- Things are hotting up in The Race to 15 this week as the challenger nonchalantly whacks out two 13's back to back.
If I'm to stand a chance against my fellow Englishman, i need to buck my ideas up and start hitting the big figures and also hope that he doesn't do it this week.
Man i picked the worst time to engage in this.
Current Rules:
- No moving (scrolling and zooming allowed)
- Streak ends when you guess a wrong country
- No Palestine
- Guam + Puerto Rico is USA
- Hong Kong and Macau are China

How on earth do you see a basic looking countryside with some barns and know it's Lithuania?

Tom, a couple things;
1. “Barrio” means “neighborhood” so it’s unlikely it’s the name of a town.
2. You would make your life easier by memorizing a couple things about Africa, like Uganda and Kenya both have yellow number plates and drive on the left, whereas Ghana drives on the right. Uganda typically has redder soil than Kenya, which is more lush and green. Senegal is very dry and “dusty” as I think you’d say, more like a desert.
3. The signage in Botswana from experience looks nearly identical to South Africa. The way I distinguish the two is Botswana is much drier and has more of those low trees that are spaced around that you usually see.
4. Finally, I think it would help you to have a bit more confidence in your guesses because a lot of the time your first instinct is right.

Well Safari is a typical Kenya or Uganda thing so that alone narrowed the location down enough.

I live in Finland, so when those pines popped up I just said out loud "That looks Finnish as shit" and you had the same hunch. It's weird how the borders can be quite arbitrarily drawn, but somehow each place can be so distinctive.

It could be a crazy challenge if you find a location on GeoGuessr in Europe and you have to make your way there within a time limit. You could have a few locations on GeoGuessr that you have you plan your route between to reach them all in time. Love the videos, looking forward to more of the Straight Line across Wales!

Those weird knobby trees with the spindly branches at around 20:56 are crepe myrtle. They're only found in the southern US in North America, since they're not cold hardy.

Things that indicated that "barrio Santiago" is in Mexico:
- If you ever see the virgin of Guadalupe, this is a _strong_ sign that you are in Mexico. She is more ubiquitous than the Mexican flag and almost as reliable of an indicator.
- The word "abarrotes" is a mostly Mexican word. The rest of Latin America tends to call this sort of store a "minimarket".
- A tortillería . . . which is a place they make and sell tortillas. This is a pretty common sort of business in Mexico, and it would never exist in any other country, so it is worth looking for.
- The misspelling of "Gimnasio": Mistaking "i" and "y" is not a standard casual misspelling to be made by a normal Spanish speaker. The "y" there is influenced by the English word "gym", which is unlikely to affect areas that are not so close to the US.
- Octagonal concrete poles. They are everywhere in Mexico and very rarely seen anywhere else.
- The shade of pink on the wall that the "barrio santiago" sign was on is often called "rosa mexicano" or "mexican pink". It is much more popular in Mexico than elsewhere. Of these signs, this is the least reliable indicator, but if you see that color on anything at all then you should probably at least consider Mexico.
In particular, seeing a tortillería should be enough to instantly identify something as Mexico, overriding just about anything else: It can look like Europe, be covered in snow, have writing in Cyrillic, and fly the Ukrainian flag for all I care: If it has a tortillería, I am guessing Mexico.
Also, to me, something about the sidewalks reminded me very much of León specifically. I lived near it for about 12 years and visited frequently. You might not recognize them if you haven't been there that often, but the sidewalks in León look different from sidewalks anywhere else.

Romanian has a lot of influence from slavic languages enough though its a romance language (that seemed to be throwing you off). Also look at the bright orange tile roof houses; common in Portugal, Romania and other mediterranean countries.
Barrio just means area or suburb or something like that by the way. For example Mayfair, Kensington and Westminster are "barrios" in London.
At 9:12 I was like "yup, Finland" right off the bat :D
The trees, the nice grass, and especially those long, white signs that fit long city names. Finland is pretty recognizable.

Another clue you had it was mexico was the satellite dish, it was pointing south and up, so it had to be in the northern hemisphere (relatively) near the equator.

Second, for your next adventure series, I'd love an intro video. That way you could show us your planning process, all the gear you got to prepare for it along the way (some sponsorship opportunities there too), and other random things, like stashing the inflatable kayak. For me the planning of an adventure is almost as good as the adventure itself, so I'd love to see that process.
Also, I can't believe you didn't explore the abandoned farm house. That would have been some A+ content, off your line or not.
