That was the crossover between The Shadows and Disco we never knew we needed.

Love Blondie. A band way ahead of their time. Debbie Harry is a true icon. Try One Way or Another, Hanging on he Telephone

This song was Blondie's follow-up to their #1 hit song, Call Me. The song peaked at the #39 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart during the early summer of 1980. This song is definitely a banger indeed!!!

1979 was the best year ever for diversity and innovation in the singles charts in U.K.

I’m a Brit (Welsh) and I agree a large portion of what we heard about Russia back then was via the US. To a degree it still is. All I can remember is on the news media about bunkers. Some people were even building them in their rear gardens. I was only a tiny scamp back then (born in 72) so that’s all I remember. Songs like this, Two Tribes, 99 Red Balloons…. But really that world view of pending atomic doom was everywhere in music and film wasn’t it ? But good grief were the 70s and 80s great musical eras ! Blondie is a band that were right at the pivot point. Still fondness for Punk, but absorbing everything else in too. Love them. Also great reaction from you both. Like you both would agree, I feel very lucky to have lived through those times.

99 Luftbalons/2 Tribes, wow!Such memorable '80s classics. We're nearly same age, and i also feel so lucky to have lived real time the music of the late'70s/'80s and far more as a teen. Both 'Dreaming" and 'Atomic" are the stars of the album.I especially love Clem's drumming skills on the first one btw.Such a genius.

It was a hit here in the UK, No1 in the charts.

No1 Single From No1 Album in UK I think that counts as a hit! Interesting Fact Eat to the Beat was Number1 for technically half a week as the official Chart Company changed and Blondie were number 1 on One and the Police on the other! also this is the Album Version the single has an extra Verse and No instrumental solo!

I’m a little bit younger than you guys, but I remember the terror of the Cold War here in the UK, all too well too. Probably why the rave scene took off as much as it did when the wall came down, and even more when the ussr dissolved

A welsh here ! Yeh we felt it too right ? Back of the mind feeling of nuclear war. I also agree with your sentiments about dance/rave culture too. That started as early as 79 ! Disco fused with house and house splintered off into so many sub-genres.

I don't remember if you covered it yet, but you should do "Union City Blue"

I'm way older than you, I was 13 in 79. I've been a fan since I first heard parallel lines and I wore out my 8 track.

This is superior to Heart of Glass in my opinion. It sounds like the beginning of techno to me, extremely modern sound for 1979.
