My first skimmer and I'm still using it today a year later. Fantastic skimmer!
Actually I don't quite understand the difference between a very expensive skimmer and this skimmer. They all do the same thing by producing bubbles to remove dissolve organics right? So does one do the job better than the other? Does one look and feel better than the other? It's hidden away anyway! This skimmer together with carbon dosing can really strip nutrients down hence the price of this skimmer + carbon dosing is wayyyyyyyyyyyy affordable compared to those top of the line skimmer. But it does the same job with results!

Totally agree, brother. Every time I see a more expensive skimmer, I think to myself “but why?” I just don’t understand the $800-1200 skimmers everyone is obsessed with, outside of volume. I get that they’re bigger. But I don’t get how that can justify such an insane price. It’s crazytown. Not about that high dollar reefing life on the essentials under the hood.

How many gallons do your tank hold?

80 gallon display tank, 110 gallon total system volume with sump included.

Can you make the hole bigger?

Unfortunately, I think it would probably break the plastic if you tried. It’s a pretty thin plastic wall on the stem. I’m sure there’s a way to retrofit it, but I’m no DIY whiz, so I wouldn’t trust myself to experiment.

@@kalamazoo_reeferI wonder if anyone has 3d printed a volute with a bigger Venturi inlet stem ie bigger stem with wider internal diameter, so it won’t clog as often. This happens with every skimmer Venturi inlet, even if you have BK platinum edition (just a joke BK owners, calm down). I just routinely soak my skimmer in vinegar solution (could use citric acid but I’m just too cheap🤪) annually for an hour while running to decalcify everything to keep it running efficiently. Great channel btw, really good common sense advice.
