    MESSAGE TO FANS: Thanks so much for getting me to 100,000 subscribers. You're all insane fans, the best on TH-cam and i'd be nowhere if it wasn't for you lot enjoying my content. Hope you don't mind this leisurely vid, the camping hol was unfortunately placed amid a whirlwind of activity and things were a bit rushed! See you all on monday.

      Here's a tip. In Eastern Europe (Russia, Ukraine, Belarus) we have a wired tradition to paint pavement bricks and bottoms of trees white. It comes from Soviet times and supposed to look tidy, I guess.
      Also you might want to look up some Soviet buildings and cars, because they look very distinguishing.
      13:30 There's an UAZ parked by a really Soviet panel building =)
      PS: Congrats on hitting 125K subscribers and more is yet to come!
      Cheers from Kyiv, Ukraine.

      Russian language was already almost a 100% guarantee that it was Russia. The nature looked very distinct and not at all similar to Central Russia, based in that it could be either South by the Black Sea or Southern Far East. All the cars that were visible had a steering wheel on the right, which is a dead giveaway that they were imported from Japan, which is an extremely common practice in the Far East due to the proximity. It actually makes a lot of sense:)

      Could be a Japanese Import/Ferried, since they are left road drivers, might explain it. It's not against the law to drive a car which has a different steering wheel orientation, as long as you drive on the correct side of that country's road.

    • @larflabergasted

      @BKKGarrett 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah...that really threw me off on that one. I knew we were in the northern hemisphere because of the sun...so I guessed we were in Britain because of the steering wheels on the right even though it didn't look like a typical British town.

    • @maxm33
      @maxm33 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      BKKGarrett but it looks like typical Russian town, and Cyrillic letters also gives a clue. But there are a lot of cities and towns in Russia with mostly right hand drive (the farther east the more such vehicles). Nothing definitely pointed to Vladivostok, so then there was a lucky lottery )

    This is almost the first geoguessr I've done, I have just fooled around with some in Sweden with my classmate before... I found your channel just today because the video where you cross wales in a straight line came into my recommendations. Anyways, I think I was the first one to get 5 000 points on the first location, though someone got 4 999 points before me. (If I understand geoguessr correctly.) I figured it out this way: I saw that it was in a German speaking area (I have read a little German in school), and that the street names ended with "gasse", which I did not recognise. So I was pretty sure it was not in Germany. Then a saw that the license plates had the blue EU thing on their left side, so I guessed it was not in Switzerland. Then I searched for Jakomini (which I guessed was the area name) around big cities in Austria, found nothing around Vienna, then tried Graz and found it. Then I just looked for Maygasse and Schießstattgasse and found the intersection!

    • @RetsamX
      @RetsamX 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pretty good guessing. But I am pretty sure that there are a decent amount of streets in germany named "Gasse" or "Gaße" (I live there :D)
      But you are not entirely wrong, if you see that, you are more likely in Switzerland or Austria. The green signs are also something I have never seen in Germany.

    There was a good hint that suggests Round 3 had to be around Wladiwostok. When you looked at the person in the car (13:54) you could see that the car was right-hand drive as well as the other car in front of it. A lot of cars in Wladiwostok actually have right-hand drive as they are imported from Japan and South Korea. I think you noticed the amount of japanese cars and with the right-hand drive it gets even more obvious that they aren't exported for the european market.

    I am now in a wheelchair after an accident back in the 1990's, I mention that because it is relevant, on the pub quiz I did, 30 questions, the last was always the lyrics question, I would quote, not sing, two lines of a song and they would have to answer with the title and band.
    My quote was... aand here the wheelchair becomes involved...

    Every time I play along and get a horrible score on some of the rounds that seem impossible to guess for me, and think: yeah he would never get the right place. Then I watch the video and I'm amazed by how quickly he gets the right country and sometimes even the city. That Vladivostok guess was amazing to me. I was placed slightly ahead and couldn't see any Cyrillic so I guessed Portugal! haha...

    On round 3: look at the steering wheels of cars, those ones were on the right, which is usually what you get in countries that drive on the left (or are very near to countries that drive on the left). If the steering wheels are on the left then thats usually countries that drive on the right, obviously.

    1. My initial instinct was Austria. I searched around Vienna for a bit looking for that platz on the map. Didn't find anything then started looking at some German cities. Couldn't find anything, gave up and selected Berlin. 3219 points.
    2. Noticed the sun was pretty far in the North. Driving on the left. I was thinking about Australia or New Zealand. Looking for a city with a Northeastern coast and went with Auckland. I did consider South Africa briefly but didn't think that was it just based on the look and feel. 0 points.
    3. Saw what looked like Russian writing on the sign. No idea how to narrow it down more. Selected a point in Southern Russia and also fairly near Ukraine. Russia's too big. 47 points.
    4. Definitely in the US with the mailbox. Couldn't quite read the side of the bus, but it looked like it said Charlotte to me so that's what I guessed. I considered the pacific northwest too. meh. 358 point.
    5. Thank goodness for the .hk domain. I should have looked for the exact road, but just went with a random east-west road. 4995.

    • @gergoturan4033

      It is not for looking tidy actually. It is whitewash and it has a couple of purposes.
      1) It deters ants and other pests (since it has a little lower pH)
      2) It keeps the tree colder in early spring. If spring comes early and the weather warms quickly, the tree might warm up and sprout early and if the weather gets cold again it can get seriously damaged.

    It's so much fun to play along and sometimes see the differences in the way one thinks. Athough being german I was struggling with the austrian one. There are several giveaways this isn't Germany (street signs, beer I never heard of, one way sign only saying "Einbahn" instead of "Einbahnstrasse") but I still thought "maybe it's Berlin and these are reminiscences to the GDR-times".
    For the south african one my very first vibe I felt was american, then I got confused by the dutch sounding sign and the general achitecture and due to lack of any other guesses went for South Africa, looked for a place that would allow a port to be NE and immediately scrolled into the right city and got it almost spot on.
    The russian one threw me off, I immediately got russian vibes, then I saw the Pit Stop and I don't expect to see latin signs in Russia. That small transporter/van supported my feeling for russia and the Tokio Drift car again made me question my decision. The park sign and the bag of that lady were no help either, I felt like I spotted some cyrillic letters but I wasn't too sure about it. Unfortunately I didn't notice the right hand drive cars which maybe would have lead me to Japan which would have been way closer than my guess (eastern Romania).
    The US broke my neck... no visual clues to which city I was in, from the pale color of the houses I felt a Miami vibe (even though I would expect to see some yellow or pink or blue) so I hoped S.P. Beach wasn't a name but rather stood for south Palm Beach. Olive Street would fit into this thought but even though I didn't find it on the map I placed my marker in Miami.
    Hong Kong was easy, but I nwasn't patient enough to find San Chan Road or Horae Plaza on the mep so I was 1km off. (13.455 total)

    14:27 A little bit of trivia:
    During the car boom in the 60s and 70s, China was in a bit of a "revolution". You'd be lucky to even touch a car during that time let alone own one. By the time people could afford cars again, Japan and Korea are so far ahead that they cannot compete. So instead the Chinese government basically says that all foreign car companies that want to sell in China must partner up with a Chinese car company. So Honda is actually Honda China which is separate from Honda Japan. The only exception is Tesla who operates independently as an incentive for EVs to become mainstream in China.
    There are a few Chinese brands but most of them are not great. The only one that's decent is Geely who owns Volvo and Lotus.
