It depends on what kind of race is being ran. If it was the 800m and above or a medley where you could cross, then there wouldn't be a disqualification.

This reminds me when I was the only high hurdler for my high school track team up against some of the best hurdlers in the league. I am only 5'4" tall running high hurdles! One of my competitors started to make fun of me during the race and even spun around before trying to jump the last hurdle but ended up crashing into it and falling on his face! I ran past him and claimed 3rd place! Final score SWHS: 130, MHS: 6. I am now 60 years old and that 1 point for my team is the best memory of my 4 year track career!
