes to travel, geo and capability. Climbing, it's pretty close although I might give the advantage to the Rascal. I think either bike would be a good option for all-purpose trail riding with the SB130 feeling a bit burlier and the Rascal feeling a bit snappier.
