The band, playing the “lost” Mullanes tune, sounded so fresh here. Was this CH’s live debut performance? Funny how the band was originally named following the Split Enz members’ tendencies to use their middle names, but Neil didn’t do so with the Enz, but tried to name his new band after his own middle name here!
No wasn't really "lost" at that stage, this was a regular in the crowded house set. Not the debut performance, Crowdies had played 43 shows as Crowded House before this. First Crowded House gig was a show for mostly the Crowdies/Frenz club. May 31st 1986-Middle park Hotel, middle Park (victoria). Both Crowded House & Split Enz performed on that night. This Rockarena show 8 months later.
@@petergreen2534 just curious. The brief history of The Mullanes fascinates me. Based upon interviews I've seen, the band appears very guitar-based, and trying to get away from the synthesizers of day. Why did Craig Hooper leave? Was he forced out, or did he leave for personal reasons?
@@ronavena Craigs great, we all admired him in The Reels too. I dont think it was really a case of being forced out, just slimming the band a bit- the mullanes was still young & fresh & neil still deciding on what direction to take. It was such early days ... seemed to happen rather quickly.

It's on 2 albums if you are after it. AFTERGLOW as well as the Deluxe Edition of the Debut album (2 disc set)

Definitely a single! I'm not sure it would've been suited to an album so heavy on its horn section.
