I’m so glad that I splurged on an IMAX screening. Yes, it’s long, but I didn’t feel it until I tried to stand up on my 50 year old cranky knees afterwards. Beautiful film, tragic story.
I completely agree with you on Lily Gladstone. She has such an amazing presence. I could not take my eyes off of her and definitely wanted more of Molly’s story.
I like how Scorsese drove home that this wasn’t a mystery. The tribe knew what was going on almost right away. The maddening aspect of the film is they, like the audience, knows this isn’t some overly complex conspiracy. Save for DeNiro’s character, the crimes are just the work of a bunch of, let’s face it, pretty dumb guys who just knew that the local authorities were going to let them get away with it.
I watched the very first showing and wore my regalia as a Choctaw. Been waiting for this film all year and I'm deeply moved and delighted to see the respect paid to Indigenous people and not shying from the story. My tribe is even mentioned in the beginning which surprises me! Yakoke Scorcese 🙏 thank you
Unlike mafia men like Henry Hill or psychos like Travis Bickle in this one Scorsese doesn’t find anything humanizing about Hale, DeNiro’s character, who behind his hypocrisy lurks sheer evil. And there’s a line to Ernst, DeCaprio’s character, that paints a fragile line between stupidity and evil. Seems to me Scorsese is making not only a period film of real events, I think it also describes our present.

And I get your point about the sitting with wolves for three hours. But this isn't a tale of hope. There was no happy ending. @demejiuk I just wanted to see the relationships between the families of the Osage people more, especially Molly's family. Scorcese said that the story is supposed to be about them. Storytelling can be creatively done to have a "both and" scenario. It doesn't have to be one way. I get where you're coming from, though. It makes total sense in the way the movie was presented.

I think I must of watched a different movie. I found it long, boring and a disgrace to the book. I found very little empathy for the characters. The hardest thing about this movie, was trying to stay awake.
Thoughts on this movie: 1) Lily is a supporting actress and should not win an Oscar for playing dead for half the movie. 2) This movie was too slow and too long. 3) All of this crap about how Ernest love Molly is a load of crap since he poisoned her and helped kill her whole family. The cry of anguish from Lily Gladstone when learning of the fate of her character's final living sister was the flawless capstone of her complete habitation of Mollie Burkhart (I hesitate to use the word “performance” for fear of diminishing what Ms Gladstone brought to this film) that defies the descriptive power of English adjectives. The emotional resonance that colored this woman’s descent into hell is easily among the greatest artistic recreations of the human condition I have ever witnessed. Like the story it reveals, this film leaves necessary, if not mandatory, marks on the soul of anyone in possession of one. As you correctly state in your review, this movie is the textbook definition of a "must-watch" event. There are no words...
Was eagerly waiting for your review of this movie. I absolutely loved it and I will see it again for sure. I think Martin is one of the best film makers ever. I saw it on IMAX and it was an amazing experience. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Although I wanted to see Lily more, I understand why Scorsese did it this way. The goal was to infuriate the audience by watching the “Killers” scheme and plot against the Native Americans. I also think the ending was unexpected but as I research that last scene with history it all makes sense and completes this epic perfectly. My pick for movie of the year and DeNiros greatest performance behind Raging Bull and Taxi Driver.
My bladder feeling the running time is about the only drawback I can think of. Saw this in IMAX and it was an awesome experience. Love films wherein the audience has to figure out what the characters' motivations are, and that is definitely true here, specifically in the case of DiCaprio's Ernest; DiCaprio does a masterful job of illustrating all of the conflicts and complexities facing this somewhat dim character. I've heard references to "Giant," but I was reminded of "The Heiress," wherein the lead roles all have many shadings to them, and there's an air of mystery behind some of the actions they take. Gladstone's soulful, wounded eyes are unforgettable, and I agreee she's the heart of the film and conveys so much with just a glance ( you feel she is the one character fully aware of everything going on, and the consequences involved in the nefarious, greedy activities surrounding her). De Niro's calm, sly work brillantly indicates just how evil William is (I wanted that barber to make better use of the razor during William's shave, for example, and I bet the never-more-adept Scorsese knew the moment would draw a strong reaction from viewers).
The length will test the patience of the casual movie goers. But you have to understand how meticulous of a story teller Martin Scorsese is. If you have seen Goodfellas, Casino, the Wolf of Wall Street, and even the Irishman, you will notice a familiar formula. First he builds morally complex characters. They are not just simply good or bad people. Some of his characters are benevolent people but either stupid or losers. Some of his characters are bad people, but principled. Then there are the purely evil characters but very civil. Second he likes to use the passage of time to show how his protagonist develop. He likes to show their begginings, their prime, and eventual fall from grace. In fact many of his protagonists (Henry Hill, Jake LaMotta, Jordan Belfort, and Jimmy Hoffa) have their own pride and illusion of impunity as the main key to their downfall. It also happens in this movie. Another reason why time is such an important element in a Scorsese movie is because its time itself that provides the characters with the opportunity to define their purpose. Be it becoming kings in their world (Goodfellas), feeding their greed (Wolf of Wall Street), or overall just amassing their power. With time the protagonists act with impunity. But if time gives, time also takes away. Time will catch up with everyone. The protagonists will try to cling on to whatever power they still have, but eventually they will lose it. It is through all these that we better understand the moral complexity of his characters and their paradoxes. Example Ernest Burkhart is dumb, but he is also good at manipulating. He is greedy, but he does also love his wife. He is torn by his loyalty to his uncle and the woman he loves. He was poisoning her, but at one point he also started poisoning himself. Given all these it is really going to take time for any director to tell a story like this
Saw this Saturday…This movie is fantastic! It didn’t feel like a 3,5 hrs movie at all. Pacing was perfect!👌🏻 is it Scorsese’s Schindlers list? Perhaps🥹
Yesterday, I saw the movie on IMAX and I have to agree with your review 100%. It needs to be seen on the BIG SCREEN. I was a little leery watching a 3+ hour movie, but it kept me enthralled. I did not get bored or confused. I can't think of how they could have edited it down without destroying the story. I remembered not to drink anything for at least three hours before the movie so I didn't miss anything to empty out my bladder (I wish movies that are 3+ hours long have an intermission like they did back in the 1960's). I've watched more movies this year than I normally do. So far, the KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON is the only movie that I consider OSCAR worthy in all categories. I too kept thinking about the movie long after I saw it.
@@ImpressionBlendThat would make an interesting video. Comparing the two experiences. I recently had a stroke which left my eyesight severely impaired. I have been watching everything streaming, with my computer fairly close. I plan on making this film my first venture back to the theater. I honestly am nervous about the experience.
You are absolutely right. Just saw in a theatre. Expansive yet claustrophobic all at once. Great acting all round! Thanks again Marianna. Hi Marianna, this is Byrne in Tbilisi. I'll be commenting from this channel from now on. It will be more dedicated to movies, music and art. Thanks for all of the reviews. Always watching!
I saw this movie yesterday and had read the book. I was surprised how right of the bat the audience was let known that Hale was going to be the antagonist. In the book for a little bit you think he is on the up and up. Lily Gladstone was amazing, from her voice, face gestures, her lovely laugh, etc. Scorsese is a legend. What a director. I was not feeling the constant scowl that DiCaprio uses throughout the film. But I warmed up to it.
Marianna, you know about my weak bladder. Will watch this film over and over when it comes to streaming from my couch 10 feet from my bathroom holding the remote with my finger near pause. All the best.
While I enjoyed the movie, I kinda wish Scorsese had given some focus to the undercover Native American. He was pretty interesting. I would've liked to see what tribe he came from and how he joined the BOI, and how he connects with the Osage to find out what's going on. I'm sure he, like Mollie, was deeply affected by the murders, and wanted to solve them as much as she did. If the movie had followed him while also following Ernest, his uncle, and Mollie, that would've made the film perfect for me.
I don't know if I can sit in the Theatre for that long and stay awake. Last time I tried to watch a long movie was batman, not the Nolan one, and they had to wake me up because those recliner seats are way too comfortable! I'm a huge movie nerd but this might be too long. I will go anyway. But I'll probably fall asleep. Plus it's tough to watch depressing stuff like this. I've seen a few documentaries about this. I really like your reviews. Keep up the good work.
What a boring movie, and i like a lot of Scorsese's films. Too drawn out, nothing happening, ending was a slap in the face with literal reading of letters and obituaries. Most of the time is spent crying, in graveyards, or looking at Leo's constipated face. I get the message and it is an awful show of the nature of man, but definitely too long, and not as good as people say it is. Plus, its just a big Oscar bait.
gotta say the movie was a letdown for me althought it wasn't bad but still could've been more better if only Leo didn't change his role Leo was supposed to play the FBI agent which is the most interesting role in the whole movie instead he chose to play Ernest which was the less interesting and charsmatic role
I've only seen one person not like this film so far, Marianna. While I haven't seen the film, I get the feeling that it would have been better to tell this story from Molly's POV. Also, Lily better get the Oscar for this role.
But it does show the story from her perspective as well. It’s a multilayered story that unfolds in ways that was honestly not expected. There are many players and characters and the film is much more unconventional than the trailer shows. The beauty of the film is not just in how it tells the story, but how it evolves into something complex, nuanced, and rich. It is not a direct story of set up, climax, resolution. The arc of her story is riveting. When I first watched it, there was so much tension and dread. And it pays off in human, unexpected ways. For as much loss, exploitation, tragedy and injustice the film deals with, at its core, there’s a lot of life, a lot of humanity and a resonance that makes the tragedies more impactful. It’s a near-perfect film and probably the best film of the decade so far.
I'm so excited to see this and disappointed I couldn't fit it into my schedule on its opening weekend. Without a doubt, I will be in theaters as soon as possible to support and celebrate this kind of cinema we desperately need in this day and age.
EXCELLENT review - I was already excited to experience this film, but now I am even more so. Can’t wait to see this for the story, the acting, the filmmaking, everything. Am also excited for Brendan Fraser’s cameo - love the roll he’s on.
Marianna!! Happy Sunday!! Absolutely loved your review of Killers of the Flower Moon!! 🎬 It is totally a movie I enjoyed from start to finish and never got bored throughout the 3 hours!! Killers of the Flower Moon was absolutely a theatrical treat and seeing this on the big screen made the movie a phenomenon. The cinematography, acting, costumes, and direction by Scorsese all sold it for me!! 🙌 This is honestly a movie I can rewatch for a 2nd viewing and will obtain new information from the film when seeing it again! Thank you for this review Marianna! 🎥
This was extraordinary! I expect plenty of noms next year, picture, director, actress, actor, supporting actor, adapted screenplay, production design, costume design, score, sound, cinematography and editing
Martin Scorsese is a psychopath who just happens to be an American movie director. It is well past time somebody called him out for what he is, based on the violent themes and images he has produced in his movies over the years. This man is morally incapable of producing PG-rated family film. He uses his actors to inflict pain on others. Brian De Palma and David Lynch -- also "celebrated" American directors -- were also sick, based on their movies. But since they all went to film school, and can show us depravity at different camera angles, we call them great. Men like these are sick -- they need help on some level -- and we are sick for celebrating them.
Wow! Absolutely incredible review Marianna. I really enjoyed watching this. This film looks amazing. I’m a massive Scorsese fan. He’s probably my favourite director of all time, so I will definitely be watching this one. I’m so excited to check this film out soon. I’m glad you enjoyed it as well.👍
I've had the book on my shelves for a while. Now I'm debating whether to read it now before I go see the movie. I might just move it to the top of my TBR pile now!
read the book first! I love it, and I've been hearing/seeing some disquieting things about the movie portraying a certain character in an almost sympathetic light when in reality, as cited in the book, he was completely irredeemable. I think the author does a good job of pacing out the truth without outright distorting much of anything, which a movie like this is bound to do
Everyone should hear Snarky Jay's experience watching this movie! Basically don't watch this movie in an old cinema where the interior hasn't been upgraded since 1992.
Saw it as soon as I could (Thurs afternoon). Understated is the perfect description, languid even. That’s not meant to be read as a negative, just preparation for what ppl are in for. It is the most UN-Hollywood movie I’ve seen on a long time. But yeah overall agree w/ the vibe of this review. In particular immediately after seeing I thought that as it went on and events started drawing to their conclusions, I couldn’t help but think that for how long it is, I could have used more of the relationship between Earnest & Molly & what endeared him to her. Maybe it is intentionally the way it is and there’s a point to be understood, if so I didn’t pick up on it this viewing. 🤷♂️ I haven’t had a chance to look into it but something I haven’t heard much mention of is the notion that a First Nations member was a part of the newly formed FBI team that investigated this ? Is that a historical fact / real person ? It stands to reason as an investigative technique but still very interesting…
Martin Scorsese (as well as others) has noted that John Ford's The Searchers (1956) was influential on him from his youth. The Searchers remains an impactful influential movie in part adapted from some historical events. The iconic film does have its pros and cons, especially with regard to today's conventions, I suppose what I'm wondering, is this perhaps Martin Scorsese's The Searchers?
The movie did a great job of capturing the era, I felt. The set design, the accents, colloquialisms, the crude and rugged way people talked, the endless plains and small frontier homesteads, it just sucked me in from the get go. I thought they did a great job of including the Osage and their customs, history, would have loved to see more interactions with Molly and Earnest kids so the final act would have hit harder in the gut.
I’m planning on watching this on Apple TV at home when it arrives. I though it would hit Apple TV at the same time it hit theaters but, it isn’t so, I’m gonna have to wait 😕 I just can’t sit almost 3.5 hours in the theaters for this. Btw, will you do a review of The Exorcist Believer? Did you go see it? Anyways, it’s great to see you in another video 😊
Watched it on the opening day last Wednesday. Watched it with my mama, she said that she's so happy to see DiCaprio again on the big screen since she saw Titanic in 1997.
Great review. I snuck a red bull in theater and just sipped that and my eyes didn't leave the screen once. Lily Gladstone jumped off my screen! My top pick of the year
Hi Mariana, :) Thank you for the great review. I would like to see it in the cinema. Is the film filled with alot of the Osage dialogue subtitled in English? I am hoping not because the subtitles I will be viewing will be in Portuguese and I am only now learning the language slowly. I am hoping it won't make much difference. Would love to hear your feedback. Many thanks!
I totally disagree with your assessment of Ernest. The reason he’s so fascinating is that he’s clearly simple-minded and guilty of doing horrible things. But he genuinely, sincerely loves Molly. And that is what made him much more complex than “why can’t Molly see who he is”. I was rooting both for Ernest to get the Justice he deserved but also for their love to win at the end. Which is a hard thing to convince to your audience to feel. It was a triumph. Other than that a great review. 👍
This is one of the biggest strengths of the movie. There is real love between the two of them, a genuine, tender, and deep love between these two characters. He wants to protect her, yet he’s doing all of these terrible things because he’s a dull, gullible and easily manipulated simpleton who is frustratingly selfish and stupid. His uncle is pulling the strings and he simply acquiesces. And it’s a pretty direct and transparent story like I’ve never seen. I love how there are no hidden motives with him. What you see is what you get and she knows what she’s getting into because he’s to dumb to be cunning. She endures a lot. And at one point, I thought she was going to have an intense confrontation where she vents for all of the things he was involved in. Yet she treats him with compassion and love.
spoiler warning How much was his love really worth, though? He was knowingly and willingly complicit in the murders of her whole family while also slowly poisoning her to death. I think, whether or not he really loved her is absolutely irrelevant, when you consider the absolutely horrific things he did to her. And I'm not willing to justify his actions by saying he was "easy to manipulate" or "simple-minded". His uncle may have pulled the strings, but Ernest knew exactly what they were doing. He may not have been a genius, but he wasn't a complete idiot who couldn't tell right from wrong either. I therefore stopped rooting for the relationship of Molly and Ernest the moment it became clear what he was doing to her and her people.
@@ImpressionBlend Having just gotten out of it, I can definitely say it was worth every penny, and I can honestly say, that while it's definitely one of Scorsese's slower films, I personally didn't feel those three and a half hours.
Watched this movie yesterday and all the comments on various reviews are correct, excellent movie. That 3.5 hours for the movie was like "poof' and the movie was over. I read that time flys by with this movie and did it ever. I highly recommend to go see this movie if at all possible, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Everything about this movie was excellent, such a good story based on a true story and facts, great actors and great acting. I watch reviews and read probably a hundred comments, and watched a short documentary previous to going to this movie to get a handle as to the narrative of this movie. I'm glad I did that also.
I was surprised that both Brendan Fraser and John Lithgow had cameos. That was not expecting. So much so that I was even convinced even Johnny Depp also was in it as one of the final commentators on that stage at the end of the movie. But it turned out to be someone else.
It’s my favorite film of the year so far and one that really demands to be seen on the biggest screen possible. One line from “Goodfellas” popped into my mind when De Niro’s character first appeared on screen: killers always come with smiles on their faces.
@@4CHAMBuurs I would like to say that all of the technical aspects of the film were wonderful. Nobody can shoot a film like scorcesse. it was the telling of the story that was lacking for me....
Way to long. Convoluted with with way to many characters. Great acting and directing, but no editing. That is the problem when you have a auteur director that won't allow a single frame to be cut. Did I mention it was way to long, ...and boring. The story started low and just went sluggishly darker with no surprises. Protagonist/ Antagonist: of course the peaceful loving Osage Indians vs the evil white man bent on his his greed at all costs. A tribune to the woke left's agenda of vilifying the white man and dividing the country even further. Scorsese becomes full of himself wrapping up the story as a radio show of the 30's, which was totally unnecessary to an already 3 hour long film reminiscent of 'Heaven's Gate' or 'Water World'. Thumbs Down.
Leonardo DiCaprio deserves an Oscar for this. The way he portrayed a man in a relationship with a woman over the age 23, for him, was very convincing.
Putz.

William Hale in this movie is one of the most evil and intimidating characters I’ve seen in fiction, and he was real. Amazing movie.
Agreed! Simply terrifying, real evil.
Evil incarnate.

Perhaps🥹
The ending... Kind of jarring at first, but it was a creative choice, and it really stuck the landing at the end. What a gut punch.
I kind of wish Scorsese used this style for the opening as well to bookend it
Yesterday, I saw the movie on IMAX and I have to agree with your review 100%.
Read the book first then went to see it in Dolby and yes it's amazing. Definitely going back for a second viewing.
I'll be doing a second viewing at home, really curious how it plays without the theater experience.
DiCaprio goes a little too hard with the facial expressions, I agree, but like you I warmed up to it.
Hi, I'm from São Paulo! Yeah excellent! AMAZING! ABRAÇO FORTE DE URSO!
I enjoy your recommendations, but you give too much away. I can't listen to too much. Thanks
Very good movie ....this happens the same time as the Black Wallstreet Massacre
WHY yes I can find the wolves in just about every historical picture.
This is the best review of Killers of the Flower Moon I've seen on You Tube. No surprise, it's Impression Blend!
gotta say the movie was a letdown for me althought it wasn't bad but still could've been more better if only Leo didn't change his role
Leo was supposed to play the FBI agent which is the most interesting role in the whole movie instead he chose to play Ernest which was the less interesting and charsmatic role
Fantastic review. I love a 3+ hour movie if it’s earned, and it sounds like this one was. How did it compare to the book in your opinion?
I've only seen one person not like this film so far, Marianna. While I haven't seen the film, I get the feeling that it would have been better to tell this story from Molly's POV. Also, Lily better get the Oscar for this role.
It's going to be a tight race between her and Emma Stone, really could go either way.

I was going to wait for streaming but your review has changed my mind and I will go see this on the big screen this weekend.
I'm so excited to see this and disappointed I couldn't fit it into my schedule on its opening weekend. Without a doubt, I will be in theaters as soon as possible to support and celebrate this kind of cinema we desperately need in this day and age.
Oh brother, same here! Seeing it this next Saturday. Hope you get something out of it when you see it
Decided to watch this film on the big screen, which I rarely do nowadays. What a weekend well spent I must say. Fantastic in every way.
EXCELLENT review - I was already excited to experience this film, but now I am even more so. Can’t wait to see this for the story, the acting, the filmmaking, everything. Am also excited for Brendan Fraser’s cameo - love the roll he’s on.
What did you think about the whole Mason thing? I feel like they could have/should have delved into that more...
I'm surprised they didn't touch on that at all, but I guess it wasn't super important to the story so I kind of get it.
Was he Mason irl though? Or was that just for the sake of the screenplay..
That said - I, myself felt the embarrasment from that paddling. 🙊
Yeah De Niro had to put on his daddy pants a few times on Leo, some of the funniest parts of the movie actually
is it really hard to watch ? I mean are there scenes difficult to sit through
It's definitely going to be a big contender, and currently Oppenheimer's biggest competition.
Impression Blend , Thanks Much !.......
I like words.
Really good film, I watched it
learn to say the man´s name right
Doesn't really matter which order you go with, they go hand in hand nicely.
read the book first!
I haven’t had a chance to look into it but something I haven’t heard much mention of is the notion that a First Nations member was a part of the newly formed FBI team that investigated this ? Is that a historical fact / real person ? It stands to reason as an investigative technique but still very interesting…
Martin Scorsese (as well as others) has noted that John Ford's The Searchers (1956) was influential on him from his youth. The Searchers remains an impactful influential movie in part adapted from some historical events. The iconic film does have its pros and cons, especially with regard to today's conventions, I suppose what I'm wondering, is this perhaps Martin Scorsese's The Searchers?
Leo review plz
My top pick of the year
I have some issues (I read the book), but this is still a must watch.
Fantastically made and acted!
Martin Scorsese blessed us Cinema fans with greatness. Jesse Plemons stole the show for me.
I saw this movie yesterday and I really enjoyed it. I might go see it again soon.
Been waiting for your perspective. 🎬
Hi Mariana, :)
Thank you for the great review.
There are parts that are subtitled, but it's mostly in English, I don't think you'll have an issue
Less than a minute in and already called an epic, will be watching it then
Great review. I loved Killers of the Flower Moon!
I’ve always found Scorsese’s films quite boring, this looks no different
Just saw it today and it was epic! Oscars on the way.
Fuck, I loved it so much. Saw it on Friday night in IMAX.
Oh, this must have been amazing in IMAX! Saw it in Dolby myself
I absolutely didn't feel the 3.5 hour runtime at all which blew me away when the I realized the film was over
I felt it but I could have kept going ))
Yet she treats him with compassion and love.
spoiler warning
How much was his love really worth, though?
I just saw it. It is wonderful.
Took me long enough, but this is going to be my first Scorsese movie in theatres tomorrow, I can't wait for this one.
Oh wow! Enjoy!
@@ImpressionBlend Having just gotten out of it, I can definitely say it was worth every penny, and I can honestly say, that while it's definitely one of Scorsese's slower films, I personally didn't feel those three and a half hours.
your endorsement is all i needed! checking theatre times now
I hope you love it!
Molly was amazing in this film
The Wolves 🐺 Of Osage
I knew Fraser was in it, but John Lithgow was a surprise to me - didn't know he was going to show up.
I believe that was Jack White in the Depp-alike role at the end.
This might be my favorite review for this.
Aww thank you!
Can't wait to see it!
I don’t comment here a lot, but like your videos. Seeing this Wednesday. Agreed with your review of The Creator too
Enjoy!
@misanthrope2 🤣
@misanthrope2 I did not like it very much but don’t have much to say that hasn’t been said already
It’s my favorite film of the year so far and one that really demands to be seen on the biggest screen possible.
One line from “Goodfellas” popped into my mind when De Niro’s character first appeared on screen: killers always come with smiles on their faces.
Wonderful review!
Thank you!
Didn't like it
Why?

I found it to be slow, silent, circular and depressing. It was way too long also. They could have easily cut an hour out of it. Disappointing.........
I would have to agree, the most disappointing movie experience all year.
@@4CHAMBuurs I would like to say that all of the technical aspects of the film were wonderful. Nobody can shoot a film like scorcesse. it was the telling of the story that was lacking for me....
This movie will corrupt your mind.
Great film. But easily could have trimmed 30-40 minutes from the run time.
That's a LOT of trimming. What would you cut?
Alachia Moon said it was shit, so I won't watch it.
Loved it too. Curious- what would have made it a 10 /10 for you?
A better balance of perspective, more Mollie.
definitely not, the most boring and dull movie ever made by Scorsese, a documentary about this story is more interesting than this crap!
This was the worst movie in history of mankind! A real waste of money and 3 hours.
Shite take.
