My God! Martin Short turned Jerry Lewis into a boggled straight man. In all the Glick interviews, I've never seen Short so frantically inventive with not a moment's let up. This is one for the ages.
@@vincentrimmer5844 Well, that & Jerry was addicted to pain killers for years. Even before this his schtick was always doing His Own Thing whether there was someone on stage or in the short with him or not. He's never been good at bouncing back wittily at others.
I feel quite sure Short was a huge fan of Jerry when he grew up, so for him it was the moment of his life being able to "jazz" impro comedy with the King of TV.
Done live with no cuts. Absolutely amazing. Normally he would shoot 40 minutes and use four. This was one non-stop joyride. And Jerry played it marvelously.
Martin Short is just the greatest in the world. Right up there with all the greats. Nobody but him could make a force like Jerry Lewis laugh as hard as he did and give him the best compliment afterwards. Just fantastic.
At this point in Jerry's career, being funny was out of the question. The best he could muster was not being cantankerous for 5 minutes... I'm surprised he almost pulls it off here. Although there's a few times here he looked like he wanted to lash out, as expected.
This is the only Jiminy Glick interview in which Martin Short actually broke up, nearly breaking character until he recovered. I love Jiminy Glick, and Jerry Lewis just let him shine.
Man, Martin Short is beastly great here. What a tour-de-force performance. Holding court over the likes of King Jerry takes a real genius of performing art. Bravo.
THAT's Who Martin Short reminds me of..The late great Jerry Lewis. Just as animated, expressive, a comic genius. And Lewis is eating it up, and keeping up.
Props to Lewis for keeping it together for most of the interview. I don't think I could keep a straight face for even 20 seconds if interviewed by Jiminy Glick.
Wow, Marty is a frigging champ, and he has got balls of steel for leading Jerry around like that while making him laugh his ass off. The point where Jerry's falling backward laughing and Marty hits his knee with the script and says something like "Stick with me, champ!", man, that is powerful, just as seeing Jerry compliment him so much at the end.
Seeing these two Titans together is just amazing. Marty should be proud he truly gave a great and appreciated performance to Jerry and us. Thanks for the amazing find!
Oh no, Martin did not back Jer in the corner :) Jerry let him do his thing because jerry is great and knows it well. He just gave that space to Martin whom was definitely super funny!
I'm sure Martin worked hard on this before hand as well as using improvisation. This clip should be shown in University to those interesting in acting and comedy etc. What a tour de force. Congratulations Martin for an astounding performance!
Genius 1 and genius 1a. Incredible, incredible performance by Martin Short. It’s amazing how Jerry Lewis knows how to be a straight man to the max. He let Martin Short do his thing. What a brilliant, brilliant interview. Two masters of the art of comedy, the subtleties, the “top the topper” funny format, again and again, just unbelievable!
Jerry Lewis is still my favorite Clown of all time. He don't even need to talk to be funny. But Martin Short a.k.a. Jiminy Glick is not far behind. LOVE BOTH !
Such a wonderfully funny character Martin created with Jiminy. I haven't seen any people crack Jerry up before so that is a real test how funny JG is. Jerry Lewis was a comedy legend and I loved his work so much. Thanks for posting this.
“Because you both used Nair and that was the one way you got to know each other.” 😂 I’m amazed Jerry played along and let Martin do his thing. Good for him that he did. I could see Lewis thinking, “Holy shit, this little shaygits is funnier than me.”
This is MASTERFUL! This might be the greatest comedic interview in the history of Hollywood!….1 legend dethroning the other legend! My goodness! This goes in the books! Sorry Abbot & Costello………but this bumped you off! 🫡🏆🎭
Great stuff! Also great were the two gentlemen's actions towards the end of the skit. A worthy compliment by Jerry, which led to a respectful embarrassment by Marty - these two legends mastered the art of comedy. Thank you for sharing.
Man, to make The King Of Comedy laugh... you gotta come away congratulating yourself... 9:07 -- Jesus Christ! WHAT a compliment! Marty must be eating out on that one for the rest of his life!
Jerry took awhile to realize that he shouldn't be doing the faces; that for the bit to work, he should have let Martin be the clown from the start, and for JERRY to play, surprisingly, the straight man. He got it before too long.
Glick is a friggin' roller coaster. Unpredictable and on his own rails. You can't really do much better opposite him than this. That jibe about "not really standing for anything at all" needed a response though. But that cut was so fast and so close to the end of the bit and the blade went SO deep.
If you watch closely, Jerry Lewis mimics Martin Short's entire manic delivery. Watch Jerry's body language, his thoughts, mouthing of Short's word's, and the absurd improvisation as he tunes into Short. Que after que is followed by Lewis' mouth working out the bit.. He's trying to get a handle on the mania of Martin Short. It is similar to watching the great Billy Crystal keeping up with Robin William's energy. It's like swimming through the hot and cold watery essence of true comedy. True genius is resolved: it cannot be confined to a script by both artists. Martin Short: "I know 5 actors making 20 million off your act." We can all think of so many more. This is true comedic genius.
I saw that too. He had zero space to do anything but observe and- I agree- "try" Short's mannerisms on. Honestly the experience looked a little exhausting for Lewis!
Martin Short is hilarious. Seems, though, the older set Short's Jiminy Glick has "interviewed" (Jerry Lewis, Mel Brooks, as examples) don't entirely understand the Glick concept or know how to play along, which is kind of odd given the comedic genius of a Lewis or a Brooks. I think it's a generational thing.
Considering that Jerry Lewis spent his Lewis-Martin career as the laugh generator seeing him sitting there as the foil with Jimmy Glick was wonderful to see, especially since Lewis was so in tune with what was occurring. The only thing missing would have been Glick pull out a Lambchop puppet and have him ask Lewis to autograph it.
I just found several news ways to irritate people! I can't wait to start new, unelated sentences with, "Whennnnnn?" It's like a magic trick... Jerry almost got whiplash!
"Thank you for standing for something, and yet at the same time, really nothing at all." OUCH! Marty, that's wormwood. Wormwood on the downbeat: ouch. At the finish! ouch. Ai-she-wawah. Kudos to Jerry for holding composure, "They didn't warn me about that one," says the old pro.
The whole Charles Nelson Reilly-Roddy Mcdowell story (both closeted gays in Hollywood) was told so quickly, with the "catering to" implication, that I doubt many people even got the joke. I think Jerry did, because of his amused expression. I'm glad Short is still successful in the business, but he ought to be way bigger, with his talent.
It's an in-joke. Jerry almost bursted into laugh. I wonder if he attended some of Roddy Mcdowall parties... and catered.😅 Probably not as he was already big star back in the 60s, but he knew what was going on, hence his amused expression.
This was like watching a renaissance artist painting a masterpiece in real time.
My God! Martin Short turned Jerry Lewis into a boggled straight man. In all the Glick interviews, I've never seen Short so frantically inventive with not a moment's let up. This is one for the ages.
Well he had to with the absolute nothing he was getting from Lewis.
Two speeding trains don't do anything but smash into each other. Jerry knew just how to play with Martin as Glick.@thepantweaver
@@vincentrimmer5844 Well, that & Jerry was addicted to pain killers for years. Even before this his schtick was always doing His Own Thing whether there was someone on stage or in the short with him or not. He's never been good at bouncing back wittily at others.
Pretty rare to see Jerry left speechless by someone going even broader than himself. This is really cool...Short is an astounding talent.
I feel quite sure Short was a huge fan of Jerry when he grew up, so for him it was the moment of his life being able to "jazz" impro comedy with the King of TV.
yes and on the reverse, you can tell martin short is nervous having to do a double-act with the king of double-acts
This is some brilliant comedy using Jerry Lewis as a straight man
must've been something else for martin short to just sit there and get jerry lewis to crack up
Done live with no cuts. Absolutely amazing. Normally he would shoot 40 minutes and use four. This was one non-stop joyride. And Jerry played it marvelously.
He just did it again on Bill Maher
It's like it's on some Telethon kinda gig.
Martin Short was "on" this night, big time. He knew it was the chance of a lifetime to show off this crazy character to a comedy icon like Jerry.
Marty imitated Jerry back in the day on SCTV. He was a huge influence on Marty.
Great.
Jerry’s face trying to mimic Martin’s inflection!
Martin sure is always on in my opinion
Jerry looking in the mirror. Learning how people felt working with him. 😂🤣
So true. 😂
@2:20 " who do you think... how do you ... what do you... WHEN?? Lol
SouthsydeSasha 312 somehow it’s even funnier to read it
Myla Coleman 😂😂
He turned a flubbed line into gold.
Martin Short is just the greatest in the world. Right up there with all the greats. Nobody but him could make a force like Jerry Lewis laugh as hard as he did and give him the best compliment afterwards. Just fantastic.
Made Jerry laugh so hard his dentures nearly fell out!
He's brilliant
I love how Jerry didn't try to out shine Martin. He just let him do his thing.
He couldn’t outshine him even if he wanted to.
At this point in Jerry's career, being funny was out of the question. The best he could muster was not being cantankerous for 5 minutes... I'm surprised he almost pulls it off here. Although there's a few times here he looked like he wanted to lash out, as expected.
he couldnt .
Martin Short is brilliant. He carried this entire interview without stopping once.
This is quite possibly the funniest Jiminy Glick interview yet, and that's saying a lot.
Yes! A Jiminy Glick interview that I hadn't seen before. :D
Shadow Heart Don't remember this at all! And i thought i saw them all...
This is the only Jiminy Glick interview in which Martin Short actually broke up, nearly breaking character until he recovered. I love Jiminy Glick, and Jerry Lewis just let him shine.
Game recognize game.
Man, Martin Short is beastly great here. What a tour-de-force performance. Holding court over the likes of King Jerry takes a real genius of performing art. Bravo.
Rose Marie too.
King of Crapoleau, Frogtown
Absolutely brilliant, both Martin Short and Jerry Lewis. I laughed as hard at Lewis's faces as I did Short's crazy improv.
This took guts. God he's great.
Martin is brilliant here...pulling all the stops to make Jerry laugh. I honestly think Jerry was perplexed but hugely entertained by Martin.
THAT's Who Martin Short reminds me of..The late great Jerry Lewis. Just as animated, expressive, a comic genius. And Lewis is eating it up, and keeping up.
Prospecting And Closing Sales Training Videos Lewis, Williams, Short, and Carrey all have similar styles to me
He learned from the great Jerry Lewis, copied & made his best bits his own. Brilliant.
And Martin Short does an absolute KILLER Jerry Lewis impression to boot! Maybe the best in Hollywood.
Have never seen Martin Short so nervous. Can't say I'd blame him.
your imagination running wild lol
Props to Lewis for keeping it together for most of the interview. I don't think I could keep a straight face for even 20 seconds if interviewed by Jiminy Glick.
Jerry's face is like a musician listening to the NEW notes of another musical legend. That's what I think :)
Also watch Martin Short playing Jerry Lewis on SNL’s Celebrity Jeopardy.
Had never seen this bit - epic.
Thanks for posting!
Both of them were great in this skit! RIP Jerry Lewis.
Short was amazing here!! Loved it, had me holding my sides!!
How did I miss this jewel?? holy! This was awesome
Was jerry 74-75 here? he looks great
Thank you for sharing. I never saw this "interview". Usually it was Jerry to leave people wordless with his explosivity. Wonderful skit!
Brilliant interview
Best Glick ever!
Martin killed it!! Hilarious!!!
Short’s performance here was a glimpse of Jerry when he did live tv with Dean. Non stop brilliance at 100mph.
Seeing these two Titans together is just amazing. Marty should be proud he truly gave a great and appreciated performance to Jerry and us. Thanks for the amazing find!
I’m exhausted just watching this. Shorts an ad lib genius
How about that exit from Jiminy! The slowstep!
That was a nod to Jerry for sure!
He made both Jerry and Mel crack up!
This is real good Martin Short is the only one I have ever seen to back Jerry Lewis in the corner.. .Outstanding.
blueticecho jerry was letting martin play his character out. he didnt want to overstep his performance. this was great!
Oh no, Martin did not back Jer in the corner :) Jerry let him do his thing because jerry is great and knows it well. He just gave that space to Martin whom was definitely super funny!
Jerry's reaction was brilliant.
Not as brilliant as Auston Matthews!!!
The BEST Jiminy interview of them all!!! Bravo!!!
I'm sure Martin worked hard on this before hand as well as using improvisation. This clip should be shown in University to those interesting in acting and comedy etc. What a tour de force. Congratulations Martin for an astounding performance!
You could see Lewis trying half-heartedly to throw Martin Short off his stride. Can't happen.
Jerry was making faces and Martin did break up for a while.
I actually wish they would have both fallen and rolled on the floor laughing.
Lewis plays this perfectly.....
Mike C. He's genius
This is one I've never seen. Marty's got balls of steel.
This is worth a subscribe.
Genius 1 and genius 1a. Incredible, incredible performance by Martin Short. It’s amazing how Jerry Lewis knows how to be a straight man to the max. He let Martin Short do his thing. Jerry Lewis clearly loves Martin Short.
Jerry Lewis MET HIS MATCH. Just as frantic--and more clever--than Jerry.
nobody's more clever than jerry lewis, buddy.
Lewis got totally hosed by that Canadian.
johnny cardboard Robin Williams is better too
johnny cardboard jerry Lewis is wildly over rated
Martin Short is a genius. Jerry Lewis is... big in France...
Martin Short-the most wickedly underrated comedian ever. He’s the comedian’s comedian.
Martin Short...amazing...just amazing
This is HYSTERICAL!
“Because you both used Nair and that was the one way you got to know each other.” 😂 I’m amazed Jerry played along and let Martin do his thing. Good for him that he did. I could see Lewis thinking, “Holy shit, this little shaygits is funnier than me.”
My phones on vibrate and I know when it. Hits lol!
This is MASTERFUL! This might be the greatest comedic interview in the history of Hollywood!….1 legend dethroning the other legend! My goodness! This goes in the books! Sorry Abbot & Costello………but this bumped you off! 🫡🏆🎭

I’m still face cracked about Sherrie Lewis and the hand-puppets gags 👑😂😅🎯 Lambchop⚡️
That was amazing 🔥🔥🔥
Jerry did the right thing, and played it straight. That made it funny. At 5:15 Short slips into his own JL impression.
Man, to make The King Of Comedy laugh... you gotta come away congratulating yourself...
9:07 -- Jesus Christ! WHAT a compliment! Marty must be eating out on that one for the rest of his life!
eating out on what exactly?
God I miss those telethons so many good times, remember when it came on that Tuesday morning was always back to school
Wonderful wonderful wonderful wonderful bit of genius work right there. M Short. Amazing.
Jerry took awhile to realize that he shouldn't be doing the faces; that for the bit to work, he should have let Martin be the clown from the start, and for JERRY to play, surprisingly, the straight man. He got it before too long.
Two of the greatest comedians of all time performing together!
Martin Short is amazing ❤
New Glick on TH-cam! The reactions of the interviewee make a difference to how Glick flows. Lewis was a tough interview in this case.
he was the perfect straight man
Glick is a friggin' roller coaster. Unpredictable and on his own rails. You can't really do much better opposite him than this. That jibe about "not really standing for anything at all" needed a response though. But that cut was so fast and so close to the end of the bit and the blade went SO deep.
Hank Roest Martin Short is a huge fan of Jerry's. It was a playful remark made in good fun, not out of meanness or disrespect.
he was a self-proclaimed comedic genius...or was that the stupid frogs?
The Betsy Palmer quip was nuclear! 😅😅🎉
This is epic, why wasn’t I informed about this?
Jerry can't help but laugh at this goof ball.
Rob Kates Funny but that's exactly what my dad said about Jerry Lewis
3:55 Jiminy slips a bit. Martin Short briefly appears obviously relishing working with the legend that is Jerry Lewis. I love it.
The inflection in his voice is so hilarious
BRILLIANT,that's all I have to say,Brilliant.
"How do these stories get started? I don't know because I never heard it."
That was freakin' awesome.
Frikkin' awesome!
Just adored this skit. Except for the phone call from Dixie
two genius entertainers, how lovely, how fantastic! Jerry's face,,his reactions,,priceless.
Two of my favorite people! This killed me
Two comedic geniuses. Hands-down. Zero argument.
Marty's style has to be so much influenced by Jerry Lewis, who used his voice, face, and body! A true tribute by huge talents! 💗
It was. In fact Marry did a bit, as Jerry at the telethon, in the early days of SCTV.
8:52 death stare from Jerry…
"God, he was fat"
When good Americans could just tell a joke
I love Martin Short! LOL
I’ve not seen this. Martin is in another league altogether.
Love this! #RIPJerryLewis
3:50 Wow the only time I've seen Martin break XD
If you watch closely, Jerry Lewis mimics Martin Short's entire manic delivery. I noticed that too. Good observation.
good insight. more so with Lewis than Brooks, though IMO
you see an insult comic so infrequently you can't believe someone has taken the challenge
This was the first time I have seen this Glick episode. This may be the best of,all!
5:06 I could watch an entire series of just Short and Lewis doing the Leyvin bit
This was great! I never saw this. RIP Jerry Lewis. ♡
I really love how Jerry Lewis put up with this crazy man, He was always so serious about being something of credit to the performing arts.
I just found several news ways to irritate people! I can't wait to start new, unelated sentences with, "Whennnnnn?" It's like a magic trick... Jerry almost got whiplash!
Lewis was reduced to making faces here.... ;)
High praise from a master.
This is Martin Short at his peak.
The drop dead look from Jerry before he turned to the audience seemed pretty for realz.
Marty as Jiminy is deadly.

man that was fantastic have to really search to find this..
