  • MSG is the second album by the Michael Schenker Group, released in 1981. Ready to Rock is the classic opening track. This video looks at the main guitar riffs of the song: Note: The Solo IS NOT included in this lesson. That is well beyond my capabilities.

    As ever, this is just how I play the song, I make no claim that it is correct or that this is what is played on the original version.

      Still my go-to riff for testing the Metal of any guitar I play in a guitar store. True story.

    I don't feel like I've ever been ready to rock. I always envied those who were ready and then proceeded to rock.

    One of the things that makes Michael great is he is not pentatonic, he has a very unique style and it makes him hard to copy

    Excellent lesson, as ever. Ready to Rock? I was when I was a lad. I’m normally more Ready For Bed now. 😁. Don’t worry about not doing the leads, Dunsy. These rhythm focused lessons suit me down to the ground.

    First real band i ever went to see or it was UFO?. 1984-5. They were weeks apart and played the same songs. I later found out why. I had backstage passes for UFO and was too scared to use them, so I stood behind the mixing desk. lol

      Yeah, all good choices. I'm going to start doing more lessons, going forward. I was hesitant to do some as there's no way I can play all those guitar solos, but I reckon there's folks out there who would appreciate me doing some tunes just looking at the easy ways to play the rhythm parts. Not everyone wants to sit down and learn lead parts (and I include myself in that!), but I think that just jamming along with an album at home is something that everyone is happy doing. That's how I spend a whole lot of my time and have done since I started.

    Before you disclose the connection between St. Paradise and MSG I'm going to guess it's the fact that St. Paradise had ex Nugent players like St. Holmes and Rob Grange, and I think MSG had Charlies Huhn as a vocalist for a short period? Well, I looked it up and St Holmes was a member of MSG! I didn't even know that.

      @@DunsysGuitarWorld On a serious note, if that’s possible for us(!) I think it would have been great if Derek St. Holmes had stayed with MSG - he’s such a great singer, it could have been like Glenn Hughes in Deep Purple. What might have been? 🤔

    • @DunsysGuitarWorld
      @DunsysGuitarWorld  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@derekclacton I saw the tour in Edinburgh and Derek was great (as you would expect, man he can sing and he's a great guitar player too), but he wasn't that audible in the PA. When the live album and video came out, you could tell that something was amiss as he's hardly featured. I remember an interview he did with Kerrang! shortly after it where he said that he felt he was written out of the band history, but I don't recall him giving reasons - maybe him and Michael just didn't gel? The impression he gave was that it was always going to be a short term thing (maybe even just that UK tour).

    I've tried many flying V guitars and none have been comfortable to play either sitting down or standing up.
    My worst guitar ever was a perspex BC Rich Mockingbird in electric blue.
    It weighed a tonne and sounded awful.
    What's your worst ever guitar and why?

    • @DunsysGuitarWorld
      @DunsysGuitarWorld  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Washburn RR2V - probably mid 80's - I had was pretty bad in terms of sound and playability. But it looked cool for the time! Impossible to play sitting down though. Worst overall guitar would be a late 70's Gibson Marauder I had. Just a really poor guitar.

      @@DunsysGuitarWorld If you were gonna recommend a rock/punk/metal guitar now. Which would be your decision if price wasn't a problem and also which one would you choose if it was?

    • @DunsysGuitarWorld
      @DunsysGuitarWorld  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@wezzmusic Hmmm... difficult one! If I was someone looking for something just now, that was modern and I thought would cover high gain Metal sounds, the ESP/LTD Les Paul's I've tried have been pretty good. For me though the necks are too thin, but they're nice guitars, light and easy to play. I would note though that I'm an old traditionalist and like a Les Paul shape. There is so much choice out there, my best advice would be to try as many types of guitars as you can in a shop and figure out what works best for you playing wise.
