  • Today I install snow tires/off road tires on my bad weather folding bike. Hopefully this helps me with traction in the snow.

    I'm 75 years old and looking for an easier bike to ride. You videos are helping a lot. Ideally I would like a 24" wheel but there are no bikes for adults in that wheel size with shifting capabilities. Zizzo seems to be the best bike on the market. Zizzo's ability to ride on dirt roads and trails is a big plus.

      @@ibikeunfolded I ride Kenda Crakpot 20 inch tires (low budget) on my every day e bike. After 1600 kilometers the first puncture because of a glass pane. Even expensive Schwalbe tires would have been punctured by that. Sorry for my poor English, but I hope you understand what I want to express.

    I bought some of this on the off season for less than $5 a can. I have not used it yet, but it may work ok under fenders and such. If you have coconut oil, it is a solid below about 76F, so warm it up and brush it on under the fenders and critical places. It works very well on snow shovels. Note though, it may get messy in the summer (melts), you would want to wipe it off.
    DuPont Teflon Snow and Ice Repellant, currently $12.62 on Amazon. I paid $4.23 a can last August, LOL.

    Great video. I just love the quiet snowy city streetscape and your badass trek into the frozen wintery night. I just bought the Liberté also. And the first thing I want to do is put on wider tires. Do you think a 20 inch x 2.25 freestyle BMX tire would be a good do it all option? I saw a Bell brand with a layer of Kevlar which looks like it wouldn't have too much rolling resistance and yet grippier than the tires that come with the Liberté.

    Very nice VLOG, Brian. You're one of the guys actually out in the winter arena, not at your keyboard in a warm home. Question--do you think a 3-speed internally-geared hub would fare well in the winter environment? I was thinking it might be a bit cleaner than the rear cluster and external derailleur. Also, what are your thoughts on the 20-inch Zizzo wheels vs the 16-inch wheels on the Brompton? Stay safe out there. All the best...

    I swap mines to BMX knobbys. Tan walls and the ride quality is definitely better. The stock tires were super bouncy. I weigh 210 so that could play a factor. But I placed thorn guards in the tires and it's been smooth sailing. Currently looking at single speed conversion kits. I'm not really a gear guy

    As i‘m new in the „folding bike club“😂 i‘m not into tyres of that size....
    I have Schwalbe Marathon on my winter bikes-race bike and Birdy-they really do their job.
    But they’re soo heavy....As we know the rotating mass of the wheels is important for speed and acceleration -I definetly need slicks for the summer time!
    So tyres are a good topic.As a messenger you need to change the tyres much quicker-about twice as often as a 28’....So smaller tyres die twice as fast and often they are more expensive...🤔🚴💦 🤙

      I have about 6 schwalbe tires for my Brompton in my closet at home. I keep many on hand so when I need to change a tire they are there. One day I hope I can try out a birdy bike as I hear they are awesome....😃👍

    • @robertferguson3223
      @robertferguson3223 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I changed over to Schwalbe, big apple tires, and I’ve been having problems with pinch flats ever since the rims seem too deep for the tubes that I’m using and it seems like the tube does not seat properly against the wheel. Has anyone else had this problem? I’d really like to run wider tires with these rims. I’m surprised it has not been an issue for anyone else.

  • @KennethWuAU
    @KennethWuAU 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I wonder how the Birdy bike fairs in foul weather. It too has a version with 20" rims, but use disc brakes instead. I think you can throw in Schwalbe Big Apples on them without worrying about the clearances in the V brakes coz it's got none. I wouldn't say the Birdy is a beater coz it costs just as much as a Brompton, but it is a nicer alternative for those who like nice things.

    • @9canadianboy
      @9canadianboy 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought Birdies were about 3x the cost of a Brompton. More in line with a Moulton

    • @KennethWuAU
      @KennethWuAU 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@9canadianboy I wouldn’t say it’s x3. Here in Australia they cost the same for the cheaper models. The higher-end models of the Birdy cost more than standard 6spd Brompton, but about $CAD/AUD 600-800 less than the Brompton Ti super-light. (CAD is close enough to AUD). Benefit with a Birdy is you have more options for off road/ rough terrain. Brompton fold is still unrivalled.

    • @ibikeunfolded
      @ibikeunfolded  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t know that much about birdy, but they seem to have many optional builds which cover a wide range of riding. The moulton however, they can range from two thousand- ten thousand, depending on options and customization. I have tried out a moulton before, maybe I will share that footage soon.
