      Heck yeah. I’m 48 and why don’t we go crazy for music like we went about this song. It was the BEST DANCE SONG. FOR YEARS WHEN I WAS 12 in 1986 and for years we all kept it in rotation in our parties cause it’s too damn fun!!!

    I remember watching this as a kid, would have been 10 at the time and everyone at school the next day was talking about them. It really was like nothing you'd ever heard before. Pretty sure this one went out live as it was a birthday show.

    I remember at the time, I was only 11 years old.... wow. This was SUPER controversial at the time. Music video was banned. Everyone was wearing "RELAX" t shirts (white with black RELAX in big capital letters the middle). They were a whole marketing push gone wild ! Lol. I think no-one knew what to think of them, even back then. Essentially they took the sounds heard in typical Gay Bars and discos and made it successful in the charts. What I mean by that is ... there was a genre called "Hi-NRG" which first debuted with Donna Summer "I Feel Love" - very high-temp disco and that went on to later evolve into modern techno and House music.

    I Remember the single was banned from Bbc radio at the time as well as the video.That reaction made people shoot it to the top of UK charts.Video was banned too for being eerm..."inappropriate".After that overwhelming success a new censored clip was released to "fix" things.Song was so instantly catchy you just couldn't escape it's impact but stick it in your mind and keep "chewing it" on and on and on.An iconic, great groovy '80s classic hi-NRG gem that made "disco-ish" flavoured songs fashionable again to the record buying public of newer gens.Frontman Holy Jhonson had a really strong,vibrant voice.Another good one is their rock ballad "The power of love".

    • @reactionextraction
      @reactionextraction  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I remember the controversial aspect of FGTH at the time, guess they were ahead of the curve on music / art pushing the envelope! I really enjoy Holly Johnson as a solo artist his voice & vibe is so great! My Fav songs of theirs are actually “Rage Hard” & “Maximum Joy” Fun 🤩 Stuff !!

    • @alexioverdo5225
      @alexioverdo5225 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@reactionextraction oh yeah "Rage hard" that was a really good one.HJ could 've easily been even a vocalist of a rock band in the likes of Rainbow.And dare i say "The power of love" could have easily been a kinda Led Zeppelin ballad if someone didn't know.Just think of it.A very potential voice.

    I love "Relax." It's just a little bit shocking even today. Then there's "15 Minutes" by Circle Jerks and "Too Drunk to Fuck" by Dead Kennedys. Well, they're the closest thing to a hardcore punk love song that I can think of. Okay, there's no such thing as a hardcore punk love song, and "Relax" isn't really a love song either, I guess. Or maybe it is. ;)
    I always enjoy seeing how people respond to "Relax." If they get nervous and are afraid to let their hair down, I feel a little naughty, in a good way. But I always associate "Relax" with a time of plague, which makes the song a little more complicated, at least for me. It's a great song. It really is.

    Great song but this is a mimed-lip-synch performance. The bass is actually a Fairlight C.M.I.IIx The drums are from a Linn Drum drum machine on the original recording. Most acts on TOPT mimed and lip-synched performances. New Order did play live and Nirvana's vocals were live but all the instruments were all playback. J.J. Jeczalik programed and played the Fairlight. Check out Beat Box or Close To The Edit from J.J. Jeczalik's band he was in called The Art Of Noise

    • @robertlanier2235

      They lip synched on American Bandstand, as well as Solid Gold it's the way it was done then. I guess they thought live performances wouldn't sound as good🤷‍♂️

    I think the non dancing bands started in the 90s 😂 There’s one band at the time and I remember thinking, they don’t move. 😂 Why don’t they move? This is weird. 😂 U2 move. 😂 I won’t say who the band is because I think they are great and I love a lot of their stuff and I don’t want to get any flack. Think back to British bands of the 90s.
